I've got High Functioning Autism and I help out with them. I never liked the fire alarms, but now during the drills in place I get into the hallway and break out my 2 finger whistle and we all seemed to like it better that way, so when I'm there for the drills that's how we start them out 😊
what gets me is how a fire can stay fairly contained within a commercial building but it takes no time burning a residential facility down to the ground...
I'm beyond terrified of fire drills. The sound causes my anxiety to go through the roof. I can handle the flash but the sound scares the life out of me
In 1980-1983 some of the band members at my high school would play in the hallways when there was a fire drill during band period. We got yelled at the few times it happened at that time of the day.
All joking aside, folks: the last and worst thing to do during an emergency building evacuation is to run, or to even talk unnecessarily. Running and talking are the biggest causes of panic and confusion. And we all know what panic can do. Panic kills, often more so than the disaster itself.
My high school had U-MMT's on Horn just like in this video. We had horn/strobes in all of the classrooms and most of the rooms. Thankfully the ones in the classrooms flashed 1 sec before the horns sounded. WICKED loud!!!
Specialty Elev8ors and UEE's by Technicalboy3000 Apparently, I commented this back in middle school, at my high school now, we sometimes have surprise fire drills, so that's scarier, at least you won't have to worry about it ringing.
Shareef Naeem At my school just two months ago I had a false alarm and it was mad scary as heck. I first got kinda scared but then I got so angry at one point I searched every corner of the school building for the guy who pulled the alarm. And yeah I did that instead of eating lunch since the incident happened right before lunch and we were told not to evacuate but never the less people thought it was a fire drill and evacuated anyways
Shareef Naeem Actually you'd be surprised to know that he never got caught still to this day. During lunch my love interest and I searched EVERY CORNER of the building to find him and had ZERO LUCK
I had a fire drill today and it was the first one of the year. The funny thing is that it didn't sound like a fire alarm at all it sounded more like a long telephone ring. But for a person who is autistic like me the fire alarm is one of the things that make me overreact, even though our school fire alarm wasn't that loud I still shook.
Just comes to show how loud Spectralert is- even outside. They were pretty far away. I have those in my class, which is a portable trailer. Since the insulation is so bad, EVERYONE has to cover their ears.
At my school, the fire alarm I way louder. It makes 3 different sounds. But you have to go in certain areas hear those sounds of the alarm. When the alarm goes off, people start blasting out of their classrooms and run out to hallway. It's crazy and jam packed on hallway when it comes to fire drills.
At my first elementary school I remember we had Wheelock RSS Strobes, Some Simplex 4050s set on continuous horn and one Wheelock AS in the basement, also set to continuous horn. Then at my next ES we had SpectrAlerts in the modules set on code 3 "screamer," as I call it. (The factory default). In the building we had Wheelock MTs and remote strobes with some voice evac message I can't find anywhere else. At my MS: MTs with voice evac and the slow whoop. I don't remember HS or college.
We actually have those alarms in the college dorms I'm staying in this year. I think they sound exactly like these. Not sure I haven't been inside with one yet but people tend to set them off burning food and/or thinking they're funny
lcoster 1203 When I was a freshman in college, people do the same thing but the fire alarm sounds different. I mean it’s the same alarm but different sound.
When I realized that all smoke detectors and fire alarms did Code 3 It stopped being scary. People don't realize what Fire is actually capable of doing. Practice Fire Drills need to happen at home. Set off a smoke detector and practice what you would do in an emergency.
@reploid123 You are suppose to walk when evacuating a building to avoid falling. Plus 9 times out of 10 a fire occurs in a commercial building it barely spreads in the building. Even electrical fires.
@robomojo100 I agree. I like a more consistent sound, as well. Back in my school days in California, all of the bells and buzzers rang or buzzed in sync. The signal for fire drills was an intermittent march of usually 12 short rings/buzzes followed by a ten second pause, and then the pattern repeated, for a total of anywhere from 24 to 120 rings.
The fire alarms at my old school were so loud and annoying. They never told us when a fire drill will happen and we had like 10 drills every year. My new school is like the complete opposite. The alarms aren't as annoying, they tell us when it'll happen and we only have them 4 times a year.
My Modular school has the indoor fire alarms. No fire alarms outside! You could hear the fire alarms outside at my Modular school. It's loud inside but quiet outdoors. It's loud in the halls though.
Lol in england whats good is my classroom is right next to a fire exit, all you need to do is go through a door and out another, boom boom your safe, the rest are running down the stairs and the teachers are saying " Stop running!"
At My High School one at Athens Drive Magnet High School, I have a Simplex Truealert Horn Strobe, Wheelock Horn Strobe and a Simplex T Bar and these Fire Alarms at my High School making me go deaf.
Hmmm, a bit difficult to condense that all down to 500 characters ... but to be clear, running or proceeding in a manner that makes you look like you're panicked is not a good thing. One of the best thigns you can do is act in a calm, controlled manner - as these guys have done. Furthermore, congestion at exists is BAD in a fire as it prevents controlled exit, causing panic, and potentially making the situation more dangerous, particularly if people are nearby that are in more immediate danger.
My school is also calmer than this video. We always walk to back doors when in class to the field or to the bus area when a false fire drill happens at the cafeteria
I know... We have those fire alarms aswell. Hehe, one time we had a sub and during a fire drill she was saying remain calm, but then she ran down the stairs... Haha.
@logster1203 It's not silly, my friend. I used to be terrified of them too when I was a kid. For me, anything that has to do with fire scares me. Even to this day (I'm 48), the fire drills we have at work make me a bit nervous -- and I'm a floor warden for my company's office safety team.
In my high school they don't tell us but i still know when we are going to have one first some kids go outside before it goes off then there is a flash on the alarm and the funny thing about this alarm it that i have the same one
Are you folks serious?? You actually RUN to the exit in a fire drill? That is SO DANGEROUS! Do you want to get TRAMPLED? We were always ordered to WALK in a quick, but orderly fashion to the nearest exit. I think the people who are saying they run are pulling our chain. No responsible school administrator would allow that.
jeebus rice! really? they put the damn alarm outside too? dude passing bystanders don't go "uhh yea i would love to be in a fire drill like i was 5 years ago uh huh....
@SuperLeft4deadman Csaually walking is probably no as bad as it sounds in this case. It's fairly clear that, even with alarms sounding, they're unlikely to be in immediate danger as there's no smoke or flame. So there is no need to panic, or give the impression of panic. Furthermore, sometimes a delayed arrival at the exists can be a good thing, reduces congestion caused by everyone arriving at once which again ocan contribute to panic and block exit by those who may be at more immediate risk.
no, your school is just strict xD. in ours we giggle and laugh, and also complain. the alarms are like 4 ft from the ground so they're right in our ears
You have never seen one at the MI5 building in london where I work then ! The alarm goes off, the Co2 system warning goes off, but nobody is allowed to leave their desk until they have personally had a phone call instructing them to do so, and then you have to log everything out, encrypt anything before calmly my proceeding to the exit you were told to on the phone.
When I first saw this video I was like, What the...? What fire alarm is that? I thought it sounded like a true alert, but instead, Siemmen UMMT. And when you were outside Spectrealert.
When I was in my School they had EST integrity Commander 3 Commander 2 and commander 1 and they had EST ceiling integrity and in my middle school we have commanded 3 and commander one The EST and the commanders they were set on code 3 in my middle school we don't know yet because we had a fire drill
Now we had a drill today during 5th period and that's what I had for 5th period and waiting for the other people to finish the test then the fire alarm went off and it felt liked my ear was bleeding even after going through the fire drill 100 times the fire alarm still seem loud to me and we had to do another one because of the 8th graders not following fire drill exception.
In my school, we practice tornado drills, on one day, we had a real tornado and we had to do that stupid drill for 1 HOUR! At least we missed Gym and part of reading class. It happened in April 3. Look up tornadoes in Dallas April 3
At my school, we have Gentex alarms that do 3 beeping tones, pause for about 1.5 seconds, and then repeat. I f*cking hate them! No matter how hard you plug your ears, they still get to you. luckily, once, you are outside, the alarm is a medium loud humming noise.
I live in canada, so the alarms sound like a recess bell.
Yes we have lots of them, but we also have lots of horn strobes as well, very much the similar to the US.
That’s the same fire alarm and sound from the Elementary School I go to when I was younger
I've got High Functioning Autism and I help out with them. I never liked the fire alarms, but now during the drills in place I get into the hallway and break out my 2 finger whistle and we all seemed to like it better that way, so when I'm there for the drills that's how we start them out 😊

It’s nice how you just have a strobe in that classroom
My high school had U-MMT's on Horn just like in this video. We had horn/strobes in all of the classrooms and most of the rooms. Thankfully the ones in the classrooms flashed 1 sec before the horns sounded. WICKED loud!!!
our school alarms are the most obnoxious, starling sounds in the world
my school's got the loudest fire alarms of any school in NYC
calmest fire drill i've seen!
Wow. Students actually WALKING rather than running.
Every time there's a fire drill at my school, i always block my ears a few minutes before it rings
Same here I block my ears the minute I hear an announcement since my school always does announcements 10 mins in advance

That's one loud fire alarm.
Tell me about it, I go to that same school, and I have a Fire Drill yesterday and boy it was LOUD!
We actually have those alarms in the college dorms I'm staying in this year. I think they sound exactly like these. Not sure I haven't been inside with one yet but people tend to set them off burning food and/or thinking they're funny

Cool fire alarm. I love the strobe light. It sounds really loud!
Strobes don't make sounds
We also had a fire drill on Thursday. It was LOUD.

9 people pulled a fire alarm.
@logster1203 me too until the initial shock wears off. That's what gets me all the time.
that was the CALMEST fire drill i've seen
Yeah in my school everyone would be freaking out and running

I get to go outside before the alarms go off
I have an adult daughter with autism who is obsessed with fire drills. she just found this video and loves it. (seriously)
JEEZ
dddaaannnggg
sounds like either a Truealert or a Simens UMM-T indoor, and i agree about the SpectrAlerts outside
our alarm is "in the interest's of safety please leave the building via the nearest available exit" in english and welsh on a loop
My elementary school has those fire alarms
never heard those fire alarms before
Every time I have fire drills, they always scare me. And I have this alarm in my college dorm, but it sounds way louder like a girl.
Jeffrey Fryar, fire drills are my worst nightmare
Super Mario That’s what I’m saying.
Those are the same horn/strobes that replaced the old Simplex 4040's in my old High School.
I jump at The F***n fire alarms when thay go off in school.
My Modular school has the indoor fire alarms. No fire alarms outside! You could hear the fire alarms outside at my Modular school. It's loud inside but quiet outdoors. It's loud in the halls though.

Siemmens UMMTs in temporal/code-3 on the inside and SpectrAlert classic horn/strobes on the outside.
My school have the same fire alarms!
I LOVE FIRE DRILLS.
I HATE FIRE DRILLS.
I know... We have those fire alarms aswell. Hehe, one time we had a sub and during a fire drill she was saying remain calm, but then she ran down the stairs... Haha.

Everyone be quiet while the fire alarm is going off

Our Fire Alarms sound like fuckin Air Raid Sirens they're so loud and i get to sit under it in 2 of my classes.

Siemens U-MMT for indoors and SpectrAlerts for outdoors both in Code 3.
Those aren't U-MMTs. U-MMTs are lower pitched.
So the indoor alarms must be U-MHUs.@@212Elevators

In soviet russia the alarms set you off!
