I've both always loved, and kinda hated, Mimir's reaction to Kratos killing Heimdall. We spent literally 40 minutes discussing this decision, Freya was absolutely on board, yet Mimir still tries to stop him WHILST he's choking the man out? The big I love is Mimir acting like Kratos is becoming a monster again, when this is probably the tamest death in the series. Put this next to Poseidon's death.
I think Poseidon was really when Kratos started getting brutal. Ares before was a simple blade through the chest, Athena was also a Blade through the chest/stomach. Poseidon though got a whole ass beatdown just for him... seeing him try to run away only to get pulled back in for more was terrifying to say the least.
It's not about Kratos killing Heimdall, it's about him submitting to rage. Perhaps it could be executed a bit better, like Kratos could disfigure Heimdall's face a few more times and Mimir only tells him to stop then.
The thing is for all their wisdom and knowledge, all the Norse gods and beings always thought that stories about Kratos were exagerrated or simple myths. Can't blame them since about 1000 years passed and current Kratos is holding back immensely. The final moments of this fight is the first time he let himself go more than a little and Mimir, quite frankly, got scared of him. Likewise, in the Valhalla both him and Tyr were morbidly surprised that he indeed quite literally ripped off the head of another god with his bare hands with Tyr even admitting that he always thought the stories weren't literal and were simply embellished. If Kratos ever truly lost it in those realms he would easily beat Odin and co, but at the far, far too great of a cost to everyone else
I love how ironically disrespectful it is beating Heimdall who gloats about being untouchable by not allowing him to land a single scratch on you yourself

I had actually hoped that Kratos would unleash his "younger self" at Heimdall, only to snap out of it again and realizing that he must not let out that side of him again. Actually, yeah, Santa Monica wrote this scene very close to that, but they still prevented Kratos from TRULY brutalizing Heimdall. He went soft on him here (back then, he would've torn apart Heimdall's limbs and impaled or beaten him up with them 😂). At the very least, he should've given the Poseidon treatment here. Would've made him "coming to his senses" more impactful, and it would've reminded the players even more that "Young Kratos" can still come out whenever he's actually pissed about something (like Atreus getting endangered).
i will say it was a pretty brutal beat down on my first playthrough but i will agree they shouldve made the scene of him just beating heimdall senseless longer, nonetheless the double backhand was absolutely violating tho
It’s interesting that people wished that Kratos would’ve beaten Heimdall more than he did. I personally think the scene is perfect as is. 1. They needed a way for Kratos to be staring into heimdall’s eyes as he kills him. 2. It was never about the amount of gore or mutilation that made Kratos so violent back then. Shit, he still does that in the Norse games. What made him so violent was his lack of empathy when killing the gods. Only a monster would brutally beat a man to death, and gouge out their eyes with his thumbs. And that’s exactly what heimdall saw in his final moments, a monster.
He was the best Norse God. Like we had Kratos build a whole weapon for him despite knowing the prophecy lmao. Furthermore he feels like the old Greek Gods, his personality mainly. He's like Hermes + Helios from the Valhalla DLC
@@Eddie0102 I still prefer Heimdall over Baldur, he was just more enjoyable. Baldur was only only a threat cus Atreus was young and Kratos didn't wanna show any of his God like power early on, and even later wanted to protect Atreus.

@@azrael_morningstar Baldur literally only has the one weakness. And as shown, Baldur was getting stronger the more he was fighting Kratos, and that ACCELERATED when he finally could feel. You claim he can "Put him to sleep" by snapping his neck. Literally just no. There's no evidence to prove that actually works for long. If anything, Kratos would likely try to find a way to contain him. As he is pretty damn resilient to everything, Kratos would eventually give up trying to poke and prod him with various things. When beheading, neck snapping, breaking every bone doesn't work, Mistletoe is NOT the logical conclusion.
@@movieclips4449While Kratos was choking the life (literally) out of him, Heimdall got a glimpse of the Ghost of Sparta’s past by looking into his eyes. Heimdall is the Norse god of foresight, meaning he can see what people are thinking by looking into their eyes.
If Heimdall saw something bad, or unsettling when he use his powers with Thor and got scared, we can only imagine what he saw in those final moments after calling Kratos a Monster. The man died, probably watching the worst kind of hell or nightmare he could never imagine.
I like that we can see his face and when he’s smashing Heimdal on the ground and he’s strangling him I saw his expression and it looked like his anger and bloodlust from Greece came back for a moment it really looked like it
This is why kratos is insanely smart in battle, as we see at 1:40 kratos looks at the spikes on the walls, coming up with a plan to get rid of grind all beast in under 10 secs, we then go to how kratos beat heimdall, we know heimdall can read minds, to test this kratos at 2:04 does slow heavy punches, then at 2:28 he does significantly faster punches only for heimdall to block, then at 2:57 he does insanely fast punches, hitting heimdall, now knowing the speed he needs to go to to beat heimdall, he gets folded
Seeing this now, man i can't help but imagine how much more impactful this scene would have been when he chokes heimdall out if, when the camera panned around it was suddenly younger kratos with the old look, the stormy sky above him, from right after he killed Zeus, if even for a moment.
Seriously tho, he knew the man killed the entire pantheon of gods at the absolute pinnacle of physical physique and magical power. Even if he wasn't as ferocious as he once was, what made him think he ever stood a chance?
Same thing that makes a lot of people do foolish things: ego. He clearly saw himself as superior to all those Greek gods, seeing as he clearly thought he was superior to Kratos, who killed them. He thought himself untouchable.
A neat detail I noticed in the Heimdall fight is that if you block the kick he does before the death scene, Kratos will block the hit then proceed to kill. Idk if I’m tripping but it’s happened before
Theres something about the Kratos original skin that makes the death seen even more personal. Without the beard we can see the anger in Kratos face more clearly. And it just shows how far Kratos will go to protect Atreus
In my opinion, if they were going to introduce Young Kratos into the game, they should have reinstated his youthful physique. Although he does resemble Kratos to some extent, it is worth noting that this version of Young Kratos is not based on the one from the third game, where Kratos was modeled after and voiced by Terrence C. Carson. Instead, this young Kratos is a reimagining of what Christopher Judge's Kratos might have looked like. However, it is interesting to see that Kratos still retains his broader and more aged physique, which makes it look both strangely accurate and inaccurate at the same time. Nevertheless, I must admit that I might be biased because the original God of War Kratos was slimmer, taller, and more proportionate, representing a younger and more active version of himself from the past. Nevertheless, it is still a pretty cool DLC feature.
Heimdall: I'm going to find that little mongrel of yours and beat his face into a pulp! Also Heimdall: **IMMEDIATELY gets his face beaten into a pulp**
Got to hand it to Heimdall, for a guy who'd never been hit, never had a fair fight, he took it like a champ. He didn't realize he was vulnerable and then run away like a spoiled Prince. He stayed, he fought, and when he was given a chance to live, but with his tail between his legs, he died like a man, fighting. He was actually respectable in that regard.
I disagree. He was given an option to yield, continue to live and redeem himself. Instead, he let his ego get the better of him. His death absolutely could’ve been avoided if he didn’t get too full of himself. He didn’t die with honor, in my personal opinion
@@voids4818Redeem himself? Remember, Kratos is only the "Good guy" because you've been watching his story. From the other guys perspective, Kratos is the bad guy, and he himself doesn't need redeeming. So he still stuck to his guns, and still chose death over defeat. That makes him honorable.

Woulda been too on the nose imo, nice idea tho
Like with MGS:V with Venom Snake, everyone sees him as a Hero but Snake sees himself as a Demon.
"God of Foreskin" 💀💀💀💀
I mean, Poseidon's death is racially motivated.

They should have a voiceover with TC Carson. They probably won’t though
Maybe if the VA for og Kratos was ok with it, someone could deepfake his voice
@@Brute_Studios just like how Disney did Vader's original VO in Obi Wan Kenobi series. Not sure if Disney used some in-house technology for that tho.
But what I am sure of is once the PC version is out, creators on Nexusmod is gonna make one themselves.
@@Brute_Studios Now my intentions are to not be mean, but more of a puzzler: While I get how uncomfortable anyone would feel to have their voice deepfaked and they have their rights, this still had me thinking ever since with some nuance... Admittedly, it's simply impossible to remove each one outside of RUclips right? Not only that but others can find the voice AI fun, like the differing variations with characters singing various musical tracks as example, it gives freedom basically so as long as it's all in good fun *and state it's AI voiced...* But then there are these problems where one doesn't like it, other actors could take notice and I always has the hunch that maybe, they might illegalize such someday XD.
@@Albert-rl7txthing is, Vader is a really easy voice you can mask the AI with, OG kratos is gonna sound weird if someone doesnt put serious work into it
You want the whole game dialogue to be done by Carson just to match a skin? Not gonna happen.
If someone told me Kratos stopped when the enemy said "stop" 10 years ago I wouldn't have believed it
5:54 Heimdall threating Kratos to hurt his son himself, and a second later beats the shit out of him
Thor: "Stop holding back!"
Kratos: *Pulls out Blade of Olympus*
He was the best Norse God. Like we had Kratos build a whole weapon for him despite knowing the prophecy lmao.
Furthermore he feels like the old Greek Gods, his personality mainly. He's like Hermes + Helios from the Valhalla DLC
Baldur was the best, but in ragnarok I agree for sure. Baldur is up there in gow too 5 for sure
@@Eddie0102 I still prefer Heimdall over Baldur, he was just more enjoyable.
Baldur was only only a threat cus Atreus was young and Kratos didn't wanna show any of his God like power early on, and even later wanted to protect Atreus.
@@azrael_morningstar Well, even then, Baldur was unkillable till he got hit with mistletoe. Blind luck deemed that Baldur would be pricked with the sprig binding his quiver.
@@Sassaparilla he still wouldn't have been able to kill Kratos or Atreus.
As Kratos is capable of putting him to sleep by snapping his neck, giving him room to find ways to kill him through weaknesses.
It’s dope to see Spartan Rage still engaged for the cutscenes with Thor🔥🔥🔥 great attention to detail there
still insane heimdall is the only norse god to see what kratos actually did in the past.
How did he see it
@@movieclips4449While Kratos was choking the life (literally) out of him, Heimdall got a glimpse of the Ghost of Sparta’s past by looking into his eyes.
Heimdall is the Norse god of foresight, meaning he can see what people are thinking by looking into their eyes.
11:20 The Blade of Olympus has appeared.
NO WAY!
Knowing that heimdalls voice actor is a sweetheart irl makes his performance of the character even better.
If Heimdall saw something bad, or unsettling when he use his powers with Thor and got scared, we can only imagine what he saw in those final moments after calling Kratos a Monster.
The man died, probably watching the worst kind of hell or nightmare he could never imagine.
Quite possibly, he saw absolutely nothing. A void of thought, hands wrapped around his throat with a mind of their own.

he's sooooo pale here
I just wished we had a longer and more brutal fight with Thor in this game
I like that we can see his face and when he’s smashing Heimdal on the ground and he’s strangling him I saw his expression and it looked like his anger and bloodlust from Greece came back for a moment it really looked like it
Do you have a 10+ build for Young Kratos?
Yeah I do. I have save files for every boss fight, but I'm doing boss fights for Valhalla first before anything else
@@nhtdush Gotta get that grind
If this was really young Kratos, this shit would have gone so differently, especially after Heimdall threatened Atreus again.
The new graphics blessed us with a detailed version of this young Kratos, reminds me of the live-action for GoW Ascension.
Young Kratos would tear him apart without a word.
Thor : We took a piece of you for what you done.
Kratos : Back in my place i took all of the pieces i can get.
"Now show me the god-killer I've heard so much about!"
"You would be dead in a matter of seconds if you met him..."
“And beat his face into a pulp!” Really comedic timing there.
Idk if I’m tripping but it’s happened before
Young Kratos no damage now that is the true of definition “DISRESPECTFUL” 💀
“Do not fail her like you failed your family.” 12:01
Heimdall has now officially fought the calm and reasonable Kratos
Every god of war videos has to have at least one comment mention that “if this is young kratos, blah blah blah”😂
That's just how GOW fans are
Theres something about the Kratos original skin that makes the death seen even more personal.
This game is a true masterpiece 👌🏼 and will always be played

Got to hand it to Heimdall, for a guy who'd never been hit, never had a fair fight, he took it like a champ. He didn't realize he was vulnerable and then run away like a spoiled Prince. He stayed, he fought, and when he was given a chance to live, but with his tail between his legs, he died like a man, fighting.
He was actually respectable in that regard.
still a prick though

No. Again, Heimdall was cocky, rude, but he didn't genocide an entire planet. Kratos did. Compared to that, Heimdall is a school boy.
If this was young Kratos, he would have taken the eyes out of Heimdall and put one in his eye to tell future attacks and freeze time with. Or he would have just taken Heimdall’s head and used it for foresight, and time manipulation
