Mantou are plain Chinese steamed buns, made from a yeasted dough of white wheat flour, milk, and sugar. They have smooth, snowy white surfaces and soft and fluffy insides, with just a hint of sweetness.
In northern China, where wheat is the main starch-as opposed to the rice-growing regions of the south-humble mantou are a staple food eaten with every meal. In other parts of the country, you can find them served at restaurants and sold from food carts, most often enjoyed for breakfast-especially washed down with fresh soy milk. For an indulgent dessert, they can be deep-fried until their outsides are crisp and golden, then served with sweetened condensed milk for dipping.

Thank you for watching! I'm glad that you enjoy this recipe! :D
good cook
hi cici, may i knw if the milk is cold, room temperature or warmed?
How long to steam if i want to make it half cook / or to keep frozen afterward?
You can still cook them until they are fully cooked, cool to room temperature, and then freeze them.
@@CiCiLi Thank you 😍
馒头很好吃! Steamed buns delicious!I love in pig years when they put little eyes, ears, and noses on them. When will you make 虾饺 xia jiao or har gow (I think in Canto)? The best of these shrimp dumplings I ever had was a little hole in the wall shop my taxi driver took me to in strangely enough Hangzhou not Guangzhou or Hong Kong.
Zhu Bajie, That’s a very good suggestion. I'll be sure to keep xia jiao in mind for the future video. :)
@CiCi Li what temperature should the milk be? Room temp or warm? Thanks.
this is great, my sister is also called Cici Li!
thank you..🥰
Is it possible to lay out a type of filling like jelly or a sprinkle of sugar or nuts before you roll up the mantou? Would fillings spill from the sides?
Can I make it into a flower shape after the lamination process instead of a cylinder?
Yummy 😘👌👌👌
I made some. Its really good but. I just bet curious why i hot brown spot from the skin of my mantou thanks for the recipe
When you steam the buns, make sure you add enough water in the steamer. If the water dried out, you would get brown spots, like you are baking them instead. Cheers!
@@CiCiLi thank you i will try again
Hi! Is it okay to use full cream milk?
Mantou goddess….
😃😃😃🙏🙏🙏
You can put this in stand mixer too right?
Absolutely! 😊
Do we need to wrap a towel under the lid ? Will all the water from the lid drop onto the man tao ?
You can definitely do that. For me, I didn't use any towels, and the mantou still came out pretty good.
Wow ! 1 tbsp of yeast ?
it's 7gram, I have googled the pack of yeast she used
@@lynkhong5116one tablespoon is way too much. I will use not more than 5 grams.
My chinese name is cici tan also ...😉
Is it possible to add flavorings like vanilla and chocolate to that kind of bread? And if it is possible would it be considered disrespectful to tradition?
Thanks for asking! Traditionally mantou is mostly plain. But nowadays, there are many different ways to make mantou, including chocolate, taro, pumpkin, vanilla, and etc. So please enjoy! 😊
@CiCi Li - Asian Home Cooking great! Thanks
