I just tasted this recipe after it cooked for the last six hours. I also added Worchestire, and 2x the garlic. Excellent meal. This will be made again, and again. Well done Cooking with Shotgun Red.
I made this today. Instead of the oregano I put some ginger and just a touch of sesame oil to make it an Asian version. Oh yum!! Thanks for the great recipe!!
There are so many cooking videos on youtube, not to mention cable and streaming services. But few are as entertaining as Cooking with Shotgun Red thanks to Steve Hall and Miss Sheila. Steve was so down to earth and his recipes are fantastic and you were a great producer. I hope you are doing well and thriving. Every dish I have cooked based on his recipes has met with great approval from my family and friends. And some of them are not easily impressed.
Made this for dinner tonight. Great recipe. Instead of potatoes I put fresh pineapple and I added a splash of cooking sherry, and rice wine vinegar. Kinda gave it an oriental flare. Then after it was done i thickened the sauce w/ a cornstarch slurry and served it with rice.
Original recipe sounds so good, but your idea sounds wonderful also. Thanks for sharing your variation. I AM GOING TO TRY BOTH ! I have wanted to do more with the crockpot, and I am happy to find there recipes.
Thank you for sharing this Wonderful recipe. I loved it. I also tried your cabbage steaks a few weeks ago and they turned out wonderfully as well. You were the voice of good down home cooking and you will be sorely missed. What a talented man you were.
Man, I've never been so happy to find these recipes. I feel like Steve made me apart of his family, and then I learned of his passing. He sure seemed to love Miss Sheila. Thank you for continuing on with the channel. :)
I made this tonight for dinner it was soooooo easy and a big hit with my boys 😀 I had all ingredients in the house and didn’t have to fuss with it thank you 🙏
@Nicks !! Best known as the creator of the popular TNN-TV cowboy puppet Shotgun Red, Hall died at age 64 on Dec. 29, 2018. He and his puppet were regulars on TNN's flagship series Nashville Now in 1983-1993.
Yum. Thanks for sharing. Just a note: I have the same crock pot and my instruction booklet says not to clamp the sides during cooking. I'm a first time viewer and can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks again.
Glad you like this channel and subscribed. Unfortunately Steve passed away December 29th 2018. When he passed he had made 307 recipes for this channel. So you have a lot to watch!❤️. shotgunned.com
I love Shot Gun’s cooking shows. I miss him so much. Tomorrow I am making the Honey Garlic chicken. God bless you Shiela. I am doing his barbecue sauce this weekend.
I enjoy his videos. Sad to know he has passed. I own a crock pot liked that and you never put the locks on when its cooking. They are only to be used when transporting the crockpot.
Made this today and a pot of rice added more water for more sauce/ and just used little red potatoes instead of slicing big ones and used brags amino instead of soy sauce... everyone claimed they liked it and everyone was in the clean plate club.
This sounds awesome, I’ll have to give it a try. I’m wondering how sticky that honey was though, is it better to use cooking spray or a liner for this recipe?
What I would have done( I do not like chicken bones ) is put the thawed chicken into the slow cooker the night before with just enough water to cover the bottom of the slow cooker, and let the chicken cook all night. At dawn, I would put the cooked chicken into a plastic bowl with a lid, and place the chicken stock into another bowl covered with a lid. I would then let both cool on the counter for a while before placing them both into the refrigerator to further cool. Prep everything else that is going into the slow cooker, and then remove all the chicken meat from the bones. Then, I would cut the chicken meat into smaller pieces. Just before I place the chicken stock into the slow cooker, I would remove any chicken grease that is floating on the top. Then place all the ingredients into the slow cooker along with the sauce and chicken stock, and then let it cook for as long as you need. Because the chicken is already cooked, preheat the slow cooker on high, and then set to low as needed. The veggies are really the only thing that needs to cook right now. Cook some rice, and ( what I do ) mix the cooked and strained rice into a large bowl along with the cooked ingredients from the slow cooker. Put some into a bowl for your meal; cover the bowl; and then place the rest into the refrigerator for leftovers. If you want to freeze some for later in the month, then do so after the meal has thoroughly cooled. By letting the meal cool overnight, it will taste better for lunch/supper the day after you first cooked it. It's all good when the flavor of all the ingredients mixes together overnight. My grandfather's gumbo tasted better the day after he cooked it when doing this. Always remember, a recipe is just a thought written on paper. A good cook always takes that recipe, and improves upon it by experimenting with different flavors, ingredients, and cooking times. Good experimenting, and good eating.
I'm kinda new to crock-pot cooking but always seem to end up with too much liquid! What did you do with the liquid you had left in the pot, it must be full of flavour
Now I know why my cooking dried out and burned! I live at high altitude, where water boils not at the usual 212 Farenheit but at a lower 196 Fahrenheit. So alll the water evaporated and left the dutch oven because it is designed with 3 very little bumps on the pot border, which keep the lid a tiny fraction of an inch above the edge of the pot, the All Clad cast iron cooker, from Williams Sonoma. Bogotá, Colombia, S.America, 8300 ft high. That being so, I should only use slow cook -low setting, not high as your recipe calls for. Thanks!
Carlos sorry to hear that it burned. I learned to use a vegetable spray like Pam inside the crock pot. Also I put some cut up veggies like celery and carrots cabbage at the bottom of pot then put the meat on top of them. The vegetables add some needed liquid as well. You have to play around with the ratios as you see in Steve’s video.
well I followed all your steps I did everything you told us to do step-by-step and then I'm going to see at 11 tonight if it's good and it should be good
@@CookingwithShotgunRed I did! My husband loved it, the chicken was so tender and the sauce paired amazing with white rice. It was easy to make and honestly, it will likely be a staple in our household. Thank you for sharing the recipe. :)

I did cook this for supper per your instructions. It was quick & easy, it was OK but a little *too sweet* for our taste.
I bought some honey garlic butter sauce on Amazon so I’ll use that. I will add some soy though. And the herbs I’ll add. Sounds good .👌

Cooking spray is good
Great tip with honey
Maybe for those look'n for a sauce...a bit of corn starch in the liquid mix to thicken it a tad...good for bread and butter and them taters.

May I ask what size crockpot this is? Thanks it looks delicious.
6 qts
Instead of white potatoes I used sweet potatoes. Less soy sauce and more onions. I was delicious.

You mentioned red russets, I've never heard of a red russet potato. Where did you find those?
Tennessee, Alabama and may be some other states
