Danny Elfman is one of those rare cats that could fall down a flight of stairs with a set of pots and pans strapped to his ass and he'd still make better music than most.
Absolutely. The man is a pure musical genius.
Hear hear!
Paints quite a picture
HAAA HAAAAAHHH!!! God, you're right! He sweats melodies and shits rhythms.
and have a bad ass solo at the end
If it wasn’t for the internet, I would have no idea how fucking cool people were when I was seven.
The 80s were a great time at least it's nice enough to be around it now
True that!
A very underrated band of highly competent musicians. The 1980's was simply a truly great era of popular music of VERY many genres and talents!
Danny Effman is highly regarded as a musical genius.
That back beat is murder
@@universeconsciouscitizensc592 yes and I think that Stewart Copeland the drummer from the Police scored some movies too. If memory serves me correctly which sometimes does not. They played with them on a day on the green in Oakland, CA that’s when I saw them. It was the Police last gig together they broke up right after. Stewart said “thank you we were the Police when the exited and I thought he misspoke but nope.
I say this as a person who lived in Hawaii in the early 90's which was the Ska capital of the world. Are they Ska? Or is the answer kinda or sometimes?
@@monte2115 Not a ska band. Danny Elfman (the guy singing) went on to write very famous movie scores, including the theme song for The Simpsons.
Danny Elfman is simply a musical genius. Film scores to concertos to rock.
Just more proof that ugly redheaded men have to have more talent than other performers, or they'll starve.
Love that he's made millions just off the Simpsons' theme.
The talent required to write these big orchestrations for Oingo were a sign of things to come.
@@steve41557 Wow! After all these years, I didn't know that he wrote the Simpsons theme.
@@steve41557 and he did the theme for Batman
That bassline is absolutely devastating. I can't even wrap my head around it. I'd love to hear it isolated. What a phenomenal song and performance.
They are my favorite band. No matter how sad I am, they always put me in a great mood
I just saw the bass player play with Walter Trout. Bass for days!
It's being played on the keytar
I am so glad I have this memory for those days when I relive them like my crazy grandma did..she was sure she was 18 when she was almost 98. I’ll go back to 18 even if it’s just a dream state. I saw them play then..and so many more leave me watching from my eyes mind..😊😇😇🙏🏼
Sometimes a keyboard bass has advantages
Back when you had to actually have talent to be successful. Danny is not only a gifted musician but he had a great voice. He NAILED that song live....no auto tune....no lipsynch. Back then, you actually had to be very talented to get anywhere. Turned out he found his true calling as a film composer rather than as a band leader. What an amazingly talented man he is.
Thanks grandma and ma for raising me in a household blasting rock n roll when i woke up to school and until I came back from playing outside. *always shut off during dinner* L.o.L
This song sounds completely different live. I honestly prefer it. Danny just absolutely killed it. He’s a master at his craft
YEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, no it does not... it absolutely sounds like a studio album LIVE. And THAT is his genius... he produced perfection in the studio and can REPRODUCE it live at will... don't minimize his genius saying he had to rely on the studio to achieve a masterpiece.
@@imaphysician4512 that’s the thing it sounds too good, it’s a backing track being played-the studio track. I don’t know why they did for this, you can also tell because the drummer is wearing headphones. Check out Halloween 1991 show, it’s just the band playing, you hear how the actual players sound live, it’s a little more raw but it is incredible-that is the beauty of live music
@@donnix1192 - The drummer wearing headphones doesn't mean anything beyond the fact that he probably likes to hear the mix coming through the monitors better...
@@donnix1192 Where do you see anyone miming though? The only thing that I think might be supplemented by pre-recorded tracks are the backing vocals. Everyone else is playing.
It takes real talent to belt out live music like that and still have it sound great. No audio tune or other funky electronics. Oingo Boingo was/is the real deal, no artificial ingredients on this label. Danny has a great voice and the band keeps it popping.
I miss that so much.
What a great time that was to be alive got to experience the two greatest decades in music the 70s and 80s as a young man .
To think the humbling beginnings of The knights of the oingo boingo. From a circus act to billboard hits. Extraordinary
Ive always thought this was one of the tightest bands ever!!!! And that synth bass line is one of the very best.
Yeah.. dude playing hella base on the keytar!
That comment for @kevin Langley.
I think they mixed a standard bass with a Moog and other synth “magic” does sound great!
The bass line makes my loins tingle.
The bass is crazy. A nice delay then when it hits it hits hard and doesn't stop. 11/10 bass performance 😊
Danny, you should NEVER be embarrassed about your days in Oingo Boingo! Great music! Great show!
Why would be? This is perfection!
@@V8AmericanMuscleCar he has said in multiple interviews that the OB days embarrass him. Can't fathom why... OB are brilliant!
@@johnandrews3568 Really? He's so great and the band is the best. Great performance.
That is strange why he would distance himself from those days. After all, look at the company he keeps these days. Creative weirdos like Burton, Depp and Helena Bonham
@@johnandrews3568 , I saw a video in which he said he was embarrassed of the silly very 80s music video he did...but not the music itself. This is one of the greatest songs of the 80s.
Saw Oingo Boing at the Flood Zone in Richmond, VA on May 4, 1990. Standing room only. My newlywed wife and I secured a spot right in front of the stage. One of the best shows I have seen in my life and I am now 57 years old. Still love OB to this day.
The 80's had the best music ever.
Facts 🔥
@mindfornication4funThere were so many genre’s of music at that time compared to now though. So you were bound to find some new band to enjoy.
Yes it did!! And it was fun being in my 20s growing up w
@@FriedPi-mc5yt😊
So true..
To be able to have a great song in your life is an unimaginable feeling, what talent!!
I was 22 at the time of this concert. I was stationed at Fort Hood Texas then. I got a Ticket, just one for myself. Just to hear this one song live. The ticket, hotel stay, airplane ticket round trip was extremely expensive. But very much worth Every Single Dollar I Spent. The show altogether was FanDamnTastic. Thank Goodness to my dad for making me invest 35% of my monthly Army paycheck. I easily was able to afford to spend the money on this event. Great Time and this was the Only Rock Concert I ever went to. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Looks so fun. Wish I could have been there! Just great music and freedom no bs.
Great story. Bet you got tons more, thank you for your service brotha
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest live performances ever recorded. I defy anyone to find a flaw in this.
absolutely true. real musicians. real artists.
generally, the people who are that good, don't get the recognition. It's the ones good at the PR, the game, the image...those are usually the ones who grab the attention.
Band was started by his brother...The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo began as a street theater troupe in Los Angeles, founded by Richard Elfman. The name was inspired by a fictional secret society on the Amos 'n' Andy TV series called The Mystic Knights of the Sea. The earliest version of the band employed as many as 15 performers at any given time, playing over 30 instruments, including some instruments built by band members.
nobody plays with 15 guys because they want fame and money...
@@jonneiss7562 they are definitely underrated, the majority of bands/singers of today could NEVER sound this good live.
Truth!
Truth. The musicianship is so tight, Danny’s vocals are amazing…no flaws

Danny Elfman, a legend, I recently learned about this song and have been absolutely addicted to it. This performance is pure genius!
Same! I had forgotten how GREAT this song was until recently & now I'm addicted to it 😂 💀
This song makes me think of Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School. Sam Kinison (RIP) was also in that movie.
I think of that movie too
Excellent movie! Every time I hear this song I think of back to school as well❤
I think this song sounded best in that movie!
OH, OOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!
A,B,C you’re in the top three what does it matter??!!
Terrific singing...great band - pure enjoyment.
Oingo Boingo was a very tight band ! I saw them in a theatre in Cleveland in the 80's and they were excellent !
Flawless. Not sure how I survive the 80's without knowing this band.
It took me 30+ -years to rediscover Oingo Boingo. This song rocks!
Hell yeah!
I hear ya brother I cannot figure out how I didn't pay any attention to Oingo Boingo in the 80's Or Kid Creole for that matter. And I was aware of them too!
Better late than never. This has been my favourite Halloween song since hearing it in Back to School in ‘86
Rediscover and look up The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo on The Gong Show 😉
Check out his Little Girl song
I first heard this song in the movie "Back to School". It starred Rodney Dangerfield. I saw the movie in real time in the 80's. They played some of it in the movie and I was blown away by the song. Great movie. I can't believe he sang so well live. If I closed my eyes and listened, I would swear it was a studio version.
His voice is extraordinary and of course he's an incredible composer. This is a great song and a great performance all around.
There's nothing that screams 80s music more than the keytar!
Avila was playing bass on that keytar. Hilarious.

Clever song with such a cool theatrical sound. Danny is adorable and has an awesome voice!
have recently fallen down a danny elfman rabbit hole he’s so fascinating to me… only to find out HE sings this song!?!?! A song I’ve heard my parents play their whole lives !?! insanity they definitely have gained another fan oingo boingo is the tits !
2024 and it is still a PARTY
Back to school and back to classic 80's. Great performance!!
Absolutely great ...complex grove...vocally very challenging...really a great performance !!
Danny Elfman one of the legends of Movie Music to this day ....
From 1982 - 1986, I attended F.I.T. They would play in the college constantly. Fond memories . . .
Its always amazed me how you can have so many guys in a band that all show up and know what to play and how to play it. Thats jst the baseline, and then you put together something so well articulated with nuance, feel, emotion and heck you can even dance to it
Yeah, that brunette in the miniskirt was disturbingly hot. Ermahgerd!
I agree I saw the band Live at the Ritz and it's called rehearsing elftmann is amazing check out some Zappa
I'm quite sure they rehearse that's tune at least 100 times if not more
Well thats the whole idea is to do it 100x but make it feel like the first time you’ve heard it
2023 and they remain the definition of a party band!
One of the most underrated New Wave bands of the 80s
Saw them in concert in San Diego in 1989 and they were fantastic. Best live concert I ever saw.

@Skull Knight, You, sir, are an idiot. Back under your rock!
@@leavingitblank9363 no! I’m not going back there
Probably because Danny was so busy doing musical movie scores lol.
Danny is a genius and with encouragement from his friends he became great
Haven't heard this song in ages. Doing it justice live. Great horn section.
Straight talent. Love you Danny ❤️
This is so HOT! The band is really cooking, and the vocals project an eerie vibe 👏👏👏👏
Boingo live is insanely awesome. I’ve sent them six times at at Irvine Amphitheater and they never disappointed. Many members, but so many song that crushed it. I miss them.
So damn good....as I listen at my 69 years...thank you.
Wow. Real music. Not sure how I got here but it's nice
Loved their music in the 80, but this song made a huge impact when I heard it in "Back to School" movie. Great movie, great group and great song. The best era in music and best era in movies, entertainment in general. Brings back great memories.
@photoshoot2022 You might remember the flick "from Dusk till Dawn". The drummer Johnny Vatos is in that movie too. In of his side bands Tito & the Tarantulas. Used to love talking to him about that movie!
The eclectic collections of musicians and instruments are what make most of this video and the music. Pure musicianship at its best!
Loved this song in the movie Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. The 1980’s were the best decade.
Eita música boa , só quem gosta desse clássico vai curtir em 2024 👏🏾👍🏾💖

Watching loving and listening to this performance does anybody else have the sudden urge to go and rewatch weird science. 😎
Kelly LeBrock....mmmmmmmm.... ;)
Absolutely! I saw them at SDSU outdoor amphitheater on Halloween. There was a full horn section dressed in black. You couldn't see them until they played, then only the bones showed. They were fucking skeletons playing dead mans party on Halloween! Yeeaaah!

I grew up on this (oingo boingo) in the background of so many things as a child of the 80's....finally appreciating the hell out of this performance at 40...lol
Ah the rockin' music from the wonderful decade of the '80s. I love it!
I cannot even imagine the thrill of seeing this group live ... they are so amazing!
Best Halloween song ever!
Wow. One of my biggest regrets in life was never seeing this band live. This is amazing, truly. Hearing all the coordination, the perfect timing, the harmonizing, how it all comes together to create such a sound. Personally, I put OB right up there with the Talking Heads for a live performance.
my 2 favorite bands of all-time…….with Tom Petty running a close 3rd
I’d never heard of Oingo Boingo when my buddy bought us tickets to see them at The Oz Of Monterey in 1982.
Some weirdo announced to the long line for the men’s room that, “if I don’t get in there, there won’t be a concert”.
Later I realized that jerk was Danny Elfman.
Best concert I’ve ever attended. Been a fan ever since.
I saw them live during this tour about a month after this was filmed. This still stands as the best concert I've ever been to.
@@thethresh This is the musical equivalent of the best Mexican food: all these extreme, strong flavors that stand out alone, yet come together to make a delicious, harmonious whole.
There is a cover band in California called Dead Man's Party that does aplenty good job imitating them.

This one of those bands that absolutely has to be seen live to truly appreciate the talent. There's alot going on.

I can honestly say this song is my favorite song of all time. I got my first radio when I was five years old back in the 70s so I have been listening to music for a long time, and all types of music from every genre, and this song is the song I am always playing and listening to more than any other. If I were stuck on a desert island and told I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, it would be this song. It has everything! Sheer Perfection!
Saw them live twice late 80s early 90s probably the cleanest shows of any group i have ever seen
I've been looking for the name of this band forever I remember the song from back to school that 80s movie with Rodney Dangerfield good stuff these guys are crazy good live I miss bands like this that don't need auto tuning and all kinds of stuff to sound good like the musicians now
This song is such a banger
When this sing was played in Dangerfields ‘Back to School’ I lost my $hit! Mind blowing.
I can't stop playing this song.
How many times have you watched this?

Great song, better voice. Wonderful band with so much energy in this song. There are so many great comments and stories in the comments from around the US and internationally, too. Great way to show the impact and energy of this band.
What a great band! And a hoot! I first saw them at UC Irvine back around 1978. They showed up playing and sauntering up over the hills on the campus green to the stage. It was like an alien invasion... but with much better music and nobody died or was disintegrated. They seemed like they were enjoying themselves as much as the crowd.
