I think social media platforms like FB are a great example of the synthesis of Foucault and Deleuze. You've got this panoptic structure but instead of enclosed spaces where the cell inmates cannot see each other, instead you have an ever modulating vision of the other cells. And in fact the rather than the cell having a specific aim (e.g. producing goods in a factory) the product is he observation of other cells itself (engagement). Each cell has become a watchtower, the vision of which is always divisibly modulated by ML algorithms with an all seeing gaze. I'm kinda high so idk if this makes any sense. Sick podcast though i think this is my fav episode yet.
you all prolly dont care at all but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Cade Greyson Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
im writing an essay and using this text as a source, thank you so much for your insight! its nice to hear the perspective of people who know more about his and foucaults other work
Way late to the party. You guys are incredible, I've only just discovered this while looking for a copy of the aforementioned text that is the subject of the video. Incredible discourse and I'm very excited to explore the rest of the back catalog and catch up for new episodes. Cheers
"Postscript..." is as paradigmatic philosophical essay for the digital age as "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” (1935), by Walter Benjamin, is for the age of analogy. Paradigmatic in the sense of marking the change of phase _(dephasement_ and modulation are Simondon's concepts) in the individuation of the human civilisation. And also prophetic, unlike the Owl of Minerva, proving Hegel wrong, again. Keep up the good work!
naw, it proves Hegel right - not that I've even read him, but I can't really imagine how this proves him wrong, even with just a rough and basic understanding of his ideas. Perhaps might reflect a misunderstanding of Hegel on the part of those saying this proves him wrong. See Rosa Maria Magda, for example
Really enjoyed the discussion! What was the name of the theorist around 29 mins in who wrote about the capture of Deleuzian concepts from the perspective of capital? Can't quite work out the spelling for a google search!
It is easy to be prophetic where there is no basic change. This is why you can examine a work of thirty years ago that attempted to map that present and it seem prescient now. You can alter the angle, brightness, contrast, the furniture all around and what you see when staring in the mirror is essentially the same. Social and digital media have altered nothing only modulated the pace of conflict/cooperation.
Very interesting content which I am still trying to absorb. Note: enthusiasm is a good thing but when too many guys are talking too fast it messes with your production value.
True, the guys feel like they just discovery the fire. In the end my question is: How can we apply all this philosophy into actual individual or social actions. I dont know the age of the podcasters but looks like friends who read the same books and gather to smoke some weed and talk about. Mental masturbation with a lack of Groundness into Real life stuff. Blablablabla...

Thanks for the thoughtful comment and the props. Of course, our interpretations are commensurate. D-with-F 100%.

c'est bien la société française qui est décrite dans son échec
I'm a bad citizen and my comment will be hidden 😢
Modern Philosophers is way too biased against capitalism.
