    Thanks for Watching...
Salvador Dalí was born on May 11, 1904, in the town of Figueres, in the Empordà region, close to the French border in Catalonia, Spain. Dalí's older brother, also named Salvador (born October 12, 1901), had died of gastroenteritis nine months earlier, on August 1, 1903. His father, Salvador Dalí i Cusí, was a middle-class lawyer and notary whose strict disciplinary approach was tempered by his wife, Felipa Domenech Ferrés, who encouraged her son's artistic endeavors. When he was five, Dalí was taken to his brother's grave and told by his parents that he was his brother's reincarnation, a concept which he came to believe. Of his brother, Dalí said, "...we resembled each other like two drops of water, but we had different reflections." He "was probably a first version of myself but conceived too much in the absolute."Images of his long-dead brother would reappear embedded in his later works, including "Portrait of My Dead Brother" (1963).
Dalí also had a sister, Ana María, who was three years younger. In 1949, she published a book about her brother, Dalí As Seen By His Sister. His childhood friends included future FC Barcelona footballers Sagibarba and Josep Samitier. During holidays at the Catalan resort of Cadaqués, the trio played football together.
Dalí attended drawing school. In 1916, Dalí also discovered modern painting on a summer vacation trip to Cadaqués with the family of Ramon Pichot, a local artist who made regular trips to Paris. The next year, Dalí's father organized an exhibition of his charcoal drawings in their family home. He had his first public exhibition at the Municipal Theater in Figueres in 1919.
In February 1921, Dalí's mother died of breast cancer. Dalí was 16 years old; he later said his mother's death "was the greatest blow I had experienced in my life. I worshipped her... I could not resign myself to the loss of a being on whom I counted to make invisible the unavoidable blemishes of my soul." After her death, Dalí's father married his deceased wife's sister. Dalí did not resent this marriage, because he had a great love and respect for his aunt.
In 1922, Dalí moved into the Residencia de Estudiantes (Students' Residence) in Madrid and studied at the Academia de San Fernando (School of Fine Arts). Dalí already drew attention as an eccentric and dandy. He had long hair and sideburns, coat, stockings, and knee-breeches in the style of English aesthetes of the late 19th century.
At the Residencia, he became close friends with (among others) Pepín Bello, Luis Buñuel, and Federico García Lorca. The friendship with Lorca had a strong element of mutual passion, but Dalí rejected the poet's sexual advances.
However it was his paintings, in which he experimented with Cubism, that earned him the most attention from his fellow students. At the time of these early works, Dalí probably did not completely understand the Cubist movement [according to whom?]. His only information on Cubist art came from magazine articles and a catalog given to him by Pichot, since there were no Cubist artists in Madrid at the time. In 1924, the still-unknown Salvador Dalí illustrated a book for the first time. It was a publication of the Catalan poem Les bruixes de Llers ("The Witches of Llers") by his friend and schoolmate, poet Carles Fages de Climent. Dalí also experimented with Dada, which influenced his work throughout his life.

Actually he died practically penniless and broke personally. However his estate after his death, was worth a fortune, and much of it ended it up in the hands of the Spanish State.
While Dali was alive though he was notoriously bad with money, especially as he got older and worked less. Him and Gala were spending far more than he earned by the 1970's during his return to the US in an attempt to revive his career. The couple were a nightmare for the German New York gallery owner Dali was signed with who kept advancing him cash. Parcels of cash ($50,000 a time) were sent to his hotel for an exhibition of new work Dali had promised. However Dali preferred to party instead of working and had a large entourage of hangers-on. He would spend a fortune wining and dining them, hosting parties with celebrities and running up massive hotel and restaurant bills. His and Gala's lifestyle during the 1970's period was extremely extravagant, the designer clothes they both wore etc. They were constantly running out of money.
Gala was squandering Dali's money (she even sold at least one of Dali's original early highly valuable paintings) to finance the young American performer Jeff Fenholt who played Jesus Christ Superstar in the Broadway show. Gala was romantically involved with him (and many other young men). She became totally infatuated with Fenholt though, and he fully exploited the ageing Gala who by then was in her 60's. Fenholt had aspirations of becoming a famous singer and recording artist. He began making an album and Gala financed everything for him, even setting up a recording studio for him in her castle in Spain at one point. He wasn't very talented though as a singer, his music didn't sell well so that was a ton of Dali's money wasted, which Gala had told Dali would be a good investment.
Another reason Dali's finances were a total mess in the later years of his life, and by the time of his death, is because of a fraudulent scheme to sell fake limited edition Dali prints (there's some suggestion Dali knew about it and took part in the fraud, whilst others think he was duped). Dali signed thousands of blank sheets of paper which were supposedly then used to produce lithogram limited edition prints of his art, but they were being sold outside of his official gallery. No serious artist would ever do that. You only sign the finished prints normally and it's done at the gallery you're signed to where the prints are confirmed as genuine limited edition lithograph prints and a ledger kept of all prints signed and sold.
Dali didn't do any of that. He outsourced the print making to a crooked French guy who fully exploited the fact he had blank sheets with Dali's signature on by creating loads of extra prints. Eventually there so were many fake Dai prints circulating, buyers were getting duped. There were even 'new undiscovered' original signed Dali drawings appearing on art the market which caused a big scandal after it was revealed they were fakes too but had his real signature on. All this damaged Dali's reputation and the value of Dali's prints start to fall as art dealers, collectors and investors couldn't be sure what was genuine limited edition and what was not, due to him signing so many blank sheets..some claim he may have signed over 10,000 sheets. Another problem was Dali had a habit of changing of his signature frequently. He used about 20 or more different signatures at different times, so that created further confusion in the art world.
