Good evening! I hope you're all well - and I'd like to say a very big thank you for over 4,990 subscribers! We're very nearly at a major milestone, so if you're enjoying these walks around the country, do subscribe to help us reach 5,000!
Now for some bonus info on Seaton Carew, which has a rather peculiar name. The 'Seaton' bit is fairly self-explanatory, as a 'settlement by the sea', but what about the 'Carew' bit? Well, that goes back to the 12th century, when the area came under the ownership of a baron named Robert de Carrowe. The name Seaton Carrowe was born, and over the centuries, the second part of the name has been corrupted and warped to how it is today :)

What an amazing video! I live in Hartlepool and must have been to Seaton hundreds of times but I ain’t it strange how little you can pay attention to a place you are familiar with.
This has given me a new found appreciation of my local area so thank you so much for that!
Love the channel and keep up the great work
Ps. I will use that fact about the curved concrete on the bus station for the rest of my life haha 👌

Unbelievable! The 'Norton Hotel', Is 1 The Green'. In 1965: I lived in a bedsit in that very building! Brilliant memories...Also, my old pal: Ken Tyzack is laid to rest in that churchyard! Thank you.

Back in 1960-1 our Mum and Gran would send my brother and me down to SC, very early in the morning, to book a chalet for the day at a cost of 2 shillings. We would walk over the 1/4 mile bridge, over some kind of industrial site, from West Hartlepool. They would join us later, coming in on the bus into the bus station. Then we would buy a big teapot of tea for sixpence, and fish and chips for a shilling and then sit in the chalet having our lunch. Very happy childhood memories. We didn't have much back then, and now I'm a lot older. I now live just outside of Los Angeles in the USA but wouldn't change those childhood memories for anything!!

so many happy memories at Seaton, on our away days from Stockton during the late 50's early 60's We would get the train from Stockton to Seaton spend the day on the beach with our sandwiches and bottles of pop, and then back home on the train.

Oh my goodness I’m loving your north east discovery walks Seaton Carew is so lovely.
So many beautiful little towns and villages in the north generally. It’s nice that you are concentrating on the positive.
So much mainstream news is negative trumpeting about “the worst place to live/ drugs/crime” etc.
You are doing a great job 😊🌸🌺

I've just booked a super-cheap train ticket from Newcastle to Seaton Carew (for £1) and another from Hartlepool back to Newcastle (also £1) and I am wondering whether there is a seaside walk all the way up the coast.

We had to go to Hartlepool today so stopped at Seaton on the way home, not the best weather but it was dry and not too cold. We had to get fish and chips then sit overlooking the sea to eat them, a walk along the front back to the car.

Another well presented walkabout of a familiar location, not that I've been for many a year. It does look as though it is very well cared for. Might not be as popular as the larger spots such as Scarborough and Whitby, even Saltburn, but it does have a beautiful shoreline. And the seafront homes around the green appear well maintained, a prime location I'd say. Folk always enjoy an arcade and fish n chips on the seafront. And one of the few sounds which can send me off to sleep is the sea crashing onto the shore. It's not as if there's any real naval association in my family history, apart from an uncle who was lost at sea when the ship he was on was sunk in WW2, he was just 19! I just seem to feel an affinity with the sea. Thanks for this, always appreciated.

Ha ha - I think there really is something special about the sea that captures everyone's imagination in some unique way!
