In College, one of my large football playing friends sat in the back seat on the passenger side and caused the battery to arc. It was not good, but no damage, thankfully. Later, I bought a plastic cover to prevent that from happening again. Great video Chris. You do great work. Cheers!

I do from time to time yeah. In my latest vlogs and such I do keep folks updated on the status of the parts quality today.

Chris that seat rail tilting the Drivers seat into the older Beetles was for the guys that really liked to Drink heavy if the door popped open the Driver didn’t fall out as easy this was Brilliant Engineering in those old days before not only Seat Belt Laws but before Seat Belts were standard in most cars my Dad bought brand new 58, 63, and 68:VW Beetles i grew up riding around in the back of those Bugs and i used to nap on the rear Package Shelf ! my Mom has memories of when we were young kids we were always made to wear our Seatbelts and i laugh because my Dad was proud as hell that in a 67 FastbackMustang he owned he was able to click the Drivers seatbelt under the seat so that Stupid buzzer wouldn’t buzz he also had a 69 Pontiac that he cut the Seat belts completely out of the car i know because in the early 1980s i bought a Jeep and the factory rear seat didn’t have a seatbelt which i later needed for my Daughters Car Seat i mentioned that to my Dad and he still had the Pontiac seatbelts in our Garage they didn’t work for me because he cut the part off that bolted to the Floorboard i did order a Set fromJeep FYI i bought the Vehiclevfrom a Car Lot and at the time i purchased it i didn’t realize that seat was a Aftermarket one somebody installed not a Factory or Dealer Installed one so i concluded someone just wanted to save the extra money
My theory on the taller seat track is to try and give a little more clearance against the steering wheel when tilting the seat forward to allow rear passenger to pass through.

I’ve had nothing but great cs from them had a couple incorrect parts shipped due to transposed numbers or something like a switched number like part 1134 and got a 1143 replacement parts always shipped fast and no charge

I think it just moves you away from hitting the door.
Is there a difference in strength by punching holes and 'spot' welding vs tacking the pans in like you do?
Yes we do the "plug" weld too, and yes that would be a bit stronger, followed up by a "Butt" weld.

They probably will, but the curve in the back on a 55 pan is not as deep as the 56 and later pans, putting the battery position in the wrong spot, it will probably interfere with the rear bench seat.
Can I use 1972 pans on my 68 dune buggy project I'm going to be shorting 12 to 15" . Thanks Mike

check with karmann ghia restoration or airheadparts or cip1.com or jbugs.com or socalimports. Google is your friend for that.
Hi Chris. I'd like to know your opinion. I am restoring my 1953 standard sunroof bug. I had the floor pans replaced with Wolfsburg West (WW) pans which are advertised as 1955 and earlier. I had the whole pan powder coated. After watching your video, you educated me on the pan differences. It turns out that the WW pans are NOT 1955 and earlier. I have spent a lot of money getting the pan halves installed and I have spent a lot of time building the pan (emergency brake, pedal assembly, cable brake assembly, etc.). My concern is that the back seat will hit the battery like you state in your video. So, what do you suggest? Have my pan redone with the right pan halves (big expense), try to modify the seat bottom, or ? Thanks for your help.
I would set the correct position up for the battery on the pan and mark it on the pan. Then maybe fabricate a hold down plate from there.
@@classicvwbugs Thanks for getting back to me. So what you are saying is move the battery forward so it doesn't hit the back seat springs? The problem is the battery strap hook is in the way. Do you know for a fact that the back seat springs will hit the battery? I wish it was easy to put the body on and test it.

I have bought new pans for my beetle and they came with the seat rails already welded in pace. Beetle is a 1960 type 2
Yes that is correct, for a 1960 no problem, but for these 55 and earlier, they do not.
Beetles and Karmann Ghias are Type I, Buses are Type 2, Fastback, Squareback and Notchback are Type 3s and 411 and 412 and modern Buses are Type 4.
@@vayabroder729 Ghia is not type 1, a ghia is a ghia. Type 1 is beetle only.
@@classicvwbugs Aren’t Ghias called Type 14’s? Many Ghia part numbers from the factory start with 114; many on the Beetle start with 111. Have you noticed this?
@@vayabroder729 You are correct my friend! =) thanks for clarifying. original looking ghia is type 14, and the other ghia that was on the type 3 chassis, was called a Type 34.
