I think this is the first time I've ever heard Tuba Skinny do this song. I like it. I've heard Molly Reeves play 6 string banjo before and no doubt she knows how.

Molly is great! Love her guitar work, and singing. Also fine "front-person" for various bands

Thanks Dave, since I won't be going to French Quarter Festival this year I needed to make trip over to record. I hope to make one more before FQF to record the band on Royal Street.

Thanks, James, for being there and filming this so well. What a jaunty and intriguing piece it is. It would be great to see the printed music. In the absence of that, it seems to me (and I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong) to have three themes, each of 16 bars (measures). The first (00:06 - 00:28) sounds as though it's in the key of G minor. The second theme, with that descending pattern (00:29 - 00:51), seems to be in the key of G major. The third theme - the one in which most of the band hold long notes while interesting things happen (00:42 - 01:14) seems to be in the key of C. This theme allows for a break in Bar 4 (Molly smiles because - by mistake, I think - she and Todd both play it); and in the 8th bar the trombone and tuba play three notes 'lifting' the melody on to a weird chord (01:02). At 01:14, Craig improvises on the third theme. At 01:37, Barnabus improvises on it. At 02:01 - 02:22, Shaye plays her improvisation on it. For me, this is the highlight of the performance. She produces an amazingly fluent and interesting melodic line, totally unfazed by the weird chord sequence. No wonder jazz fans all over the world admire her so much. After her solo, she signals the whole band to join her in an ensemble version of this third theme. Finally, at 02:43, with that familiar hand-on-head signal, she directs the band to go back to the beginning and play the first theme again. They do so (02:47 - 03:09) and then they play the second theme twice to finish. I wonder whether one of them (?Shaye) got the music for this by working the whole thing out by ear. I note that Andy Schumm played this piece in May last year and he seemed to have full written parts for every member of his band, so possibly there are some in circulation.

RaulDuke504 Recently put out a video of the band doing Ellington's ''Take it Easy'' from 1928.. I don't believe there is another trad jazz band out there that can come close to Tuba Skinny in interpreting these classics. After following this band for over 6 years I am still in awe of their talents................................

@@brendamello2202 As you know, I am also 'in awe'! With regard to 'Take it Easy' (which is not such a difficult piece), Ewan Bleach and His Band were playing this in London almost a year ago. All members of his band had the sheet music on stands in front of them. As Ewan is a friend and occasional member of Tuba Skinny, I wonder whether he put them on to it and even emailed them photo-scans of the music? In RaoulDuke504's video, Craig clearly had the sheet music on his knee.
