I tell people I am Dutch. The reason our worship was German is because when Luther’s Bible came out the Ukrainian Mennonites decided to use it. Then the schools taught German to the children. In my home our parents spoke German to the children and they spoke low German to each other. The low German is an old language connected to Holland. We are not Germans unless your heritage stems from there.

Yes the scarf was very much for religious reasons, taken from the bibles head covering verse, out of context I believe. The dresses were to be modestly made to cover well. However, how the design was decided on I will never know. Mennonites they should stand out and be different from the world. I think they took their clothing more seriously than their conduct. That’s my take from what I know of the culture
