instrumentaali why does it make you cry? I agree with you , for me it’s more the music that Juxtaposes it than the actually concept , what’s your reasoning?
I always expecting everything to go south in one of those flashbacks. Some sign of abuse or something he had towards his creation. Then I saw heart and star shaped cookies. By the end I couldn't believe I had ever thought such things from the Inventor.
Vincent Price was actually a very accomplished gourmet cook. It gives me a certain satisfaction to know that my love of food and cooking was shared with one of my favorite genre's true immortals.
He has great commentary on the entire movie. He said this scene was particularly tricky because all the parts of the machine had different tempos he had to fit the music into.
CharChar why is it depressing , it fascinates the hell out of me , every individual finds different things in the film depressing , why does this depress you
@@goosebumpskid1281 Well, the reverse of what we usually think of cyborgs. He's like a robot Frankensteind monster, except we aren't sure how much is artificial or not.
The music score is *perfect* it begins grim with the sounds of the machines very loud to whimsy to more delicated with the machines fading in the background. I loved it
Edward Scissorhands is not only one of my favorite scores of all time, but this particular track is one of my all time favorite tracks! It's perfection!
I like how he gives all his inventions a face, kinda like he gave them a personality and how please & happy he is with inventions. But I love it when he holds up the cookie and gets the idea for his greatest invention.
it actually has a meaning. cookies are unhealthy but celery is a healthy food which made that robot standing out for being good as well which made it the perfect choice for life
I feel some kinship with him. I like to share things that makes me happy with a smile on my face. If that thing is with a creation (in my case drawingsnandnideas for stories) I feel excited and happy like a child.
Vincent Price was truly one of the best actors ever. Not just in the horror genre, but of all time. I'm so glad that this film was his last because it's truly a great send off for Price. It's almost like he passed the torch to Johnny Deep in this movie too. What I love about this movie is character of Edward, he is a creepy looking fella but is so innocent. He is truly is an outcast like most characters in Tim Burton movies like Pee Wee, Batman & Vincent (his short movie)
I love this scene too because you totally understand everything when he simply holds the cookie heart up to the machine's chest. It's amazing. The machines appear rough and intimidating, but then you realize they have the most innocent and sweet purpose behind them (just like Edward). This is one of my most favorite movies. Every time I watch it it keeps me thinking.
The late, great Vincent Price looked almost as if he was enjoying himself on set while they were shooting this scene, like as if he was having a lot of fun the set of Edward Scissorhands. It clearly looks as if he's having a blast😊 It's too bad that this was his last film before he passed away though😢
The Inventor, a man of great intelligence and keen engineering skills, atop the dreary castle that looms over suburbia and it's pastel horizons, has everything he wanted. Machines that can make the best cookies with love and care, in every shape and size imaginable. Even machines to cut his greens and assemble a nice salad. But not a legacy. The machines may rust and falter, but not a son. Yet, the Inventor thought, once upon a Christmastime, if he could build machines, why not a son... A son named Edward?
the most applicable thing to create is life, in order to have children is but the far chance dream of those that had passion for creation and artistic view with the tools of both the mind and a set of hands.
I wanna help Edward giving some nice hands. I'd experiment everything for wonderful great working hands all day and night. Just to see him very happy..
Most actors, once they're older, just kind of read through their lines. They're still believable, but they can't contribute much emotion. But Vincent is great in this scene. He isn't like that at all. He's clearly still getting into it just as much as he did in the 50's and 60's and giving it his all, despite his age and health problems. His simple and small performance is what really makes this movie for me.
My thought is that the Inventor - many years ago - built all of that so he could make all kinds of food and then, whenever there was a fair or festival going on down below in (what is now) Suburbia, he would load it all onto a cart and journey down the mountain to sell it all; then he would use the moneys for upkeep of the mansion or to build more machines. But... then, he grew old, the fairs slowly faded as times changed, he couldn't make the journey any more...
@EVN12383 I've thought about that too, I just imagine that since that was his home, he's simply just reminded of his dad from the can opener, and then the movie just takes the opportunity to explain Edward's creation.
Apart from the fact that adding the egg to this type of cake doesn't make much sence, I admit that the scene perfectly shows how the inventor got an idea of creating Edward.
I just realized... the inventor chose the only robot without a happy face to bring to life.
;( OMG I'm already crying stop!
The way the inventor observes his work, smiling, appreciating his work, yet wishing he had someone to share it with just breaks my heart.
I wonder who he is making those cookies for. I figure to sell. He's not going to eat them all, right?
@@sha11235 If I had to guess I'd say that he used to work in a cookie factory or something like that. 🍪
seeing him approach the robot and hold up the heart shaped cookie against its chest always makes me cry
It's really deep
No words. No dialogue. We know everything we need to from one simple visual. It's one of the most beautiful and underrated moments of the film.
inspiration
instrumentaali why does it make you cry? I agree with you , for me it’s more the music that Juxtaposes it than the actually concept , what’s your reasoning?
@@MJballer97 Come on, why are you even asking that? It would take a truly depraved person not to be moved be that part.
This is the most inefficient cookie assembly line ever.
That's why I love Tim Burton, he's like Dr. Seuss's evil twin!
Yes, but it work. And the old man has fun ;-)
Not really "Evil" just dark and quirkier.
I loved the cookie making machine
He's demented, not evil
My god you've put it into words
Nobody ever gives Danny Elfman enough credit for his incredible score!
Exactly !!
He's the best!
Score's*
He's not very versatile.
"show don't tell" at its best
I always expecting everything to go south in one of those flashbacks. Some sign of abuse or something he had towards his creation.
Then I saw heart and star shaped cookies.
By the end I couldn't believe I had ever thought such things from the Inventor.
This flashback was to show how the Inventor came up with the idea to make Edward.
It's a perfect swerve from "Mad Frankenstein genius" to "Darkly whimsical Genius" and who better than Vincent Price to play the part?
Vincent Price was actually a very accomplished gourmet cook. It gives me a certain satisfaction to know that my love of food and cooking was shared with one of my favorite genre's true immortals.
Daniel Ryan me too.
The music for this scene is just perfect. Danny Elfman is capable of great work.
He has great commentary on the entire movie. He said this scene was particularly tricky because all the parts of the machine had different tempos he had to fit the music into.
Vincent Price and Tim Burton what an amazing combination
Dont forget that Edward is basically a living robot thing lol
an immortal one at that.
Which is depressing.
CharChar why is it depressing , it fascinates the hell out of me , every individual finds different things in the film depressing , why does this depress you
Then why does he get cuts from touching his face? ...makes no sense at all.
@Nebula yeah but that proves he not a robot?
I think he's more of a cyborg. Half human, half machine.
@@goosebumpskid1281 Well, the reverse of what we usually think of cyborgs. He's like a robot Frankensteind monster, except we aren't sure how much is artificial or not.

Swear to God this is some of the most beautiful film score I've ever heard

This reminds me of the opening credits of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Only it's all practical instead of cgi.
This is like the scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure with the making of Pee Wee's breakfast.

How can you not be filled with happiness when you watch Vincent Price just walk around?

i wish vincent price could be eternal!
federico gher he's Alvie still you know in our hearts and our thoughts and we will see him again
He is eternal. He lives in the great beyond and through his great body of work.
This scene is a memory, which means he was already conscious as that machine.
Lmao, it looks so evil yet all it's doing is baking cookies-
This scene is scored so heavily it's almost a musical. The way the machines move and turn is almost balletic. Amazing.
This whole scene has a cool rhythm to it. I love the music and cartoony sounds.
“ congratulations, you just triggered a Vietnam flashback”
God dammit this comment made me laugh so hard

All that machinery just to make cookies??
Tim Burton.
Cutting machine was Edward.
I Wish That Man Didnt Die. I Really Like Him At The Start
The inventor had to die sometime. We all have to die sometime.
Happy Birthday Vincent!! We miss you!!
Its the inspiration for Edward. If you watch at 2:07 there is a robot with scissor hands and the inventor puts a heart cookie up to it.
The robot I think was Edward.
How awesome is that film score. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
When i saw this as a kid it frighten me but it also was extremely fascinating to me...like something you cant look away from.
The moment you realize you wanna live in this mansion over the rest of suburbia!
*Am I the only one who wants to eat that cookie?*
Since I was a kid I wish this.
I love this scene, it's one of the rare occasions when Tim Burton slipped Jack Skellington's face in before he even made nightmare before Christmas
Rare? this would make the the 3rd appearance, might even be one in Tim Aladdin short

No wonder Edward’s heart breaks so easily - he has a cookie heart.
the cookie cutter legs are so inaccurate that the first time i saw this i lost it
This is such a Tim Burton scene, idk how to even explain it he's like a dark dr Seuss
1:24...I love Price's expression.
This movie is such a piece of art, not only my favorite Tim Burton movie but my favorite Christmas movie.
It's a cookie factory, but also a celery chopping factory as well.
Did anyone else notice that all the other robots have smiles and expressions except edward?
So Edward was fitted with a memory
This reminds me of Pee Wee Herman's kitchen in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, with all the gadgets making his breakfast.
PUT DAT COOKIE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s so sad how he was lonely then he dies
Edward or Vincent? It was heartbreaking when his daddy died. :(

The cookie heart was just a metaphor. He had an actual "real" heart later on.
It's so Jack skellingtonish I love it
I'm glad Vincent got to have his name in such a incredible movie, as well as have it be his last movie before he passed

Well, how 'bout that?
Edward must b so depressed
Vincent Price; What a legend.
how does a tiny egg make 20 cookies
The movie is so special. Most Of us can relate to Edward’s sadness.
I cried the first time I saw the movie. This scene. The inventor had no children and he was old, so he wanted to build one. And he did.
It all started with a cookie
This part always scared me, it still does give me the creeps. I know this film is my favourite but there is something about this part O_o
the cookie factory is really just a sketchy version of the tubby custard machine.
If you are to lazy to bake cookies just do what this guy did
83 dislikes? Well I guess this scene isn't to everyone's taste, but it sure makes you reflect on what it means to be human.
This movie is what made me a fan of Vincent Price.
How is this a memory of Ed's if he was not invented yet?
So, he could've been Edward cookie-cutter legs or Edward Wiskyhands the entire time?
You’ve got a point there.
Vincent Price in his final role.
So...who exactly was the Inventor making those cookies FOR? I mean, he didn't need to eat all that stuff.
Actually I worked at this joint. It was in Elk Grove village back in 69.😆
