Hacking our Mazda RX8 ECUs! - OpenVehicleDiag 2.0 demo

  • This is a quick demo of some of OpenVehicleDiag's brand new features which can be used to reverse engineer our Mazda RX8 ECUs to work out how they work! OpenVehicleDiag is designed to be a general tool, but I am using it on the RX8 ECUs in this video.

    1 minute in the video and i'm already hooked and subscribed. Had an RX8, fell in love, had to sell it, plan to buy one in the future! Definately want to customise it!

    On the GitHub for this you mention "thus allowing the ability for you to reprogram ECU’s without the need for a special dealer-only tool." Does that mean one could disable the triggers that would force an RX8 to go into limp mode. Would be a handy feature if swapping a Renesis into an NB chassis, since I could throw away a bunch of things that I wouldn't be able to integrate / don't need.

    New Subscriber !. Many thanks for your help with the SAAB today and looking into our Trionic 5 conversion. The Noid lights arrive today so i will be able to visually see if the injectors are firing.

      @@jacobporter4623 I run The SAAB Clinic and have several SAAB's. DSG's have been done. Adam Sindry of the "My boosted life" channel has fitted DSG's to the back of a B234 engine. Paul@ The Saab Clinic Co UK

      This has been fixed and the car is now running. The issue was me !. Trionic 5 uses -ve switched outputs on all its channels. Unlike the Bosch LH that it replaced where everything is +ve switched. So made a few changes to the Ignition and Fuel relays and shes running like a champ.

    Very interesting. , I'm currently considering trying to learn how to resync volvo ecu & cem modules , there are many programs that have been made over years that can do it. , I just want to see how it does it and can I do it with limited knowledge, the hardware your using gives me hope.

    hi mate any chance you will be working on a way to reverse engineer the cluster to be able to program it such as vin numbers, odometer reading and manual or auto? I was working on a Australian GM holden VE cluster for a while but couldn't find a way to write code to send on the bus to get passed the security access section of programming so dead in the water.
    what I am still confused about is how do you get the ecu to tell you were it stored the memory identifiers for info you want to program such as vin numbers, auto and manual, TPS, settings then how do you issue a command to change the identifiers

    I have a 2008 RX8 that we did an engine/trans swap from an older RX8 and even with the ecu from the engine/trans car the immobilzer will not allow us to start the vehicle. Can you program the ecu to work with this set up and what would you need me to send so you can program the engine/trans ecu to work with my 2008 RX8.

    Iv a PCM fault can’t get rid of if P0610 Says Iv got to send it away

    Rx8 immo light on. Customer tried to pull away and it stalled. No start after or crank. Fuse blown and new fuse blows instantly 15a for ecu. Obd scan and basically no instrument, no abs, no ecu, no power steering. Fuse that blows is 5 down from the back. A blue 15a. Any ideas

      @@kensmechanicalaffair turned out to be weird. I fixed the car. Only that fuse blowing stopped blowing. Car parked and not moving yet it stopped blowing. Then with new coils and bled fuel system it started.
