Been ice fishing over 50 years, I'm Canadian and and have fished some cold stuff, Northam Ontario, Labrador etc... You channel is about as real as it gets' I have scoured youtube for ice fishing videos and seen 100's, none as good as yours. Keep on keeping it real brother. I enjoy your stuff.
JOE: You are a warrior!! Your experience / vid sent shivers up my spine... Same thing happened to me in the U.P. Was ice camping when snow storm came in. Overpressure from snow forced water up through the holes / flooded shanty with foot or more of water. Took me over 12 hours to get off the lake. White out... My piece of junk sled kept getting mired in slush. Took three trips to get everything out. Sadly, I could not retrieve the shanty. It eventually froze into the ice on the outside. So last year, I purchased a new SkiDo Expedition with 900 Ace / Long & Wide Track. Four Stroke. Been through some crazy shit with that sled and NO getting stuck. Thanks Brother... Keep Safe!
Love your video I am 71 years young lady and never went fish camping You have given a good example of what I do in a dangerous situation and the importance of not panicking.Good job thank You very much.👍👍👍
Best, not only ice fishing, but any video I have seen in youtube. You’re dedication to keeping the film going is incredible. Well done. Loved it. Glad you made it out okay. I know it feels awfully lonely once you get stuck middle of nowhere. Keep the sled on a stand or a stump overnight and clear the track by running it for a second while its up was what we always did. Saves a frozen track in the mornin
Just something that might help as long as there's trees around. tree bows work pretty good. To keep your machine back on top the snow, if you end up in a pickle . I stopped for a brook on a powerline, it had flooded i didnt exspect almost 30 extra feet wide . I new it was their but couldn't see it" fresh snow. got off my sled made two steps , fell through the snow. Water below the snow was waist deep. my face level whith the seat of my snowmobile . It. was just floating on snow, made my way to dry land wet cold an buy myself , I layed chrismas tree bows downn in front of the sled an crossed my fingers. It worked an worked good . I dont break trail buy myself anymore. I know if I hadn't done that I would have sunk the snow machine. But as soon as the track grabbed the first bow I felt instant traction. All was good the extra time doing it saved me.. be safe, good video also the bows kept me on top the snow to make my way to my sled whithout punching holes all over making matters worse. but it worked. me an sled made it home to tell aboat it.. be safe out their. Maybe itll help in a slushy situation.
We get that here in Michigan. When the ice isn't super thick, then you get a heavy snow, the snow weighs down the ice and forces water through making the snow slushy
Great advice. It is ok to be anxious or even scared but just don't panic. Calm yourself down and think about your next move then proceed with that task.
My stress level was going way up. Especially being way out and alone. I've had close crappinstace while near humanity and that wasn't fun! Good going Joe, Keeping your head about you. Enjoy your adventures. Christopher from Minnesota
Again awesome video, even though you were in trouble. You handled the situation very well. I enjoyed what you did without panicking, and how you explained what you were going to do. Again be safe and tight lines.
That was 1 heck of a time!! Lot of work in short time! With all that walking an shoveling an digging. That was a lot of work. Glade you made it out. You had a lot of great advice in both video's. Part 1&2 were very great an fun to watch. Wish you a GREAT TIME NEXT TIME OUT. Thank You!!
Great job dealing with adversity. I recently re-read To Build a Fire by Jack London and your vid reminded me of how important it is to stay calm when things go to hell.
Whoa, what a lesson for someone new to the North like me. This was an incredibly helpful video. (Even placing the note on your side window as opposed to the windshield) Thanks for posting. Glad it all ended well.
What a cliff hanger! I was just about to hit the hay and I started watching this. I had to stay up till the end. Sure glad ya made it out ok, what an adventure!
Great video! I Ice fish alone often can be trying at times. Impressive you had all that on your plate and still manage to keep filming. My hats off to you!
Good video’s. Here’s a tip. I have an Eskimo shack. I put in a hockey bag zipper the size of the bag. Makes it much easier to get the shack packed up 👍
Wow. Very impressive staying out there during that storm. I was staying at macannamac on haymock and fishing on eagle wednesday- Monday. Couldn't imagine staying on the lake! The slush was horrible there aswell. Tight lines!
Wow I did the same thing on my first solo trip, put my foot right through the slush on Rangeley Lake. Got my sled stuck too. Set up camp and dried my stuff with my ti wood stove. Battled and struggled but made it. Excellent snowmobile knowledge, dropping the tow system and packing trail and testing terrain without it and coming back when all set up. Smart for a beginner! 😊❤️🇺🇸☃️❄️🛷⛺️🌄
Slush is why I never camp on the ice in those small wilderness lakes. If I can't find a decent spot along the shore, I will put the tent on the ice right next to the shore. I like the access to firewood for the hot tent since I don't like using propane and I can relax, knowink the lake won't come up for a visit while I sleep. Also nice to have a big roaring outdoor fire to cook and warm up by. Glad the weather didn't turn cold suddenly. Your gear may have been frozen there until spring ;)
Ya snowmobiling comes with more challenges..the people think..when you use them more then a weekend ride...you did well..I've been in that situation..snowed in on the lake for 37 hours...had to his make a run off the ice and come back and get the rest of my gear..never underestimate mother nature..thanks for the vid..
Same thing happened on red lake in northern Minnesota last year only there were hundreds of big wheel houses out there in a foot of slush took over a week to get them all out just riding out the storm things change fast thats forsure
I get it Dale... I just posted a similar comment few min ago. Got stranded in storm in U.P. Joe did a hell-of-a job helping us to feel the HELL he experienced. Nonetheless, no one can possibly understand the misery involved unless they are out there.
Great video big Joe glad you made it out okay i love the fact you have some morals about the fish and game laws a lot of people dont these days if they think no one is watching i am a new sub keep up the great videos have a nice day be safe stay warm.
Hay Joe this is Tom from Michigan! Just a thought on your coffee, try getting some of those 4 cup coffee maker filters and put them in your strainer should eliminate all grounds in your coffee!
Joe love the videos! Will be my first time ice camping this year. Subbed. I'll be watching more for sure. Love seeing vids from different parts of USA.
Carry a pair of Muck boots, they are the best in overflow I have been caught in overflow a few times and the last time it was in the -50 when we had left in early morning The water is going to get right up the surface of the snow and it will freeze solid down to the existing ice You worked very hard and did some very good videos, you are a real ice fisherman
Chalk that one up for experience my friend you definitely have it those shitbird of a day makes us much stronger Joe I got to say not seeing anyone and catching fish species that you never caught before in a way back place makes me envious but I'm not envious of you getting wet and all that on the lake LOL been there knows what it feels fishing on brother
Great video, you experience my biggest fear when out ice fishing by yourself. I think the biggest thing is to calm down and work through all your problems one at a time. Would be nice to see your follow up video with some of your lessons learned from the whole trip. What not to bring and what to bring

Great video as always. Wondering if you take a first aid kit with you and specifically a tourniquet and blood stop aka coagulant? Just seems like a small space set of items for big amounts of safety. Again awesome video, really enjoy them.
I do take some first aid stuff. And have always had a fully double punched leather belt but a tourniquet makes much more sense on so many levels. Thanks for the tip. I’m picking a couple up,!
Hate that slush monster. I use my snow shoes to stay up on top of snow slush. I run an ATV with tracks & slush scares me. I can’t wait to do some over night trips this winter.
In deep snow conditions on a lake, it is common for the water to flow out of any ice fishing holes. Fish there once then leave it! The next day good chance of unfishable ice due to slush. Let it freeze by doing loops day before you stop to fish. Try a new spot next day is best.
I’ve only had to resort to eating a illegal fish once it was 10 plus years ago and I still regret it as about two hours later I was off the water and safe but at the time I thought I would be stranded longer so I guess I just got to move on
“It’s okay to be scared or worried but not panic “ wise words to live by for an outdoorsman
So true thank you

Loved the survival tips and methods . "Keep your head is the most important".
So important
Great positivity through adversity, key to dealing with unfavorable situations.
Thank you
@@JoeHollandFishing I ll have to check out your ice cream shop when I’m fishing on Webber pond this summer
Would love that, Damariscotta lake is a stones throw away .

Alot of people dont understand how hard it is to do what you did! Good for you brotha!! Glad you made the video!
Greatly appreciated, thank you.
Learned some things by watching your video. I would never have thought that that slush would would be under all of that snow. Glad you made it out OK.
Thanks buddy me too

Thank you, greatly appreciated.
My back is aching just thinking about the work you did..wow
Thank you.
Pretty much sums up Northern Maine. Awesome fish, beautiful scenery, lack of people, slush, wind and unpredictable weather!! Looks like a good trip.
Thanks bud, you nailed it.
Yessah!!
I watched both videos on the trip. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.
Awesome thank you
Good job getting out, now you have a good story to tell as you get older.

Nice job, man! Good to see you on the hard water, its always a little bit of a roll of the dice when you hit the backcountry. Really nicely done.
Thanks bud, good days in the north country are great.

All that weight of the snow pushes the water up.
Carry a pair of Muck boots, they are the best in overflow

awesome vid man..that snow weight definitely would have freaked me out..hate the slush lol
Thank you, I’m paranoid about slush after this trip. Was a big learning experience.
@@JoeHollandFishing yeah man.. Really enjoyed the vid.. And subbed.. Look forward to more.
I applaud your efforts. But I may have bailed on this trip just to avoid all the slush and deep snow nightmare.
Thank you, good call.

Would be nice to see your follow up video with some of your lessons learned from the whole trip. What not to bring and what to bring

Thanks bud.
Cool video, it's happened to me, your a big dude, get yourself a bigger more powerful machine...power and track is key. Good stuff
Definitely planning a huge upgrade for next year, thanks.
Thankyou for the ViD, Nice Work
Thank you!
Slush like this. Time to go. Good call.
I can see a real problem if the slush and water freezes and locks all the gear in for the rest of the season.
9:47 Best alarm clock ever! haha
Such a great sound. Thanks for tuning in!
I've been stuck in the slush . Not fun! Good way to show some ice safety
Thank you
Gives you a lot of appreciation of the mountain men trappers that trapped in Canada in the 1800’s and spent months alone in the wilderness.
Absolutely. Back when I was tougher I used to trap this area for three months every year. The laws have become crazy restrictive now because of the lawsuits surrounding the lynx population.
wow you got some serious snow, glad that 380 was able to muster enough power to get you out, you were probably at the limits of what that engine can do
My only recommendation would be a lantern to get more light in the video. It was hard to see at night when you were in the tent. Good job though otherwise! Way to put some fish on top of the ice! Gives me motivation to do this same thing myself.
Great job I know about 5he slush here in the u.p. of Michigan
Even Ernest Shackleton might tell you that situation was bad. Good show though.
Thank you
We use to catch 3-4-5-8lb whitefish up on chamberlain as a kid, which where ur at looks familiar. Use to be able to keep 8 apiece I believe. Nowadays I hear there pretty scarce.
Yeah there seems to be a lot of them under 16 inches in the 12 inch or less range. The new limit is 16 inch on the chain.
Those.where.herring not whitefish... Great video had heater die on us this year while sleeping had frost 4 feet up in the tent. zippers.froze.on us ...
I think I would have just left my stuff there!!! 😂😂
That was actually an option.
Great job keeping a clear head and staying calm! I am very interested in the hitch system you made. Will you be making a video on it by chance?
Thank you, yes I will shoot a video on it for sure.
Great I look forward to seeing that video and others. Maybe next year you might like to come to NH and do some lake trout fishing with us. I set my personal best This year with a 16lb 34” long

Thanks, the video stuff adds a lot to it and camping stuff then fishing stuff too.
Been there done that. I got caught in that same situation many years ago. I know your pain
Super learning experience
Do you think a 4 wheeler with 4 Trax on it be easier to get through all the slush? Awesome videos. Thank you
It all depends on the clearance. A lot of the northern lakes in the north Maine woods don’t allow wheelers.
I’ve only had to resort to eating a illegal fish once it was 10 plus years ago and I still regret it as about two hours later I was off the water and safe but at the time I thought I would be stranded longer so I guess I just got to move on
