I had a boyfriend introduce me to this album 22 yrs ago and instantly became my favorite album.. and to this day is still one of my favorites that is on repeat all of the time. Van Morrison is absolutely incredible. This song may be my favorite. When I was pregnant 18 years ago, I played this song everyday to soothe my nerves and after my son was born, this album was played everyday while he slept so peacefully. I will never get enough!
This is one of the greatest songs ever written. The Astral Weeks version still makes me have to pull the car over to listen to it. Great to hear this beautiful stripped down version.
The Astral Weeks album was my first vinyl purchase in high school. I played and played it. It spoke to me like no other at that time of my life - the love of life the love of young girls at school, the love and camaraderie I felt for my friends back then. Glad to hear this unique rendition of Sweet Thing.
@@peacetrain3320 There's just something about it.. To have a zoot and lie back and listen to that album without touching skip because it never out stays it's welcome, I find it hard to explain. I love it! I guess is my point. To hear how it came together just makes it that much better, lightning in a bottle type shit. 😊
First heard this really stoned I 1974... Think I played it daily for years. Recently a good friend sent me a CD version. I still listen to it regularly nearly 50 yrs later x love it. My Desert Island disc.
Beautiful variations on the melody. No exaggeration to call Van a one-off musical genius. Astral Weeks, Veedon Fleece, Moondance, His band and the street choir all great albums. The man is a gift from the musical gods.
I've listened to hundreds of albums. There's only a few that I never get sick of and want to listen to again and again over a period of decades. Kind of Blue and Astral Weeks. Works of inspired genius!
This is one of the best albums (Astral Weeks). A friend turned me on to it 1974, I'm for ever thankful. Veedon flease is also excellent. Love this man's music.
Will try and attend one more performance; 2023...Wish I could travel more, I would see more shows...Fan since THEM...Bought Astral Weeks in 68'..I was 15 living in San Francisco..(Born & Raised)...Always followed his music; it is just part of my psyche...
When my time comes I'll be happy to drift away, hopefully on some beach looking across the Pacific ocean, listening to this and watching the sunset, no tears, no more sorrow, just bliss x
Thanks for this, man. The song that makes me glad to be alive and the song I want them to send me on my way when I die. Never heard this version. Van, you gorgeous little Northern Irish genius.
Thanks for sharing, the gentleness of the guitars is so gorgeous, backing up the songs 'christ, I think this is it' so i better tell them - and then love makes you write this. The best recording I've heard, who needs the record.
The man would never sing a song that didn't have soul and meaning. Super guitar playing.and you still hear the words of the song perfectly.. The perfect balance. .
A VERY BEAUTIFUL song ---- sung with BRILLIANT ARTISTRY and PROFOUND SENSITIVITY by the always SUPERB 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 PERFORMER that is, Van Morrison---- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
"I shall walk and talk in gardens all misty wet with rain" the line floats in and out of my head like a beacon, since I first heard Astral Weeks at 14 or 15 years old, helping find the path...
Using wife's phone today not her opinions This brings back so many memories of high school then the Army just never got to see Van live but close my eyes and now I finally did thank you for this video
This is even better than the original studio version and I have to overcome my extreme reverence for Richard Davis's bass work on the latter in order to say this. What an incredible version.
@@ocearbhaill3894 It's a shame how he chose to end his life and career, but we will always have Astral Weeks and the early live performances of those classic songs.
Always wondered how he recreated this album. I heard, from Lester Bangs, he had a host of Jazz musicians on the production of the actual song, he does a great job here, just guitar and voice. Wow, truly impressed, such a beautiful song.

I've spent nearly two decades collecting music like this. Sometimes the quality is really good as with this one, sometimes, it's not very good but yet good enough to hear and appreciate the artistry and musicianship and the experience of the performance. Still doesnt beat being there....

My favorite album of all time.
Van heals my soul I'm so grateful. My heart dances to every lyric like a piece of heaven on earth.
this is a most beautiful comment right from the heart. that's what it all is about...much appreciation ✌😎😘👍
Yes, it sounds like going home, the melody drawing us ever nearer to the goal...and we'll remember why we came, and why we gave our pain...for love.
I have loved Van since I was 16. My first love introduced me to him in 1982 and I’m so glad❤️

Van-tastic .... !!
