Darren watched all of your videos and found them very informative. Your knowledge of Lightburn is impressive for such a short time using it. What you know about photo processing is bringing an entirely different prospective to laser engraving. I would like to thank you for the hard work put in to making these videos and look forward to watching and learning much more from them. One other comment, the quality of the videos and audio is outstanding.
Thanks for watching Burt - I reckon the benefit of understanding how to do it means you can create any number of custom waste grids depending on the application 👍
Darren just subscribed to your channel , your video was easy to watch and very informative. I am brand new to the hobby and learning everything I can , Thanks
Thanks Darren, love your style I am getting my first diode laser next week and am binging many videos before hand and so far yours are in the top two and the only competition is that the other guy has about 100 videos so far except for that there not even daylight between your clear style and helpful tips! Keep up the good work mate! Can't wait to see more.
Thank you for the kind words - very much appreciated. I was at your stage only a couple of months ago myself - it is super exciting though and I’m sure you’ll love it when it finally arrives. I did the same thing you are doing and soaking up as much information as I could 🙂
LOVE YOUR VIDEO and you style of teaching, easy to follw... my questions is i created my first vertial line and used the grid as you instructed, my first line is on the 10 / 10 mark perfect but when i go to creat the other 38 lines they slightly begin to shift right by the time i hit the 39th line, its off by 30%.. what did i do wrong?
Nice tutorial Darren, or it would have been if I was called Einstein. I am far from computer literate mate, so I understood very little of the subject you have been explaining. Although the grid you created was first class buddy. In my case I will have to have a look online for something similar and download a file. Thanks again for your tutorials, I am learning from most of them mate.
Hey Russell - I do appreciate you taking the time to check out my videos - it all starts with small steps - if you pause the video at each step it m confident you can make it work 👍
Darren.... Thank you so much! I did it! (Only with your help!) The numbering was a little tricky for me. I think this will be a big help for me!! Are you in Australia? We have a friend that lives in Perth / Manjimup family.
Awesome Linda - Great to hear you got it working for you - yes, I am in Australia - I'm on the east coast of Australia, Sunshine Coast in Queensland - look it up - it's a beautiful spot to live :)
this works perfectly when you have a laser machine that is perfectly square 400x400 is ideal; everything lines up fine, but when you have a bed size that is 400x430 in my case, nothing works. i am trying to follow along with your video but my grid is all off.
Thank you Darren for explaining in detail how to make wasteboard grid, array & CSV is great idea. I am using Inkscape for design and LaserGrbl for engraving the grid on MDF, in Inkscape how much should I set the stroke width for the lines on the gird (not sure whats the minimum in mm) for engraving with LM2 pro 10A?
Hey Abu Sam - glad you found it helpful - I'm not all that familiar with Inkscape however in reality you only need 1 pixel width for the stroke as you are engraving a line, not trying to "fill" the line - hope that helps :)
Daren, I am an OG(75) and started using Lghtburn for less than a year and have not seen a video like this one. Your presentation skills are outstanding. I enjoy the way you present a lesson. Thanks. BTW would you share your file?
Hi Michael - thank you for watching and your generous praise - as for the file - I might be being a little cheeky - but the video runs through creating the file yourself 😁 - I have every confidence that you will be able to make it yourself - keep me posted
This was great. One question though - When I do the numbers and load my CSV file and I hit Preview or Bake, I get a bunch of ";" after. So it looks liks 10;;;; 20;;;;; etc.. Any idea why?
Great videos. Thanks Darren. I just can’t understand why you make your scale start at 10mm rather than 0mm. Hope you will explain in Part II what I have missed.
Hey there that is a valid question - I wanted to add the labels on the outside of the grid - if I started at 0mm I would not have space outside the grid as the maximum work area is 400mm x 400mm - does that makes sense?
@@mrcraftsmith Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, that makes perfect sense. I am thinking of moving my labelling inside the grid, using thicker lines every 5 cm (once I worked out HOW). I also want to fix some kind of hard stop in that 0/0 corner to push the material against and then figure out a way to clamp objects down to the wasteboard (maybe something with inlaid nuts). Since I working with a moving bed I worry things might slide around at faster speeds.
Hi Darren, since you've posted the video, have you updated to the last version of lightburn 1.4.04? The snapping to grid doesn't seems to work for me, it won't snap to the grid at all while holding ctrl, or alt as mention in the documentation, just wondering if it's the same for you?
I haven't updated to that version yet - and am about to head away on a break for 5 weeks - something for me to look at in the new year - thanks for the heads up
@@mrcraftsmith posted the issue on lightburn forum, tried again the next day after trying to debug it for a few hours and it just worked... Don't know why, probably a random bug ^^ enjoy the time off! Cheers
Hi Darren, thank you for the amazing videos, I'm learning a lot! I'm trying to make the grid but I got stuck when drawing the first line, I followed step by step but everytime I draw the line it shows Width: 1.644, so when I array, at the line 33 it shows all the grid full, but it doesn't match the grid lines. When I try to put a 0 in width, the line disappears. Could you help me realize what I'm doing wrong? Also, I have the extension kit, so I used 830 for height. Thanks!!
Hi Daniel - I’m away on location for a live stream event we are producing - do you mind if I have a look at this early next week when I get home - in the meantime perhaps do a screen recording of what you are experiencing and I’ll take a look
Hi @@mrcraftsmith , sorry for the delay, I started the project from scratch and I managed to do the grid! I’m still finishing but had to travel. Thank you for all these helpful videos!
Thanks, follow the steps EXACTLY or you are screwed!@ I kept forgetting to highlight the numbers! BYW.... you can just space your rows by 10mm instead of stretching them later!
@@mrcraftsmith I figured that bit out very early this AM when I took another shot at it. Thank you. :) I need to make my grid a little bigger but I get it now. Thanks again.

Hey there Malcolm - I really appreciate the kind feedback - thank you - I’m happy to share my knowledge with others as I learn more about this craft.
You are a master at this. Will have to watch it a couple of times over😊Very concise and to the point.Thanx
I’m happy to share what I learn Flash - if I left it too long in my head it would end up in the abyss 😀
Like the video Darren - will have to look at it a few more times and then try an engrave or two

Just out of interest, any reason you can not create it yourself following my example?

If you put Text into Line instead of fill, it will be much faster, it will do the same way but will do lot faster
Depends on the font used - I prefer fill over line which just gives an outline

Light burn will not let me save anything like this to it. Says I am not authorized. Even though I paid for program.
