Neil Giraldo played all the guitar and bass on the song and he has kept how he plays the end of the SOLO a secret. He said in Guitar World that the guitar player in Rick's band have asked him when they were in Neil's town and Niel would come on stage to play it with Rick to let them see how he plays it and he said he always says 'SURE' then when it comes to it he turns around like EVH in 1976/77 with his tapping.
This song really made me get heavy into playing guitar along with the amazing solo in My Sharonna by the Knack.

I didn't realize it was Neil Geraldo until I was playing "Hit me with your best shot" and I noticed some similarities. One Google later... sure enough. I was sitting outside eating my lunch on the steps of the Trinity church in Boston, when who goes walking by hand and hand? Neil and Pat Not one person noticed... I HATE to bother celebrities when they are on their personal time.
Had Lady GaGa behind my Wife and I while in line at the grocery store. We both bit our tongues. Wasn't aware she was in town to receive and award that week.
      Great song... great lesson.

Finally a video that not only gives a lesson on the solo but also addresses the other guitar in the mix 👍👍🎸🎸

Great song choice👍 Rick Springfield was probably the most interesting artist of the 80's. His hits(many he wrote) were legitimate songs but were a little different sounding for that era i.e. many of his songs didn't have the typical guitar solos we saw in the 80's. Also, the synthesizer work on some of his songs were a big part of the song, but it sounded awesome and was just enough here and there to sound appeasing to the ear.
He was a heart throb for women back then, but actually was a great singer and is a legitimate guitar player who could play, including this guitar solo🎸
He had a number of interesting great songs through out the 80's but Living In Oz was his greatest album, in my opinion. "Souls" and "Affair of the Heart" were the commercial songs that went big from that album but "Tiger by the Tail" and "Motel Eyes" were awesome songs.
Back then, you had to look past the female heart throb and listen to the genius of his songs. Again, some of the songs don't even really have a guitar solo per say, but its just enough guitar that it sounds really good i.e. "Souls" and "Affair of the Heart"
Thank you for breaking this song down. You are the best at what you do and no one does it better😎

One of my favorites to play. Though you missed the very end of this solo. It ends with Neil fretting the second fret of the G string and then sliding it up. Not nitpicking, that's my favorite part of it.

Hey man, thanks! I like to keep things "somewhat" versatile. Aside from all the usual classic hard rock that I've covered, I've also done Tom Petty, Huey Lewis, Carly Simon and boz scaggs. Nothing wrong with a little classic pop rock.

Well done! Saw Rick a few years back and he put on a great show. He was opening for Pat Benatar and Neil. All well worth seeing if you get the chance. Thanks for sharing!

Good one but I'm having trouble with those intro string squeaks, which are in the song, ha ha. Ever have a song you could do before, but just can't get to sound right now? Mine is New England's Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya. Great tune with some nice guitar work.
