Excellent work. All complain about poor quality in manufacturing & our throw away world but at the same time don't have the appreciation & patience for "dedicated to improving their skills"craftsman

The galvanized area needs to be ground down to bare steel for the weld to have a fighting chance. Zinc contamination in the weld pocket creates porosity and therefore a poor weld.

That's why you always weld in a ventilated area especially when welding galvanized coated material or any other coated metal and in this case I'm referring to mig welding scenario's

Well you made a strong joint good job on that but I'm sure you are going to totally destroy it by slapping on some splatter weld with a stick and why not remove the galvanized coat first so you and everyone around you can live longer and throw down that stick welder and do it right with a mig its thin wall not a stick job

Good we have tube lasers now. The construction is clever. Remember a collapsing support tube of an oil rig that was welded the "easy" way and buckled. For normal applications however that easy weld would do.
