You’re doin so many killer lessons in this new format, I’m gonna have to actually practice on the regular just to keep up! I LOVE these new song lessons you’re doing! Thank you, Eric! ✌️😌🎸
I had a suspicion deer loved flat 3rd to the 3rd 😂 My daughter and I have been deer obsessed this year. We had 2 babies born a couple months ago in our yard and have been tracking their progress in the mean ole world 🦌 😍
Thanks Eric totally like your style of teaching it’s how I learned many songs have many riffs and styles of strumming the theory you teach is in keeping with my knowledge and playing abilities
Finally a guy y'all can actually learn from!..he gets right to the point while playing the riff w/ tab!... I've been playing over 40 yrs and true to the form of truly loving guitar I'm always watching others to see what they have to share and offer music constantly evolves so there's always someone playing something new ..but I've grown tired of youtube guitar teachers who take up 90% of the video talking theory or basic techniques in an advanced teaching video!..HELLO ...you're teaching advanced but you come across pushing beginner 101 !!..y'all know them type A folk ...Eric doesn't do that ! unless it's a beginner lesson...and he automatically assumes if you're watching his video on writing licks that you already know how to play a lick and read guitar tab..and he loves some really great indie psych blues bands you've most likely never heard of! Great chance to add cool fresh tricks and sounds that haven't been over saturated in the blues world .I'm a blues guitarist and admit we need some freshness in da" blues!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Honestly, best I’ve been to in a while. Loved the intensity and pacing of the set. Really felt like they were committed to putting on a show, which was just great to see! Glad you had fun! And if you’re ever up this way and at a loose end, do holler, be great to grab a beer :)
I also use and love this method of teaching how to get a useful familiarity of the neck. Running scales and such is just busy work that gives MAYBE a 10% return in some basic finger dexterity...that would be better used learning and creating licks.
Pianist here --- I learned a lot. I wonder what kind rhythm bassline I would try to approximate the rhythm / lick exercise you demonstrated? It's good.
Over a Blues with 3 Dominant 7 chords, start with the 3 tritones (3-b7), then 1-3-5-b7, then 1-b3/3-4-b5-5-b7, then add in 6-2. Finally b2-b6-7 can be used in chromatic lines. That’s all 12 notes over each chord.
Hi. Thanks, this was great. Could you please recommend diagonal in phrygian mode. I just watched your diagonal pentatonic lesson. I love the Phrygian but I can’t seem to make it sound musical. I just make it sound like a scale. Is there a trick to make it sound better than a wacky scale? Thank you for all your videos
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thank you. Yea, ive delved into that - Dick Dale surf guitar with Phrygian without the exact phrasing. I was hoping for something different and more concise going diagonally. I stay more vertically using mostly the E strings. But thank you. Besides the point - me being a surfer (not really into surf guitar) - he and I both shared a favorite surf spot; Huntington Beach “cliffs.” I found this out only a couple years ago. And his old house in Newport Beach Ca (bitchen house) at #TheWedge is just about 22 miles from me here in Long Beach. If you havnt seen it check out a great funny weird as hell (check out the hair) RUclips video of them playing together Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughan. THANK YOU
Love your videos, Eric. Could you please do a lesson on how to use a bigsby? I have bought the harmony silhouette bigsby model and love it. However I am new to playing with a bigsby. Unfortunately on RUclips are mostly thech related videos on bigsbys, almost no lessons though… Would be much appreciated!
Wow. Outside the box. Play a sharpe note then a right note. I did that with 2 solos once, a incomplete solo then solo with a resolve. Worked well.. Are there any notes to purchase on this one?
Eric, u must have the healthiest air quality in that room with that jungle behind u. lol great video. Instead of “eat pizza” you could say “Talk to your plants” lol.
Nice, maybe I'll finally make the time to learn the opening riff to Johnny B. Goode. 🙂 Walking from the maj3 to the min3 to the 2nd may not be used, but going the other direction is so prevalent in Bluegrass and Americana. That said, if you did use the descending version in a solo would the audience give you the stinkeye? ;-)
I think animals like music. I live on a lake and play instruments or recorded music pretty constantly throughout the day. Invariably, ducks and loons make their way by. At the very least, they are not put off by it. Also, an abundance of squirrels, chipmunks and land birds.
Doesn't get more chilled than this guy , and remember, in the words of bill and ted , be excellent to each other 🙏
Eric, I’ve been playing guitar since the ‘80’s, and that groove => interval => resolve exercise is one of the smartest I’ve ever heard.
There is not a better guitar channel than this. Another EXCELLENT video Eric!
loved seeing you fully embrace the hollow/semi hollow body guitars!

Thanks so much Andy!
Love ya Eric. Engaging and informative with true talent.
Love my 6120 Brian Setzer.
You've got the most beautiful guitarist collection on RUclips
Wow, Fresh Haugen Fridays! Beautiful guitar!
Asual lessons are always brilliant and sensible from my new guitar hero...Cheers brother Eric and thanks
Great lesson and bonus wildlife cam!
Thank you Eric. So that " other pentatonic shape " I've been using for the last 20 years is the Mixolydian. I now know some theory :)
Thanks Eric - you’re the goat.

3:51 the major third to minor third is used well in L’America by the Doors, but that is the only example i can give

Nice, gonna need to let this one marinate a little, thanks Eric!
Im pretty sure going from major 3rd to flat 3rd is basically anything Queens of the Stonage
I was like... Yeah I'd definitely enjoy doing that, where have I heard it?? 😂🤣
Absolutely awesome have a wonderful weekend Eric 😂😊
Great stuff as always
Haugen fridays are the bomb, yo!🤘🍺
rock n' roll brotherrrr! \m/ enjoyed this lesson!
Great easy course, cheap. Awesome stuff

Very cool bro thank you very much.
What does he mean by chord tone? When he is speaking about practicing at 2:04
Chord tones are the root, 3 and 5 - anything other than those adds a different color!
Thank you
Chet Atkins Gretsch!! Nice!! 😍

My first suggestion would be to work on “miserlou” - that’s a classic Phrygian melody. Should give you some good ideas for phrasing!

The main thing is to be subtle with it - strum a chord and then just add a gentle light shimmer to it!

Thanks, Eric. I'm going to take the 3->b3->2 as a challenge to use in a song. I hear some kind of sludgie metal or Sabbath using it somehow.
Well damn I never thought of going to the second fret on Johnny B Goode
Hey Eric, great lesson! I'm curious, are you still getting along with the Carr Bel Ray?
Yeah! That and my Dusky are the only 2 amps I still have

HAPPY FRIDAY WITH AMERICAN WOMEN TONE
Hello Eric, Crying Lightning - Arctic Monkeys. Perhaps a lesson on why that works
ORANGE!!!!
With the title I wondered, "Is he finally gonna do some Dead?"
Johnny B Goode kind of counts.
I’m so not a dead expert and their catalog is so beyond massive that I leave that to folks like stick method!
