right-winger: gay people are trying to destroy families! right-winger's child: i'm gay right-winger: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE lmao the hypocrisy is so spicy
Exactly! It's the homophobe who finds they have a gay child and tells them they are no longer a part of the family for being different that destroys the family unit. The gay person still wants to be a contributing part of the family
Upvoted. This is exactly why I don't feel comfortable sharing my bi identity with my family. I still want to be a part of my family. I've heard my grandparents and family openly mock pronouns (of which I have), trans people, and be so homo/transphobic. I'm not closeted to myself anymore, but I am closeted to them, maybe eternally. I hope they can change, but with my own children, I'll be the change.
@@IvoryTowerPodcast I guess I’m playing life in danger mode. I live in an extremely rural and conservative and religious part of Canada and am openly bi and trans and dating someone from a different country. I’m happy, but I will admit, the anxiety is crippling when it gets brought up because the best I can hope for out here is “good for you, but I hate it and don’t support it. But you do you.” I hope you can get somewhere safe and be yourself. Hopefully things will get better
For those of you who don’t know, the buff man is called Gigachad. He is used to portray just general good people (example: yes, I support LGBTQ+, how can you tell? [shows Gigachad]). So the fact that he is being used for homophobic behavior is disrespecting the Gigachad name and legacy
2:00 I love how they used a shark for both science, and gays, implying that gays = science, therefore that being gay is actually scientifically correct, yet they constantly scream about how "being LGBTQ+ goes against biology!!!!" The irony is strong with this one
Like I’ve said before. Maybe being bisexual is the biological default. And then when our brains develop it’s randomized whether or not you’re straight, gay, stay bisexual or become aromatic or asexual or both.
Lack of visibility is exactly why I struggled with my mental health for 20+ years because I’m an asexual aromantic demigirl but I didn’t discover the existence of any of those terms until my early 30’s so I suffered in silence thinking I was broken and alone from about the age of 8/9 onwards and it wasn’t a pretty sight. Thanks for reminding people why visibility matters!
Similar situation, but trans demigirl here I'm 22 and only figured it out this year because of visibility, I knew something was "off" for at least a decade but was never able to put words on it until very recently, same for my aroace-ness which I discovered in 2020 and instantly recognized in myself People aren't "converted" by visibility, it makes them realise that being different from cis-straight is possible and is exactly as valid, and that's all.
Imagine being 56 and similar to you. My 30 yr old introduced me to the terms in last 2 years, I had no idea having been brought up by a cis mum in a cis world.... Honestly, we got your back hun... Knowing yourself is the most important thing ever - be happy, be you, I really hope you have a good, happy and chilled life 👋🏼🏴
I'm a sex repulsed asexual, so yeah, I don't need to see that. It's fine if you want to do it in the privacy of your home, but don't shove it in my face.
10:03 What pisses me off the most here is that they used Anne from Amphibia to carry LGBTphobic thoughts. Especially since Amphibia has LGBT+ representation. Sasha is bi, Yunan and Olivia are a lesbian couple, Ally is pan and Jess is bi and they're a couple, Mayor Toadstool and Toadie are a gay couple, Mr. X is gay, and Terri is non-binary.
Yeah! This is kind of random but my cousin said his friend told him not to watch amphibia because one of the guys is gay! I responded with “which one do they mean?” And then proceeded to list most of the ones you listed. It was kind of funny, but I think I convinced him to watch it.
I had a feeling Terri was non binary :0 like I'm sorry but they did not come off as cis to me (I'm non binary myself) Yeah, the irony that they used Anne for that meme though. And it's not even funny like what?? 😂 like if you're gonna make a homophobic joke (I'd rather you not like I mean..), at least make it funny.
Also! This whole idea that "progression will kill the traditional family!!!!!" Is hysterical to me. I am non-binary and I am bisexual. I'm married to a man. I am a stay at home parent to our three children and I crochet, embroider, paint and sing. We manage to be a progressive family without compromising the "sacred" family stuff. A couple we know also live a very traditional family experience, one works from home and takes on the "homec are" duties and the other goes out to a "regular" job 9-5, despite them both being men. So it would seem, shockingly, that, just like everyone else, LGBTQ+ people are just as capable of choosing a traditional family lifestyle without compromising who they are. 🤯🤯 It's almost as if all people are just people and everyone makes the same choices in life regarding lifestyle, family, career, religion etc etc and their sexuality and gender doesn't much come in to that.
The "protecting the kids from the gay" thing kills me. Y'all have no idea how much of my life was spent hating myself (and, consequently, other queer people) because I had it drilled into my head in my youth that anything LGBT+ is some weird deviance that, while harmless overall, is by no means acceptable and should be shunned from polite society. I was 20 before I came to accept myself. I'm 27 now. I still cannot be out in my own home because my mom's made it clear that having a queer child is a sign of her moral failing as a parent, and with the way the economy is right now it doesn't look like I'll be able to leave her house any time soon. Had I known as a child that how I felt was normal and ok, I'd probably be less of a mess than I am. Whatever your beliefs, as a parent or someone who takes care of a child, your main goal should be helping that person to be a well-rounded, healthy adult. Letting your kids know it's not ok to be gay is the opposite of that, and I don't understand how anyone who says they care for their child can also potentially deny them a major part of their identity without any trace of irony about it.
@@fuzzymath6240 Well those are certainly all words, arranged into something vaguely shaped like a sentence. Overall it's one of the better attempts I've seen from a conservative that's trying to imitate a human.
I'm so sorry that you are in that position. I have two children, and I cannot imagine telling them that there is something wrong with who they are or who they love. A parent's job is to accept, love, and support their children.
@@SqwidiotYeah, like someone has absolutely no hesitation or shame in saying that. They don’t even try to make it sound better than it is. It’s actually funny that they don’t try in the slightest not to get cancelled.
I love the “gay people can’t physically have children” argument because not everyone wants to have kids. There are also so many kids in shitty places who could use loving parents to adopt them. They don’t care about the kids, they’re just trying to push down the LGBTQ+
My mom telling me trans people can't have children... When I literally never wanted children, ever (well, looking back, there was one short period of time as a kid where I imagined having a daughter for the sake of teaching her to like "boy things"... turns out I just wanted to BE that girl and had no idea I could) And yeah, you don't need to MAKE the children to be a parent, since there are people who make them and don't want to be parents (or can't, there are plenty of different cases, but you probably get my point)
They're used to rainbows being threatening after The Sky Wizard in their Big Book of Fairy Tales used a rainbow to promise not to drown all of humanity again. That Big Book of Fairy Tales has them doing all sorts of silly things, all because they're afraid of the Invisible Sky Wizard.
As Kermit once said, "Why are there so many, Songs about rainbows, And what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, But only illusions, And rainbows have nothing to hide"
@@tjenadonn6158 But the rainbow was supposed to be a promise that it would never happen again. Of course, people also often speak of the horrible curse of "the Mark of Cain", forgetting that it was actually a *_PARDON_* from God for his crime, warning anyone who met him that they must not try to harm him or God would strike them down. People get all sorts of things wrong, even when they're spelled out for them very clearly. No wonder Jesus couldn't stand them, and would often lose his temper abruptly in the middle of a lesson and run off into the desert for days on end.
9:10 I'm glad whenever RUclipsrs outside of the US are like, "What's the Pledge of Allegiance?" because I don't think enough Americans realize how INCREDIBLY WEIRD and cult-ish sounding the pledge is to nearly everyone else in the world (excluding maybe North Korea).
I’m an American. Or at least by being born in America. And I can tell you that the first time I heard the pledge of allegiance. The first thing I thought was “…is this a cult?”
Same for me. What made it worse was that i didn't understand English at the time, sounded like gibberish, and wasn't explained to me at all. I was 8 lol
I was homeschooled by far-right religious extremists. My mother tried to make me recite the pledge of allegiance every day at "school." I eventually refused and told her "i've already pledged my allegiance, what's the point of doing it again and again?" I always felt weird about it, even as a heavily indoctrinated and sheltered kid.
Yea, it is. It's very.. idealized. What you are pledging might not be true anymore. "Liberty and freedom for all"? Not really. (On a separate note, you shouldn't be forced to say it. It should be be very clear that you always have the option to sit down. That's not the case usually.)
As a "progressive" Christian who tries very hard to follow Christ's example of love and acceptance, it's awful that people who claim to have the same values as me are using Jesus's name to sin against at least 10% of the population. They sin by hurting a community and trying to say that they have the authority to judge people. When people accept God's Grace, we accept God's love and show our love by loving our fellow man. Pride is about acceptance, God is about love, and there is more than enough to go around in the great universe.
And them using their faith, your faith, to excuse it is also breaking your religion's doctrine The "you shouldn't say the Lord's name in vain" part Thank you for being an ally even if its not that much
@@rebeccasatterley1542you should love your and treat them nicely but if they start acting crazy they're no longer your they're just a crazy person acting
By now, "deciding to be lesbian" always reads to me as "a closeted bi person who finally allows herself to explore the side of her attraction she has repressed until now". If you can decide, there's at least one other option for you, so you're either bi or even pansexual.
Jamie I just had to come and tell you that I used some of your videos today to help my 92 year old father understand trans people better. With all the news in the US about banning gender affirming care for kids and teenagers, he realized he didn’t really understand what everyone was talking about, but he knew which one of his kids to ask about it! 🥰 So I did my best as a queer-friendly, on-the-bi-fringes, blue haired 53 year old cis woman. But he struggled with just how much hormones could really do… so I said “would you be interested in watching a video a guy made that compiles footage of how his appearance changed over time?” and he that “yeah that would help.” So I pulled up one of yours that showed five years of T, and he was AMAZED. Then I showed him one of the short “we got married!” ones, and then the one where you and Shaaba told her little sisters you were trans. He loved them all. He had more questions but he REALLY understood how it was just as simple as knowing who and what you are and that we don’t have to understand how it feels because we haven’t experienced it. This is a man who used to be really homophobic, who once referred to a trans friend of mine as “it” (not in front of her, thank god), but who never thought of himself as anything but a kind progressive person until I would tell him he was acting like an ass. 30 years later we’re doing pretty damn good. I thought you’d like to hear a story like that. 💛🧡

6:21 I have challenged a few of my friends to join me in _not_ watching shows that focus on straight couples. The two who actually joined me for it were shocked at how so many shows and movies they didn't consider to have romance at all did, in fact, have the main dude kissing or outright sleeping with at least one woman. And then we watched a few episodes of a show with a gay couple in it, and at first they were annoyed with how "in your face" the gay couple were, except... they weren't. They were doing the same exact things that straight couples do, but because it's a novel scene, it stood out more. (I think it was _Modern Family?_ I can't remember; it's been a few years). Like, you might ignore a group of boys playing football in the background of a scene at a school, but if it were girls you'd notice immediately, because it's rare to see girls join in on contact sports, let alone two whole teams' worth. It's like what Knuckles said in Sonic Boom about feminism: Treating every single time that a female does well as an outlier instead of the norm, _prevents it from becoming the norm._ The same is true for LGBTQ+ stuff. If people stopped freaking out every time it showed up, they'd stop noticing when it did, because it would then be _normal._
9:00 Yes, Jamie, as someone from the states you are correct that it is called the pledge of allegiance Many of us are against the concept of forcing kids to do it. We were basically trained to say words we barely understand at young ages. A lot of us thought the word “indivisible” was “invisible” because we didn’t know the word indivisible. Yet the school was coercing us into saying it, and if a kid didn’t want to say it there was problem. It’s definitely “interesting”
I was talking to my bro about favorite subjects ... he's into History and I'm into Science ... He said, "Science doesn't answer anything." And he says "The Bible is Historical events." I can't ...
Anyone who thinks the bible is entirely accurate needs to get their head looked at. Even good Christians know that it's full of edits and mistranslations.
Before the progress flag, there was a version of the pride flag that had a black stripe on the bottom, for people who were lost to HIV/AIDS. This seems to largely have been forgotten since finding accurate queer history online for the 90s and earlier is more difficult. In any case, it seems to me the homophobe knew this and was making a crude joke towards the loss of queer lives, but on the flip side, this is the first I've heard from that crew that we'd have a chance to be accepted into heaven at all! lol
I think the homophobe was just adding a black spot & saying they had no chance of reaching heaven 'cuz the rainbow flag just meant "gay" to them. I think you're reading too much into it. These morons don't do things like researching anything. That would require work, & actually using their brains for something other than the bigotry they engage in.
Homophobes: LGBT+ people are such snowflakes Also homophobes when they see two dudes showing affection towards eachother: omg two men having feelings for eachother, loving eachother for who they are? That's disgusting, think of the children! I'm such a good parent. Also the irony of them using Anne from Amphibia for a homophobic joke 😂 like, have you not watched the whole show? Yikes, my dude.
also them: elects politicians that are genuine rapists and pedophiles and attack drag queens for no explainable reason. And any “reason” is just a bunch of ramblings and ridiculous claims about “gays are horrible because it “threatens” the family unit”with absolutely little to ZERO evidence to back those claims.
10:05 gotta love the irony of having Anne Boonchoy from Amphibia (a show with canon--but sutle--LGBTQ+ rep) calling the progress flag gross Ps. Love your content Jamie! Also, ya'll are valid whether you're new to the community or you've been here for years. Have a great day/night!
Hot take: Progress flag IS gross. the straight up rainbow used to have an all encompassing meaning. But the progress like is becoming more like a list. So now instead of just LGBTQ it’s now “Gay + trans” which can be more exclusionary. Before it was all encompassing but now it’s “where’s the bi section” “where is the NB section” “what about ace?”
@@jnl7196 shaaba has a great video talking just about that, 100% recommend. Though I don't think the flag is gross. I think it's a cute little extra flag for people who feel like using it. I just don't think it should be the main one.
i nearly got in actual trouble for not saying the pledge of allegiance during school. the teacher tried to tell me that was illegal and another student made him google it.
Another thing that really strikes me as odd is when homophobes say that they aren't homophobes because they aren't scared of gay people. But homo just means the same and not gay. The thing with homophobes is that when they try to say something smart they just heard it somewhere and don't spend a single thought on it themselves...

Imo that's happening now with nuerodivergence, we're expanding the definitions of what's acceptable and required behavior and suddenly they're no longer considered outside the lines enough to be dysfunctional bc we started making space for the way they function. “Only straight white people can feel love” that whole thing is ridiculous if it’s true. Also the “romanticism” movement within art and literature was not about what we would consider romance today, romantic used to mean dramatic or tragic. A lot of art from the romantic period was violent and several of the most well known depicted cannibalism. Also, I personally think the reason why people think that women, black people, or LGBTQ people, (or other oppressed groups) are going to kill them, is because that's what those people either have done, or wish to do deep down. They as oppressors have an idea that what they did was wrong, but they justify it as human nature. Then they assume that is what the oppressed will do if they are no longer silenced and shoved to the margins. It really only reflects badly on them.
its embarrassing seeing these memes and realizing how little these people self-reflect. they see one gay person and go "AGH the world is ending! these gays are everywhere!" because to them its so strange and unusual that they spend all their time thinking about it, ignoring how little of it actually is. tell me you've never used your brain without telling me you've never used your brain.

I definitely need a hug right now. I haven’t had any physical contact in…probably 8 years. I’m so touch starved that I feel cold even in 90 degree heat. I honestly would go to the pride parade. But I can’t because both my parents are anti LGBTQ. They have said some bad stuff about the community. Right in front of their gay trans daughter. And it broke me. I had a panic attack and passed out. Ever since then I’ve felt hollow. And recently I’ve been having flashbacks to the time I held a knife to my wrist. …this probably isn’t the best place to vent. But I can’t get therapy because of my parents. I already have a physiatrist. But my parents usually sit in on my appointments. So I can’t vent. Once again. I apologize for venting.

I’m called for everything. And recently I’ve been just throwing myself into my jobs to try and take my mind off of this. But even then I feel like I’m just in the way. It’s gotten so bad that my hair has been turning white and thinning. The only reason I’m here. Is because I know my family would miss me. About that one with the sharks and "oh I’m so heroic for holding my child up walking through science and gay sharks"... more people die annually from FALLING COCONUTS than sharks. 150 per year to 5 per year. @@melissabarrett9750 Your reply feels a teensy-tiny bit too serious for what is clearly a joking jab at the homophobes, but hey, I undertstand that you're frustrated AT the homophobes. I guess some cishets feel threatened because they simply don't understand what being queer means, thus they don't know Facts (obviously), thus they are scared. Because it is unknown to them. Which, ultimately, is just a humane reaction.
I had a feeling Terri was non binary :0 like I'm sorry but they did not come off as cis to me (I'm non binary myself)
Yeah, the irony that they used Anne for that meme though. And it's not even funny like what?? 😂 like if you're gonna make a homophobic joke (I'd rather you not like I mean..), at least make it funny.
And Jenny, (Mr X's assistant) who's nonbinary, right? Uses they/them and is called honey and hubby by Mr X I think.
Also Anne herself is gay coded. Note that scene when Hop Pop asks her if she has a boyfriend back home, and she shoves him off the cart.
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THIS BRO AND ANNE IS CANON SAPPHIC TOO
This commemt was so heartwarming and nice to read. Thanks for sharing!

I hope you can find your own safe space soon!

My mom telling me trans people can't have children... When I literally never wanted children, ever (well, looking back, there was one short period of time as a kid where I imagined having a daughter for the sake of teaching her to like "boy things"... turns out I just wanted to BE that girl and had no idea I could)
And yeah, you don't need to MAKE the children to be a parent, since there are people who make them and don't want to be parents (or can't, there are plenty of different cases, but you probably get my point)
it tickles me whenever they try to make rainbows seem threatening.
As Kermit once said,
"Why are there so many,
Songs about rainbows,
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions,
But only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide"

My mother tried to make me recite the pledge of allegiance every day at "school."
I eventually refused and told her "i've already pledged my allegiance, what's the point of doing it again and again?"
I always felt weird about it, even as a heavily indoctrinated and sheltered kid.
I’m in the US too and my Canadian friends ask “ What’s up with the flag obsession?” I don’t get it either, ugh the pledge is weird.
Yea, it is. It's very..
They think God is so weak he needs their help 😂

Before the progress flag, there was a version of the pride flag that had a black stripe on the bottom, for people who were lost to HIV/AIDS. That’s kinda like with my siblings. Except they’re two straight people in the group. The reason I say two is that I’m pretty sure my second oldest sister is aroace. But I don’t know for sure.

I am extremely touch starved. And I feel empty.
I'm pretty sure some studies have estimated most of the species is in fact bi, and history records show that people who exclusively were with one gender was considered weird- even what we'd call straight today. Heterosexuality was originally a mental disorder, "a perversion of the opposite sex", just like how homosexuality was originally considered a disorder

Imo that's happening now with nuerodivergence, we're expanding the definitions of what's acceptable and required behavior and suddenly they're no longer considered outside the lines enough to be dysfunctional bc we started making space for the way they function. (Hope that makes sense, I have a headache lol )

They could change. But I highly doubt it. They grew up in the 50s. So it would take a while.
But I’m not alone with this. I am out as gay to most of my siblings. And my niece is actually the first one to maybe find out that I am trans. (First as In before me.)
But I’ve still been having problems with the gender dysphoria and extreme burn out. I’ve been having flashbacks to the time I was close to…doing something bad to myself.
Is it a safe assumption that every homophobe who attacks science in the same sentence is a hardcore gatekeeping Christian?
Yes
Seriously though. If they were to just stop paying attention to the LGBTQ+, they realize that they're not really everywhere

I remember those stairs being tweeted, and it wasn't even about LGBT.
The original photo was about a community trying to get those stairs replaced with safer ones.
They were painted by a man in protest/awareness, officials painted them grey to hush the movement, and the whole community painted them rainbow again.
Eventually, the stairs were demolished (as shown) to build new, safe ones, and those are officially rainbow in homage to the entire community's solidarity.
Again, it was never a gay anything at all.
The Community Notes were awesome. 😂
