The looks on your faces when you realize who Keyser Soze was is why I watch The Usual Suspect reactions. This movie is perfect.
I still remember the first time I saw this movie. My friend was so excited to show it to me, but when the movie opened, I turned to him and asked, “Is that Kevin Spacey? It sounds like Kevin Spacey. Is Kevin Spacey the bad guy?” He stared at me for a few seconds and said, “I should just turn this off right now.” He was crushed. 😂
NGL, I just fast forwarded to the end on this one just for that.
We knew the open mouthed shock was coming
Has anyone ever watched “the Game” with Michael Douglas? Great 🍿 movie. You have to check this out. Mind games.
I know! Especially Jay. That’s how I looked the first time I saw this.
I've had a pint with Kobayashi...
RIP Pete Postlethwaite, a true gentleman and a GREAT actor (I saw him as MacBeth in Bristol)
He just wandered into my local pub at lunch time and we got chatting, really happy memory x
His performance in In the Name of the Farther breaks my heart everytime. Awsome actor.
Loved him in Last Of The Mohicans. He was fantastic in every role I’ve seen him in.
Yeah a really great actor of the old school, proper stage chops.
First discovered him in ‘In the Name of the Father’ has been a favourite of mine ever since RIP
I bet he was spectacular in Macbeth.
When you watch this movie a second time you can see Kevin spacy thinking up his story, and looking at the coffee cup and stuff. He played it so well you don't catch it the first time, but definitely do the second time. Super subtle and brilliant performance. It's why he won the academy award for thus movie.
I could watch the switch over from Verbal to Keyser every day and not get sick of it. Changing the walk, stretching out his hand so good! The moment when they pan up to his face and he is an entirely different person, not only physically but everything, is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.
I swear, watching people experience. This twist, for the first time will never get old! One of the best all-time twist in cinematic history in my humble opinion.
You are so right!! My mom turned me on to this movie and it is still one of my favorites!
Verbil is Kayser Soze, Bruce Willis was dead the whole time, and Snape's memories... Those three reveals are almost always Reaction Video gold mines.
@@jamesvonborckeRollo Tomasi beats them all imo.
The only other movie with a worthy ending twist is the end of The Boondock Saints. But this one is the wildest!
So funny to watch Amber so excited as she puts the pieces together, while Jay just sits there with a stunned look on his face. 😆
Leave homeboy alone! 🤣
@@Tehui1974 No diss. They're both legit ways to experience the reveal!
She talks to him like he doesn't understand and she has to explain the movie to him. Sorry but she is annoying
Leave home girl alone.
@@MrJoselva Like you?
I worked on a film set in Montana in 2021, the lead actor was Gabriel Byrne, the guy who played Keaton. I drove him into town and when I dropped him off at his house, I said to him, "I almost called u Keyser Soze earlier". He laughed and from that day on he wanted me to drive him to set everyday. He's a super nice man.
Now that's a very cool story, just "WOOOW"
That’s great! There’s an outtake of Byrne shouting, “THERE IS SEYSER COSY!”
You tell this same story on every usual suspect reaction video. You must love the actor.
He was a regular attendant to the Film Fleah and Arts Festival in my hometown of Galway. Came to eat in the restaurant I worked at in the nineties so Mt claim to fame is that I cooked for Gabriel Byrne and his then wife Ellen Barkin. I believe they were filming Into the West at the time.
@@anthonydinsdale8783 Brilliant "Just AWESOME" I remember the first film I saw him was in the Bridget Fonda film called "Assassin" aka La Femme Nikita which I saw in the theatre in 1993 in Brisbane, Australia.
The cop interrogating Verbal, telling him: "I'm smarter than you..."
How hard to Verbal have to work to keep from smirking at that?
Cop: I'm smarter.
Verbal: Hold my coffee.
"The Usual Suspects" if you remember CASABLANCA , you know where the title comes from
"Round up the usual suspects"
One of the greatest twist endings in a movie, Ever!
Everrrrrrr😂
Absolutely. Too bad they seldomly make movies like this anymore .
@CrispyChipcs007 👏👏👏
One of my favorite films in my DVD library. More twists than a pretzel factory.
That nothing in the movie really happened? I find it kind of lame, but I already had it spoiled for me before watching the film.
I haven't watched the reaction yet. I wanted to tell you guys. That watching you and the relationship that you have makes my heart happy. We need more relationships like yours to show the younger generation what a healthy loving relationship looks like.
They , esp Jay, are clueless
Exactly how I feel ❤ I love these two, they’re like my RUclips parents.
STOP...... we dont know any off these people on youtube aND WE DONT know what their relationship is from watching a few videos. YUou can like the content but stop pretending you know these youtubers based on what they show us on these videos..... PLENTY! of " good" youtube people ended up torturing their kids or murdering their spouses and yet people still think they KNOW these people.... watch the content and move on. Stop acting like youtubers are morally good/innocent people..... they are just people.....
@@grandpu659calm down buddy, they’re just leaving a thoughtful comment not that deep
Keyser Söze!!!!
I loved how you got so excited about Keaton being Keyser Soze, because I knew for certain then, that your reaction to the final conclusion would be such a treat. And boy, you didn't disappoint! 😊
Excellent choice guys, and if you like Kevin Spacey, mysteries, and an all star cast, your next stop should be "L.A. Confidential." A definite must see!
LA Confidential and Chinatown make a great double bill.
Oh yes! LA Confidential is a must review
Awesome movie
Seconded.
Another excellent choice ! Great call.
"Round up the usual suspects" is a line from Casablanca, where the Prefect didn't care whether they got the right person, but they had to show they got "someone" to let the Germans know they were doing their job.
Another favorite.
And this is why "Keyser Soze" has entered the public domain as a saying. Such a brilliant movie.
A fence is a person who buys and sells stolen goods for a profit.
I love this movie. It’s a great “unreliable narrator” movie. The perspective you’re getting isn’t true which misleads you.
Possibly the greatest unreliable narrator in film. Superb writing, performance… everything. Such a brilliant film.
Yes and yes. Mid 90s movie it was really great movie.
Another wonderful example of this in film - Memento.
This and Joker are two of the best unreliable narrator films.
@@DementedDaisy
Don't forget Fight Club.
Midnight in the garden of good and evil is another great one. Kevin Spacey was so great before his troubles.
"Midnight in the garden of good and evil" is such a great movie. The last time I checked there weren't any reactions to it on YT.
No question, and that was also one of the "Adult" John Cussack's better performances.
K-Pax Spacey a legend.
Ending right up there with “the Sixth Sense”.
Probably better.
Funny isn't that the Wahlberg that was in the bathroom in the sixth sense?
@@deniseg812 Yeah, the detective on Bluebloods... Danny Reagan. Donny Wahlberg, I think?
Best twist in movie history! Watching your reaction is the closest you can get to seeing it for the first time again. BTW, Spacey won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for this role and the movie won for best original screenplay.
"The devil's greatest trick..." One of my favorite movie quotes. Great movie, mostly because of the ending. Glad you enjoyed it.
Your faces at the end…I remember having to pick my jaw up off the floor the first time I saw this movie. Now go back to the beginning and look at Kevin Spacey’s face as he’s sitting in the detective’s office waiting for him to come in. You’ll be like how did I miss that?
The Oscar for original screenplay was given to this movie and it's so obvious as to why
Seeing a criminal mastermind hide in plain sight like that and then literally get away with his deeds was genius when first seen
No one will ever top this
It's been a minute since you both have been THIS shocked by how a movie ends
And that was when you reacted to Andy Dufresne escaping and disappearing in the Shawshank Redemption almost 18 months ago
Your wide eyes, your mouths agape, your brains trying to do mental gymnastics, it's so entertaining and I love it!
In fact, the ending was the ONLY thing I wanted to see in this video because it's so famous for its reveal
It's up there with their reaction to The Sixth Sense.
Giancarlo Esposito played the detective in the hospital with the snitch/victim. Esposito's future parts include Gus Fring (Breaking Bad), Mandalorian and several other great performances!
He was also a random guy in jail with Dan Ackroyd in Trading Places.
And “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
And Buggin out in do the right thing
Sidney Glass/Mirror in 'Once Upon a Time '
You'll love to watch KEVIN SPACEY + SAMUEL JACKSON in the "THE NEGOTIATOR". A well-written and tense movie, with major twists!!
Hockney is Kevin Pollack. You'll know him from "A Few Good Men" and "Grumpy Old Men"
Not to mention one of the best celebrity impersonators of all times. Walken, Rickles, Falk, Arkin and on and on
Also, as the "clean" front man in Casino.
Kevin spacy won his 1st Oscar for this. Also my favorite crime drama of all time Heat was made in the same year. It's a great movie to react to with Al Pacino & Robert De Niro
Before they do Heat they should know that EVERY character in that movie, and most of the story, is actually TRUE, and based on REAL people. So few people know that about Heat!
@@elcorado83 yeah there is some truth to it. Some parts are fiction but most of the characters are based off real people Micheal Mann knew about
This movie came out at almost exactly the same time as SEVEN. Two powerful performances from him, then he went down the tubes with sexual assults and is now pretty much blacklisted...😢
I watched Se7en a couple of days after the Usual Suspects. Imagine my shock when I realised the killer was Kaiser Soze 😅
Every time you watch this, you see more things you missed.
Now ya'll need to check out "The Game" with Michael Douglas.
Absolutely! a Real Mind F***!
That movie wore me out. Felt like I ran a marathon just watching it.
On the edge of my seat 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
The game is super dope. Great movie.
My thoughts on where the ending was going were COMPLETELY off🤔
"The Negotiator" with Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson, and "L.A. Confidential" with Spacey, Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger. Both are great murder mysteries! Stay safe you two.🙂❤
5:03 - This actor here is living legend, Giancarlo Esposito. He starred as the infamous "Gus Fring" in one of the best TV crime dramas ever made, "Breaking Bad" (2009 - 2011); and he also played character Moff Gideon in the Star Wars TV series, "The Mandalorian". He's also in many great films that I KNOW you two will enjoy very much, such as: "Fresh" ('94), "Do The Right Thing" ('89), "Nothing to Lose" ('97), "King of New York" ('90).
A fence is basically like a middle man. You give him the goods. He knows the people to buy and sell to.
Amber....with that almost Fbomb, lmao!!! I'm dead..Jay was still processing the ending several minutes later...great reaction!! You two would really enjoy Fight Club and Memento. Later RSR, love you!!
Oh yeah, I love Memento and already mentioned that myself, but Fight Club too is a great example of the unreliable narrator. Plus it features an actor they're already a fan of a a result of that actor's other career. "His name is Robert Paulson."
You only can watch this movie once and get that "GTFO" moment at the end...but man, is it a mind blowing moment that so few movies pull off.
I was slack jawed when I first saw that ending....great movie.
Spacey is great in "Beyond The Sea" , he plays the legendary Bobby Darin.
For 'First-time Watching', this is my favourite film of all time, a masterpiece! And the anticipation of seeing your reaction to the reveal put a smile on my face throughout the whole thing! Thanks!
This is one of my favourite films of all time. It's well acted, and that twist! I've been quoting this movie to follow buffs and people for years. The sequence where Kujan realises everything is one of my favourite montages of all time, and I can quote that word for word.
First film I watched with an unreliable narrator. I walked into the middle of it and my roommate rewound it. Nicest thing he ever did.
Oh, yes, this you definitely must see, from the jump.
I love it when people don't see the ending coming.
"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn't exist." best ending line in a movie ever
They're laughing during the lineup because Del Toro kept farting and would NOT stop. And Stephen Baldwin totally improved him saying that line like that which is another reason none of them could keep a straight face during the lineup scene.
The director was getting pissed because the guys kept laughing when the scene was supposed to be played straight. Looking at the dailies, he realized that it made the scene much better and kept it all in.
And if we're talking real life things in the movie, its worth mentioning that when Stephen Baldwin's character got hit near the eye with a lit cigarette.... he wasnt expecting it! It was real improvisation from the other actor (who obviously didnt mean to hit him near the eye with it). So his shock and anger in the film is real too!
@@elcorado83 Heh yeah it was a mistake (as you said), not improv. He felt really bad about it!
Benicio Del Toro knew his character died early, so he came up with the crazy mumbling accent so he would be remembered.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 Which, tbh, doesnt say much for him as its a cheap hacky actor trick-and he had already tried it in another film! Swimming With Sharks, but the director refused to let him do the accent!
One thing I love is everyone gets hung up on what Keyser looked like in the origin story that Verbal is telling, when in reality everything between the Taxi Service to the Harbor is a story in one form or another.
That's what I wondered-how do we know there even was a Keyser Soze? Sure, Spacey was the mastermind, okay-but we dont have any reason to think he was the big bad mythical creature we are told about "keyser soze"...all we can really know is he is just a very smart genius criminal who masterminded it all.
@@elcorado83 I thought about that, that they could be just using the legend or that someone else was Söze. However that burned survivor from the ship saw him and based on his description they had a sketch done.
On the other hand we can't know how that man was positive that this was indeed Söze - considering there was another guy (Arturo Marques) who was supposed to be the only one that could identify him. So how could the hungarian gangster recognize him too then? Unless agent Cujan is wrong and this wasn't the only person who could identify him. I am getting a headache trying to figure it out.
The one thing you'd have to keep in mind - though it's easy to get distracted from - is that Verbal is the only one that we know for sure has survived. And the story he tells in entirely from his perspective, so some, all, or none of what we "see" in the flashbacks may have actually happened.
I had gotten into comics at the age of 7 in 1982, they taught me how to tell a story with still pictures. I had seen this film when I was in college and this film taught me how to tell a story in film. Such a great comic book style story film.
I've got and love this movie. But what's even better is seeing genuine reactions to this great piece of work! Specially hearing the Rob Squad sorting out and discussing the plot. And we know ' No that's not it ' And Thank You both for the big smile you have given me for every time I remember when you found out Les Grossman was Tom Cruise... just how the hell did you not clock that. Great Channel and Cheer's. 🇬🇧
Incredible reaction guys! Your faces at the end were amazing.
Back when it came out we all reacted like that and then kept the Keyser Soze secret. It was such an iconic cultural moment and so cool to be a part of. I'm just really thankful the internet didn't exist back then😂
This movie blew my mind. Love the cast. Watched it over a dozen times through out the years.
Kevin Spacey in “Pay It Forward”..... 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
I love watching reactions to this particular movie.
Pretty much everyone reacts the same during the last scene, the moment of the big reveal.
This movie is in my top ten all time favourites because of that scene.
It's how movies should be made.
I love the way Rob took his headphones off at the end of the movie. He was like my mind is blown and I’m done.
Heat (1995) is another really good one. It's a crime movie with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, both of them from The Godfather. In this, one's a cop, one's a bank robber. They only interact a couple of times in the movie and they are epic moments.
Another great Kevin Spacey movie is "American Beauty". Also, another great one is "The Negotiator" (which also stars Samuel L. Jackson). 🙂
The best plot ever written.
Kevin Spacey.... American Beauty. You gotta see this one
One of my favorite Crime/Drama/Mysteries is 'Primal Fear.' It stars Richard Gere and Edward Norton. I think both of you would really enjoy it.
Agreed. ….and the ending. 😳
Eww Kevin Spacey. Predator.
The movie Primal Fear is one of those films , that is just as good as the book that it was adapted from. Edward Norton was full on creepy as Aaron Stampler. Before i saw this film i wasnt a fan of Richard Gere , but boy his performance as Martin Vail was magnificent
Yes Primal Fear is another fantastic movie!!! ❤❤❤
Don't forget about Presumed Innocent with Harrison Ford & Bonnie Bedelia (1990). A crime drama, courtroom thriller with a twisted ending.
Kevin Pollak plays Hockney, he is also in "A Few Good Men" as Weinberg. He does about 20 impressions, does a great Christopher Walken. He has done many movies as a supporting role.
I remember seeing this in the theater. When the reveal happened, the theater went QUIET. No more snacking on popcorn. No more sipping soda. Just stunned silence.
From the outset the clues that Verbal was Keyser were all there. He was the only one not arrested (he walked into the line up), The immunity (well spotted), and Keyser was one step ahead of the group at all times (inside information?), he was the only survivor of a suicide mission? and other more subtle clues (including visual clues within the film). Best to leave you to find them all with multiple watches. I often wonder how hard it would be to be undercover within the group as a cripple, without breaking cover. It was fun to watch you going through the emotions, especially in the reveal. I remember my first viewing feeling conflicted by the story being told. At one point telling myself that Verbal was Keyser and then dismissing it. I have watched this many times since then. The writing is a great piece of misdirection in that the clues are all there. The directing and editing are masterful, and the acting superb. The reveal on a par with "The Sixth Sense", this film is among my favorites for pure story telling. A joy to watch you watching then. Hoping you and yours are, and remain very well.
If there was ever a movie to watch again to see all the clues it's this one.
Since you like fantasy a younger Gabriel Byrne played Uther Pendragon in the best rendition of the tale of King Arthur (Excalibur) also with a young Helen Mirran, Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart (who looks immortally the same)
Excalibur (1981) is a must see in my book. Amazing cast! Nicol Williamson as Merlin is fascinating and nearly steals the show like Val Kilmer did in Tombstone.
Gabriel Byrne was brilliant as "The Devil " in End Of Days
This is one of my favourite films ever, I still remember the 1st time I watched this and the end blew me away!! Great storytelling, and acting. When you find out the ending it makes you want to rewatch over n over. Loved your reaction at the end lol ...... and like that, he's gone.
I have watched this movie with people who have never seen it before. The reaction is always fun to watch!
Kevin Spacey’s co-star in “L.A. Confidential,” Guy Pearce, starred in a film called “Memento” which also has an insane plot twist like this one.
Memento is one of my all time favorites. Fantastic
An absolutely fabulous caste of some of the best character actors of their generation. Give them a top notch script and witty dialogue and you have a movie for the generations. People will still watch this decades from now, along with The Maltese Falcon as examples of great casting. ✌️
Of course, this was great!! Another great one, with Kevin Spacey, is " American Beauty"...won best actor award.
Excellent film with a brilliant ending. I enjoyed watching Amber and Jordan piecing it together and becoming completely flabbergasted once it all was revealed. This was my favorite movie reaction.
Jay’s face at the end was the best, trying to replay the whole movie back in your head to piece it all together again. This movie ranks up there with top twists in a movie. Glad you enjoyed it.
Stephen Baldwin is youngest Baldwin brothers.👍🏼
I love Verbel / Kaizer telling his own origin story. HA!
Mr.Holland's Opus is a movie about teachers and the impact teachers have on people's lives. Stars Richard Dreyfus (Jaws) and Olympia Dukakis ( Steel Magnolias). You will love it. Love you guys, keep up the good work.
I couldn't wait until you both got to the very end. This movie still holds up today.
Fun Fact: the entire premise of this movie was inspired by a line in the final scene in Casablanca…
“Major Straße has been shot. Round up the usual suspects!”
Strasser, not Street. 😄But yeah, fun fact. 😊
I had the same reaction Rob had when I first saw this movie.
This was one of the best movies!! Best plot twist!!!🤯🤯
The Usual Suspects is a direct reference to Casablanca. “Round up the usual suspects…” Didn’t matter whether they were guilty or not, when there was a crime, the authorities brought in the people they wanted to frame.
I Love The Point of the One to Tell Us All the Backstory is Called Verbal... Nice Touch...
One of the best movie twists ever! So glad you both watched it.
The truly long game was everyone having heard of Keyser Soze when they first meet Kobayashi. Seeds for that must have been planted YEARS prior to these events.
Pro tip, he told the cop, who kaiser soze was, when talking about his old days in turkey. Explaining who kaiser soze was. He tells him some info no one could know. He tells the cop, he's supposed to be half German half Hungarian. It's in his name. Kaiser is German for leader or God. Soze is Hungarian for the same thing. He was also in the film American beauty, and Horrible bosses 1 and 2, with Jennifer Anniston! But in this movie here, it doesn't matter how much of his story is true, or fake. Because he's telling the whole thing, from his point of view, which is never a complete picture full truth anyway. He just made up things, he wanted to.
You are basically correct except for the meaning of his name. Kaiser means "emperor" in german and söze means "his word" in hungarian. So I guess he wanted it to mean something like "emperor of his words". Kint's nickname is "verbal" which means "relating to or in the form of words".
I assume by choosing this moniker "the Emperor of his words" he sees himself as the Father of lies, the Master of deception - the devil. Which connects perfectly to him talking about the devil's greatest trick, or how do you shoot the devil, calling Söze the devil.
And just like that, he's gone.
The Usual Suspects is consistently in my Top 10 movie list.
Even knowing the twist ending, the characters and acting leading up to it are worth numerous rewatching.
"American Beauty" was another great Kevin Spacey movie 1999
When they opened up the briefcase with their names, it goes in order of deaths from first to last.
More mystery/crime/thrillers to check out: LA Confidential
Memento
Primal Fear
A "fence" in criminal slang is someone who buys stolen goods from thieves because he has ways to sell them on legitimately. Naturally, he takes a margin between what he pays for the good and what he sells them for. It can also be used as a verb, e.g. "Fred's going to fence the stuff for us".
Finally, a movie with real suspense.
I thought I'd seen this but was shocked at the ending like you both were really enjoyed it guys 😊❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
And speaking of movies you have to watch twice, SHUTTER ISLAND should be very high on your list.
Oh yes! Stellar recommendation! They love mysteries. Following the clues.
American Beauty and LA Confidential are two more great Kevin Spacey movies.
I met Kevin Pollak eight years ago. We talked a while, and he told me some fun stories from the making of this movie, which is one of my all time favorites. He even signed my copy of the Usual Suspects script, with a pen that Tom Cruise gave him on the set of A Few Good Men. 😆 Great comedian, great character actor, and just a really cool guy.
LUV the twist ending. You never see it coming.
I can't tell you how quickly I hit that play button when this one popped up. Amber's laughter at 'Tropic Thunder' made my night a few days ago - this reaction just made my week!
I was so here for the looks on their faces at the end! This is a legendary, classic plot twist movie. I had that same look on my face when I watched it, ands I usually predict the outcome of almost every movie I watch in the first 5 to 10 minutes.
If you like great movies with a twist you'll love The Prestige. It's a must watch with an A-List cast.
One of the best twists ever.
I had to laugh so hard, Jay looked like a freeze frame at the reveal and Amber just kept talking.
This movie is why Spacey is the goat! He made us believe his false character was not his true character. He played 2 characters experiencing 2 totally different realities and we believed them both!!!
Kevin spacey played the role amazingly. Please please 🙏 watch him in AMERICAN BEAUTY !
You'll love it..thanks for this great reaction as usual ❤
Don't know if you guys are aware of this, but the whole "Kobayashi" mystery character (who works for Keyzer Söze) is actually a Star Trek reference which means "A No Win Scenario". Hence, the usual suspect guys were screwed the whole time, they just didn't know it. They were inevitably gonna lose. In detail, the "Kobayashi Maru" was a battle simulation exam in Starfleet Academy which was purposefully designed to be unwinnable. The only one who ever passed that test was Captain Kirk, and only because he cheated by reprogramming the simulation that he could win the battle, lol.
FENSTER, PLAYED BY BENICIO DEL TORO, HE SPOKE WEIRD AND DID HIS LOOK FOR AUDITION...GOT THE PART!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
There are quite a few clues that thrown in throughout the movie. When Kujan throws Verbal to the ground, Verbal says "I did kill Keaton" before correcting himself and saying "I saw Keaton get killed".
Kevin Spacey is phenomenal! Three movies that are MUST watch with him are L.A. Confidential (another suspense movie with an amazing cast), Glengarry Glenn Ross and American Beauty
Saw this opening night when it first came out. I can still remember the audience gasp when Verbal started walking straight. At the end when the credits started rolling the whole theater was clapping. I've never seen a movie that had such a response like that.
