Hello! Just wanted to say this video was a huge help. Thanks! Also wanted to say that if a feller has the tower style tank vent... a piece of 1/4" ID hose and a MS 250 tank vent works just fine to replace it. You don't need a new handle assembly! Heat the 1/4" hose in hot water and slide it over the tank vent. Slide the MS250 hose and vent inside the 1/4" hose. It works!

I put a climatically controlled carb on my 026, today. It already has a ms 260 air filter and air filter cover. It rolled over in six pulls in 40 degree weather from a bone dry carb. I did pressure test the carb before I put it on to 7# and it passed perfectly. I found the initial carb settings were a little on the rich side but it cranked up and ran. After it warmed up, I reset them to one turn out on the L jet and 3/4T out on the high. I had to really turn out the idle to get the chain from turning but that it normal. I let it run for 15 minutes at idle and it passed that test, as well as the dump test. It gives good acceleration. I will break out the tach when it warms up and give it is final tune. I will limit it to LT 13,000 at WFO. No use wringing out every bit of power out of a 25 year old saw. Thanks for the tip on the air filter and air filter cover.

I put a Ms 260 air filter on my 026, today. It works fine. I plugged the hole in it for the climate controlled carb. It works fine. I like the new air filter better than that flocked pos sold by Stihl. It was an
Oregon replacement air filter. I am going to put a climate compensating carb on it and an ms 260 air filter cover on my 026. I will remove the plug, then. My starts up in several pulls, too. I also put a .325 Oregon ProLite 18 inch bar on it, too. I did this to match up with the .325 rim sprocket on the sprocket. An 18 inch bar is enough for an .026. I also put the thicker steel sprocket washer on it because you should be using this washer if you are using a rim sprocket. You use the thin aluminum sprocket washer with spur sprockets. My saw starts easy, hot or cold.

his was already had the newer style vent though .. is it as simple as swapping it out if you have the older style?

I did it. Seems better. Have not cut any wood with it yet. But even if the air filter stays cleaner, I'll be happy. I used a drywall zip plug anchor for the plug and silicone around it. Thanks for the advice.

I cut the toe of an old sock off and put it over my air filter as a kind of pre or large pieces filter.

Brandon Tipton , early this morning I was cleaning that dang filter and said to myself " there got to be something to fix this ". My dad bought me this saw when I was 12 years old and iam in my 30s . Just ordered up the parts , so hopefully today will be the last of the constant cleaning and calling her dirty names on first start up. lol thanks Brandon.

I Have no problem with mine as the factory made it.
With every tank of gas I blow off the air filter anyway.
I have air available because I always blow off the gas and oil caps before opening.
In 32 years its never given me any trouble except recently when the original spark plug failed.
I have never in my life seen a spark plug just quit working..

I am going to update my 026 a little more. I am going to put the 026 Pro air filter on it and 026 Pro air filter cover, but I also going to put a 026 Pro carb on it. I had to replace the rear handle so I already have the short tank vent and flippy cap on it. It was a crash damaged lat production 026. I am also going to replace the tank vent on the tank with a Stihl tank vent (00003505800), because the Chinese one is leaking when the saw gets hot. FYI, a Ms 260 air filter will fit the 026, as will the air filter cover.

Hey Jonsberg! I just inherited an 026 as well. Unfortunately I have the old style vent preventing me from doing this upgrade. I do need a new filter. Patches of the flocking are gone. Mine was sold in 91.

The early 2000's 026 non-pro had a large filter without the intellicarb snorkel port. The pro model had the port. Later models all came with intellicarb ports.

Brandon, you should replace that air filter with a Stihl OEM air filter otherwise you will end up with starting problems. You also may or may not end up with a consistent half choke position. I put a clone Stens air filter on my 026 and after sitting for two months,it was dead meat. I must have pulled it over 50 times and nothing, not even any signs of life. I am running the Ms 260 Stihl carb. My 026 is a 026 Pro, even with an adjustable oil pump. And climatically controlled carb. The problem was the air filter. I replaced it and she started right up. I also put a brand new Stihl gas filter on it.

I picked up a crash damaged 026 last week and I had to replace the gas tank with an ms 260 tank. It went on perfectly. Mine is a late model 026 and had the short tank vent and my new ms 260;also has the short tank vent. What type of carb did you put on it to update it to an ms 260 Pro standard? Mine has a WT 493 carb on it now. I have several extra carbs from my ms 360 and 440 builds. I will look and see which one matches up best with the impulse and fuel lines. They are HD version carbs.

I was interested until you said I'd have to switch out the whole handle housing to get a gas tank without a tower. Granted my saw is from around 1991 time frame but I was logging and I'd only clean the filter every month or so. Not sure why you were needing to clean it so often.

Trevor S Dull chains will clog the air filter quickly. Sharp chains make chips not dust!

    • @brandonm7863
      @brandonm7863 3 года назад

@@lindaputnam9698 indeed and what you are cutting, logging clean standing tamarack and western red cedar or are you cutting dead down rocky mountain cedar with bark and pack rat nests throughout.
There's a reason people hate harvesting Pinyon and juniper other than being a lot more eork, dirty cedar(juniper) or rock hard pitch in the pinyon trashes saws. But some of the best softwood fuel wood there is.
