  • Hi,
So I’m back from Singapore and have some updates on where I’m currently at, more calf issues have appeared from nowhere!
Hopefully not a season destroyer but will see how the next few weeks pan out

Last time you had a setback riding near Windsor you came back stronger than ever to win several Ironman events…
Only a matter of time to let the body heal and push on! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

I unwisely pushed an injury and it set me back a few YEARS. I could recreationally exercise, but not truly train with quality gains. You sound like you’re realistically processing all this. Thanks for your vulnerability and honesty. I hope for wise decisions and that your long term goals give you hope and cheer. All the best, Ruth. 🫶

Was hesitant to like this video as I don’t like the fact you’re injured! Wishing you all the best on a speedy recovery and an end to anything calf related. Good luck with salvaging your season, would love to see you race.

Your videos are always so honest and open, thank you. Whatever the outcome you’ll have done everything you can do to influence it and at the end of the day, you seem like the type of person who also keeps things in perspective in the wider context of life generally. I hope you get what you want and are able to race again soon, that would be lovely to see 😎👍🏼

Thats super frustrating. I know how it feels - iv had like 13 stress fractures over the years. It feels like you're always being knocked down. But we learn from our mistakes. Speedy healing Ruth ✨️

I have run over 135,000 miles during my running career. About 10 years ago I went thru a period of multiple painful calf tears and strains. No matter what I tried they kept happening. Somewhere in my research to resolve the issue I read that when you don’t have enough zinc in ur diet you can have calf strains. I found a multivitamin with over 200% of daily requirements and started taking it daily. I haven’t had any further issues since….just fyi…I know how frustrating it can be!

It sort of highlights how taxing triathlon is on the body. Hope you get a speedy recovery and can keep on racing through the season.

Interesting filming angle.. Are you walking backwards on the treadmill? Is that a cool down or reps with an incline?
(I did that once for trail training - to build downhill strength... - and got really funny looks in the gym!! 😅)

    • @Reastle1
      @Reastle1  2 месяца назад +1

Yes backwards walking on an incline 😊

      Cool! Am not alone!! 😂
Is that calf rehab related? Curious to hear how you include this in your training! - 10mins post run? 3 x 6min at silly incline (10%?).
All the best with the calf 🫶

I think you need to be sensible about your injury you have along career ahead of you you’ve had this problem for a while now you need to rehab and get injury completely healed every athlete that doesn’t listen so yes you should completely stop running otherwise later in your life you will pay so you don’t race until next year what does it matter look at the bigger picture go back to work take your mind off you have won 3 Ironman victories so you have the talent so do the right thing dont look at Kat mathews you are ruthless astle think about yourself please good luck 🤞

my two cents; feel free to disagree.
resting then rebuilding solves nothing because it does not address the cause: you big and powerful calves overpower cooperating muscle groups thus taking more than 100% and being prone to injury. the solution is increasing hamstring strength a glute strength. but not sissy stuff typical triathletes do - walking lunges with 5kg dumbbells; you need heavy RDLs, heavy GM's, GHR 3-4x a week, single leg hip raises and seated calf raises with sets of 50-100 reps to condition them for strength endurance.
resting now and taking it easy you will still have calf power at 120% and hams and glutes at 80% (compared to calves).
your calves tear because they are so powerful and generate high force. they need to be offloaded by other surrounding muscle groups in the kinetic chain becoming stronger.
    good luck.

Ruth, you are being stubborn with your diet, go plant base and reduce inflamation and recover. You are my fav triathlete and so sad. Wish you a speddy recovery.
