My heart goes out to Tina. She is a good Mum and obviously loves Tiny. I think she just doesn't get enough food to produce milk for him., or not very much. She cares for him in every other way she can. Bless you Mr. Marisco for doing what you can to help them.

I like how feisty he is when he's being groomed and he doesn't like it and he gets that Grimace on his face and he pulls away really hard or when his sister tried to hold him in one place by his leg he ripped his leg away and then looked at her like you can't hold me down haha. He's a feisty little one I like it.

This video apparently was taking in February and going back to the oldest ones you have of him in early december where he was at an age that he was already physically able to forage, climb well and was no longer nursing - that would have put him a 6 weeks to 2 months he is at least 5-6 months old in this video and half the size of his peers or what are thought to be peers. Lagging in size over the first 1-02 months is not extraordinary if a baby is born premature but if it is it lags during this early months without being able to move well and its development is slow until it reaches its gestational age. For example, a baby born 4 weeks early could not be counted on to do what even a newborn would be able to do until they hit the 4 week mark which is when they would be full term. This usually means a baby that may not be a vigorous nurser or moving around much or mother was having to run on 3 legs to hold baby on her chest. However once a premie hist the time it would have been born at full term, while they maybe a month behind their peers they rapidly make up for it and from 4 weeks on would start closing the gap in size, weight and development. Tiny never acted like a preemie that was unable to do anything for weeks but cling and nurse and if he had been he would have made up for ot by now. While I have seen him hold a teat it's never resulted in any nursing action and the mums breast have never looked like they had milk. Either she is a new mother and had a bad mother and totally weaned at 3-4 weeks instead of just weaning the baby to a schedule and teaching it to ask to nurse did wean completely by mistake or else her milk dried up as she was not getting enough to eat. This is something that rarely happens with mammals as most will wear themselves to skin and bone while still nursing their young. But something did happen where Tiny was a darned good forager by 2 months and without even having all his teeth in. And yes, babies do eat solids at that point but more so in small amounts to learn what solids are about and usually just get small pieces that mom drops while eating but its not considered their main dies - which is still milk - usually until around 5 months or so. The fact that we never see mom sharing food she is consuming or dropping pieces for him and actually see her talking food out of his mouth to feed herself when she is not nursing is saying that there is some really unusual problem with this mother. I have seen this happen when a biological mother has dies in the first couple of months and a close female relative decides to sort of play adoptive mother but has no milk to offer and does not really know how to feed a baby or have an instincts driving her to do these things. I am not even sure then that this is actually his mom. He is still alive because he learned to foragem but he is not growing much as all you can expect a 3-5 month old baby monkey to forage is enough food to potentially keep them alive but not enough to facilitate growth or to put on much weight. This is March it seems and he is not even seem to have a winter coat on that most of the troop still do. That is just poor nutrition and lack of milk. That he managed to live is amazing whether or not that is his mother or a substitute and if he can make it a while longer and get a bit bigger and perhaps raise his rank or at least befriend other older babies and juveniles that have more access to food he might do okay. He is acting like a 5-8 month old but his growth has definitely been inhibited. If he is smart enough to stay away from mom when he has food in his mouth or pouches he might start putting on some weight.
Its sad when he snuggles his mom to hope he is nursing and he may even have a teat in his mouth but its been obvious from seeing her breasts - which are empty and her teats that are white and not pink that she is not producing milk - so even if he did suckle - which I have never seen him do - there is no milk. Even if he only got one or two nursing sessions a day in he would be growing, at least some. but given what little we see him get from his foraging he is not getting enough to grown on. Hopefully as he is older and out with peers and running about he will find better forage and join when they eat and finally get some growth. He is going to need to put weight on before he can get taller. You can tell he is getting older and close to a year in age when you look at his face. If he was only as old as his size would dictate his face would be still 'all eyes' those bug round baby eyes that are basically in the middle between the chin and forehead, but he is getting older and his eyes are no longer the most prominent feature and have moved up on his face to be below his forehead and his nose and mouth are shaping more of a muzzle like the older monkeys. He no longer looks so much like a baby.

Arroz, do primates exhibit any type of dwarfism, or something of that nature, as humans do? Do you ever find Tiny playing with any of the other babies? Those big eyes of his are amazing. He's soooo adorable! If the other kids pick on him too much, and he survives, he may end up being one tough little cookie. At least I hope so, for his sake.

It's easy to get a surge of emotion when watching clips of Tiny. He and his mother never really stood a chance. I remember asking you if Tiny ever had a playmate. It's nice to have seen him in the old clip you shared today. Seeing him play with his older sis

I love tiny, he's making me think of my own babies! I have 4 and it's 2 and 2! My boys are in the middle, and my daughters and my oldest son were all around the 7 pd 6oz but my younger son was only 6.5 and when we left the hospital he was 5.8 so he was my tiny one! I had to go to babies R us and get him the preemie outfits! Everyone was afraid of holding him lol! But he's now my bigger boy! Built like his dad, and everyone thinks he's the oldest son they are 2 years and 2 days apart! Same due date, but I'm glad that they didn't share the day! And he and his brother were total mama's boys, until they hit the double digits love watching these moments, thank you!

He has some spunk. He is just too small to really fight for himself. Good thing he is grown and no longer reliant on his mother.
However, I have seen more video of him nursing than Teeny. Teeny really needed to forage way early in her baby life and she insured her survival.

  • @Mandy7D7
    @Mandy7D7 3 года назад

3:45 She grabs his entire pouch in one hand squeezing it to see if there is anything inside she can take. He, like his siblings, must've been so tired of having his pouches ripped and pulled constantly. Too weak to put up much of a fight, but he tries, he really tried and while it's a sad situation he is so unbelievable adorable.

The birds at :40 what are they..big! Love raptors as much as monkeys! 3:08 Tina did not return the groom favor, seems she is not faring to badly being low ranking like seemed originally, as she kicked out middle sib who was being groomed ;) Tiny seems to be VERY low key but spunky enough to decline rough grooming and BEYOND cute as is his sisters...or is he holding a grudge because milk bar recently closed ;) i am not worried about him one bit...food issue maybe but that will fix with time!! So blessed Arroz!

Malabsorption would explain a lot of these things. Just like humans I'm assuming that primates would suffer a stunted growth, fatigue, Etc. If his little body is unable to take the nutrients he needs from food then he wouldn't be able to thrive. I'm honestly convinced his mom isn't as bad as we might think she is. Nor am I convinced that he isn't eating enough. I think he learned a forage at a young age because of his excessive hunger due to his inability to absorb nutrients from his food. Sadly, if that is the case he won't do very well in the long run. You can't live if you can't absorb the nutrients you need from food. Without intervention from a veterinarian he will eventually starve to death. He'll slowly die from malnutrition. It's crazy how something can actually starve to death all while eating. I wish little tiny and his mom Tina the best. I hope whatever time he has left on this planet are full of happy memories with his mom and siblings.

Arroz I realize this took place 2 years ago but is it possible that Tina just isn't making enough milk. I know from what I have read and studied that it is difficult for some monkeys to produce enough milk for one baby. This gives way to the reason it is difficult for one to have twins and both survive. It may well be that Tiny is working so hard to get the milk that he falls asleep before getting enough milk. I also know that Tina steals food from him as well. The 2 combined creates a real problem.

Awwww the babies can’t look at grooming as a sign of love in tiny’s family grooming is for checking his pouches and removal what’s in them. The 2 best mothers I’ve seen are reddy and dolly. For Tiny and siblings she produces poorly behind everything she does is self motivated that’s sad. Skull head gave a very spacific warning to Tina
We know who you are and how u take from your babies. It’s all about the babies in a troop when they have fed a lil something notice they follow Tina so she won’t rob her son of food. She acting like perfect mom infront of skull head.

Little tiny is always foraging when he's not being held by his mom I wonder why that is. It seems like he never plays or swings on things or two climbs trees. It's unusual for a baby his age to just constantly be forging isn't it. Recognize the fact that him and his mom are both really small and maybe low-ranking that they don't probably get a lot of treats that the other monkeys get but to me it seems like little tiny is starving. Or maybe that's just his way. Maybe he just finds it interesting and he does it like other kids play that's his thing. IDK I wonder if he suffers from the monkey form of dwarfism because you're right Arroz he looks like he's the size of a 3 week old. Either way I just find him absolutely adorable hopefully him and his mom will be okay and get through the winter just fine and he'll start growing bigger. Maybe he's just a late bloomer.

Arroz this is so interesting. When you say he is Meek BUT he is very sure when he does not want to get "handled" by a relation he shakes them of and they do not argue. When you say Endocrine are you thinking Thyroid gland ?. My thoughts are more physical rather then hormonal. By his general appearance and manner I would say that there is an element of pain or discomfort. The way he moves the hunched up appearance. He`s pelvic area is very thin. His mother is feeding him and I would say that he is getting milk as there is no frustration or fussing at the nipple. But getting fed and making use of it is a different matter. My bet is some sort of parasitic worm or some problem with his digestive system. Mum is looking quite good and well accepted by the Alpha male. Thanks Arroz

There aren't many parasites that you could get from eating plants so my guess was between something endocrine or exogenous and I'm now more tilted towards chronic insecurity with food as the main cause. He looks too bright to be a cretin ;)

At no point did I suggest that he is a cretin in fact I think that he is a very clever little monkey with strong survival instinct. With regards to parasites there are at least 5 that come to mind, the most obvious are Cestodes that can be transmitted by snails onto leaves and in water. Also dogs are a great host of Tape worms and bearing in mind that he is picking around in the dirt for food and not eating plants he could easily pick up an infestation. Still your opinion my opinion neither of us will ever know. :-)

ian540 I was thinking it may be “Failure To Thrive”. Whether it’s organic or not ...? You’re right. We may never know.

Arizona, what happens if you give these two food in front of the rest of the troop? I'm going to guess it would be taken from them by force; would they also be beaten up?

Yes they'll. They are trying to join the troop so they re the very last to pick food.
If they dare broke the order they ll be attacked by the rest of the troop. This is why she's so edgy all the time.

You should take us into town some day, like going to buy the goodies for our monkeys. That would be interesting for us from other countries to see. Anyone with me? Hit like and share if agree, thanks for reading and considering.

It is so hard to watch these poor babies of Tina. I know she is the lowest ranking member of this troop but there is no excuse for raiding the food out of your babies mouth and pouches. This has to be an inherited trait from Tina's mother and passed down to all the girls.....Have a baby.....raid its pouches. It is a sad state of affairs in her family.

This is called being a monkey. This is a common behavior, especially for lower ranking monkeys. You cannot expect them to behave like a loving human mother. There is no deep attachment people like to make believe there is. Animals don't sacrifice for their young. They don't share. Offspring are replaceable
