- OSCAR WINNER:Best Special Visual Effects"I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." -- Hal 9000 With 2001: A Space Odyssey, director Stanley Kubrick redefined the limits of filmmaking in this classic science fiction masterpiece; a contemplation on the nature of humanity. 2001: A Space Odyssey spans from the dawn of man to its title year. Stone Age Earth: In the presence of a mysterious black obelisk, pre-humans discover the use of tools -- and weapons -- violently taking first steps toward intelligence. 1999: On Earth's moon astronauts uncover another mysterious black obelisk. 2001: Between Earth and Jupiter, the spacecraft's intelligent computer makes a mistake that kills most of the human crew -- then continues to kill to hide its error. Beyond Time: The sole survivor of the journey to Jupiter ascends to the next level of humanity.Based on the short story The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey showed the way for all other special effects-laden films that followed.

Can you imagine seeing this film in the theatre for the first time way back in 1968? Though there were certainly some great sci/fi movies at the time, many were Earth-based dystopian-themed films. Most people were used to space-based sci-fi special effects on the small screen the likes of Star Trek(no criticism...I love the original series) or Land of the Giants, but anything on the big screen looked pretty tame. I remember seeing Star Wars in the theatre back in 1977 and it blew my socks off, so I can only imagine how someone in the late 1960s would've reacted on seeing '2001'... I'm sure most would've been dumbfounded. It's no wonder the Library of Congress selected this film for preservation in the National Film Registry!
for reallll they must have blown their mind when they saw the special effects
I saw the original release. As a 12 year old kid, I didn’t grasp everything it was saying but it was unforgettable.
@@mrtstubbsYou're more than forgiven...even after having watched it multiple times by my late twenties, I still couldn't grasp everything it was saying!
THE GREATEST AND BEST SCI-FI FILM OF ALL-TIME!!!!!!!
Not really, it is a classic tho
@@lokio1890 the best
It still scares the hell out of me
Interstellar, better graphics of course better story and went further
The best movie in history my friend!
Interstellar got a lot of ideas from this movie.
Interstellar is this movie, but the ending got completely cucked so normie audiences would understand.
@@user-yl4lf9mh1w Tragically, many still didn't get it... IQs are in freeefall.
Most of the space movie are heavily inspired from this. Not only Interstellar, Gravity and etc but I think Star Wars may be too
@@oneactoneda4393 in some ways it is
This and Contact, mostly.
There are parts of this that were in the NYC premiere, but were later cut out of the national release.
Now restored--and awaiting an imminent DVD release--believe it or not...
Just as an extra...
@@martinallen6174 The restoired portions and the whole film with it , MUST be ON 70 mm. and even IMAX. Or it is a CRIME not to.
Yeah the original cut was 2 Hours and 40 Minutes. Kubrick himself cut down the movie to 2 Hours and 28 Minutes, mainly to speed up pacing. Also Kubrick is known for removing any footage himself because he fears that a studio will cut his movies without his supervision, which basically means the studio would butcher it up.
This film is a testament to the fact that reality is more vast than anything that the human mind can conjure; that God is not an omniscient being watching over us, but rather the complex matrix of reality encountering itself.
The fact that you think your three pound brain which is only functioning at ten percent, can comprehend all of the ways God works, sounds a bit ignorant. If you knew everything, I might be inclined to listen to such a statement, but you do not.
I'm afraid you are right !
ur wrong God is real
Yes I was there in 1968. Saw 2001 on a Cinerama screen many times in my home Toronto where it played for 127 weeks...a world record! Now I have it in 4K Bluray. Waiting for a smilebox version.
Don't ever remember seeing a trailer for this masterpiece.
Is that the original quality that was released in theaters in 1968? If so, this is amazing for the time!!!
Film is a chemical medium, information is stored photochemically on a layer of film, so its quality is superior to digital mediums we know today, which only add more and more resolution until it seems overkill but still depend on little tiny dots called pixels, that go from one pixel to the next with different color information. Film is continous, it's not split up in tiny square pixels, it's as real as it can get.
It would be vastly better than this if you managed to catch a 70mm Super Panavision Cinerama presentation with 6 channel magnetic sound. 70mm film has 350 % more film area than 35mm film . So it's way higher than 4k as a comparison. A fantastic film btw. Certainly in the top 20 films of all time.
@@martinhughes2549 I saw an old 70mm print at the VanCity theatre in Vancouver in 2008. My date amazingly went in cold - she had no knowledge of the film at all. She loved it. One of the best live movie experiences I’ve ever had
67 to 70 would have three great years to be alive
Now that's how you do a trailer!
Damn this trailer gave away way too much
Happy 50th
the best ever! the O.G scifi movie
Damn!! This Trailer Actually Spoiled More Than Even The Actual Movie Did...!!???
😶😶😶😶
Thats how old movie trailers were
I'd like to watch 2001 A Space Odyssey in 35mm
you mean 70 mm?

Stanley. Kubrick. Is pure cinema. 🎥🎥( Great epic. Film. The motion picture Music theme. Give powerfull. Energy.to the movie. The special visual efects is. ⭐⭐⭐⭐😎😎👌👌👌
Nice upload, Warner Brothers. Now how about doing so again this time WITHOUT your gratuitous fucking logo intruding on it?!
Awesome.
I don't know how this film didn't do well on the first weekend it came out. Kubrick had to cut some stuff
He should NEVER have done that !
Well looks like trailers giving away entire movies isn't a new thing.
I'm sorry Dave. I must spoil the entire movie in this trailer....
Can't wait Screen Junkies to make Honest Trailers for this one.
There's a fan-made trailer on youtube much better than this one.
This is the og trailer you baboon, also there is a remaster edition of the trailer for the 50th anniversary so gtfo
history was made
silent running is better LOL
Who’s here after the Barbie teaser? 😂
🤣🤣
Nope.
Morons
Fuck Barbie 😅
🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
spoilers! @_@
This is the worst trailer I've ever seen. A trailer is suppose to give a taste of the film, not give away the whole story.
Huhuhuh wahhhhhhh!!!
LorenzoNW
But even the movie doesn't give the full story...
That’s how trailers used to be
Today's trailers are way more spoiler heavy.
Perhaps, but maybe we should cut them some slack. After all, it's pretty hard to sum up 2001 in just 3 minutes and 23 seconds!
This is a terrible trailer.
It's from the 70s you dickhead
@@jubal643160's lol
Bad trailer the movie looks like it was made by a 5 year old
Nope.
You clearly hace no idea what hard work is
Is that James Earl Jones narrating it?
No. Do you know what he sounds like?
