As someone that own yamaha a3080 and marrantz's last year high end model avr, the yamaha is far better. Marantz get worrying hot. Sound wise both same. What made me pick Yamaha is the interface. Marantz interface screen feels like I'm back in 2000s. And yamaha remote is far better. Some things that marantz avr does just makes me shake my head.
@@HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear i had 3080 and it was amazing for sure but I exchanged to sr8015 for more channels and hdmi 2.1. To me yamaha was great out of box but with marantz i had to do a lot of calibration.
I've had 5 receivers since 2000 for home theater. Dislike: onkyo back in 2000-2010 (has 5.1) run hot which killed the HDMI output. Like: Denon 1912 (has 5.1) since 2010 run warm Love: Denon AVR-X3700H (5. 2 independent sub outputs .4 atmos) and Denon AVR-S760H (5. 2 identical sub outputs .2 atmos) since 2021 run warm. I love streaming Spotify from my iPhone to Denon HEOS receivers and the 7 Denon HEOS standalone speakers around my house simultaneously for a party! I've never owned Yamaha or Marantz (out of my budget) so this video is informative for me.
I purchased the Marantz AV7706 and the Denton 6700H, and also pre-ordered the newer Yamaha RX-A6A, which I ended up cancelling. I was going to do an A/B test with the Marantz vs Denon, but was so happy with the Marantz AV7706 + Outlaw 5000x that I just sent the 6700H back before even testing it. Tough call though, as the 6700H seems to measure better (see ASR). I wasn’t convinced it would actually sound better, especially compared to a separates setup, but I’d put money that I wouldn’t be able to hear a difference in a blind A/B test.
They're all great and you can't go wrong with any of them but for my money Denon is the best of the three, then Marantz, then Yamaha. Clean clear sound, great controls, easy to operate and they have all of the features you could ask for. I previously owned a Pioneer Elite which was great for many years but going to Denon was a big step up. My Denon is the AVR-x4700h and I'm using it in Pre-Amplifier mode with an Outlaw Model 7000X & Emotiva BasX A4 amplifiers.
Nice! Similar setup to mine. I’ve got the AV7706 with Outlaw 5000x for the bed layer and BasX A4 for the Atmos ceiling speakers. 5.2.4. I assume you’re running 7.1.4 or something? I’m still messing with the settings and REW to get everything dialed in. You run with Audyssey on?
@@3dmiller Cool. Yeah I runt it with Audyssey on and I'm now doing 7.1.4. I was 7.1 for a while but now that I have the BasX A4 I can run a full Atmos setup. It's great! The height channels do make a difference. I run the Dolby upmixer a lot for stuff that wasn't mixed in Atmos.
Oh I wish I could buy that x4700h but all the stocks are empty and my current avr failed me. I have active Genelec dsp speakers and dsp sub so don't really care about Audyssey as Gelelec GLM does great job. Planning to add some passive height speakers to Auro3D configuration.
Yamaha for me. My only gripe with YPAO is their bass management and them wanting to place all your speakers to large. Once you know and change that it works very well. I was using an RXA3070 and then was able to get a Marantz SR6015 for free. Tried it for a few weeks but ultimately went back to my Yamaha. The Marantz sounded really good but I can't stand that porthole design. I like to see info on the main screen plus my Yammy also had an extra 40 watts per channel.
Longtime audiophile here , and one of the quirky things in my journey is that a Denon AVR receiver I bought back in 1998 ( want to say 2800) is still one of the best amplifiers I’ve ever had for music ( which is odd). I bought it ata high end brick and mortar store along with Paradigm Studio 40s and Sunfire Subs ( I still have). Denon is no joke. I’m a tube guy now ( wow!)
Funny - sounds like you shopped the same place I did back in the day (Atlantic Stereo in Newport Beach, CA). I also bought Paradigms and a Sunfire Sub (which just recently died). But instead of a Denon receiver, I bought a B&K receiver, which I'm about to finally replace - probably with the Marantz SR7015. That's what I'm on here researching.
Thank you very much for your assessment of the sound of these three AVR brands, which is what I’ve been looking for, not of their features. Any updates on the sound of the newer models in March of 2024?
I’ve heard Yamaha are built like a tank. Well my tank quit after 3 years. Then I went with a denon and it needed 2 service calls within its warranty period. I didn’t trust it and sold it and bought the marantz. People complain about it running warm, Yes it does but it’s been flawless after 3 years and still goin strong 💪
I've never had a denon or Yamaha receiver but I do have a marantz sr5015 an I've just learned how to put up an separate monitor to use with the heos function an I love having smooth jazz playing while I flip through RUclips or watch a movie with double screens on. It's so many cool things you can do with the heos function an a ton of streaming platforms you can listen to while still watching your main monitor...I love my 5015
You said it correct about all brands. Myself I like Marantz preamp processors. I like separates with a home theater set up because using individual power amps is the best. I did on the Denon 4311CI receiver 9.2 channel receiver and it was very good.
I've owned many Yamahas, two Sony AVRs, one Pioneer, and one Denon. They all had / developed problems except the Yamahas and the Pioneer. (I didn't have the Pioneer very long, though.) I loved the features of my Denon but, went back to Yamaha for the bulletproof reliability.
Preamp mode is not good enough, sound quality does get better when use external amp especially in stereo listening, but it's not quite there. I had Marantz SR6015 which also have preamp mode, but it's uncompareble with AV7706 regarding sound quality. And Audussey needs lot of tweaking after calibration just to ged bass back.
Good video my friend. Short & sweet, without BS. I just bought a Yamaha A6A to replace a failed Pioneer Elite VSX-40. I plan to use a 2-channel Pioneer SX-1980 as a preamp for my front, main speakers, since the Yamaha is only 150 watts, & the Pioneer 270 to 300 watts. I hope my plan works. FedEx was supposed to deliver my Yamaha yesterday, but we had a lot of snow. So for now, I'll just have to go out in the garage & sit on my Yamaha motorcycle!
Yamaha. Been there done that with Denon and Marantz. Would like to see how the Anthem, Rotel and Arcam stack up vs the Yamaha CX-5200. Never own those but ridiculously happy with the CX-5200 at this point. YPAO isn't Audussy but I tune my room manually with Yamaha P.EQ. anyway so it didn't matter to me especially since tuning the subs via equalization on Yamaha can be done separately (left & right) which is a huge plus. (My bad, my model# is the CX-A5200).
I've been a Yamaha fan for years, but with my purchase of the Yamaha TSR-700, I've had several issues. The HDMI handshake issues are driving me nuts, but I hear that this is an issue with all receivers that utilize HDMI 2.1. What I'm experiencing now is, when I now bought an external amp for my front two channels, the RCA preamp outputs are creating horrible pops that are just not normal. I'm thinking of returning this unit to Costco and getting a Marantz instead. The Cinema 70s looks nice with all the preamp outputs.
My only dedicated home theater was powered by a Denon receiver (forget the model, 2006 used); it was good, but I keep going back to Yamaha. I like their sound and have never had one fail. Using a TSR - 7810 currently in an apartment 5.2.2 setup and have two other Yamaha receivers sitting in a closet that I need to sell. Want to go full separates, so will need another amp for height channels to go with the Rotel 5 channel I use now. Yamaha CX5100 and Anthem AVM-60 (or next gen of both) on the short list.
Perfect video. I need something new for a 5.1.2 system and have been considering Marantz vs Denon, but my installer for my ceiling mount Atmos speakers swears that Yamaha is the best clearly because they make pro-level gear and the other two don't and that knowledge and quality trickles down to their big box/home grade stuff. So now I'm not sure, but was still leaning towards Marantz.
I love Marantz though I used to work for Yamaha. We have 2 Marantz SR8500 & SR5600. That being said I would love to add Yamaha Avantage 3080 thank you!
I own a Sony STR-1080 7.2 av receiver. Kpace, what do you think of Sony receivers? I am a total movie guy and am considering upgrading to a Denon for around $1,000. Or is my Sony pretty solid for now? I've only ever owned two Sony av receivers. Any advice?
The Yamaha A8A will be my next reciever I think. I really love the Yamaha sound, and the ability to tune the sound to my liking. I'm not a fan of Audyssey actually, I think it fucks up more than it fixes 🙊 That said, I always tweak the sound after roomcorrection (have not met an software that is so good, that my ears like it as is). Roomcorrection tends to boost too much low bass, skimp on the midbass, and too much treble 🙊
I have bought the Marantz Ruby CD player, it is still in the box! But once that is paid off... I most likely will buy the Marantz Ruby amplifier. Then last , I might go for KEF speakers. That will be my stereo. I'm 64 years old, so that will be my retirement 'toy'! :) I really like how you speak for your videos!!!!
Need to consider the price and power consumption, Yamaha is the lowest. And since series RX-A2080 and RX-A3080 Yamaha DAC is up to DSD256 (11.2MHz). Marantz and Denon are only up to DSD128 (5.6MHz).
YAMAHA First, I have Yamaha RX A860 for years. When I does my Multi YPAO it is impressive to look Movies with my Bowers & Wilkins 5.1 Speaker System! I also mix House, Trance & Peak and Drive Techno with my DENON DJ Prime Set, X1850 & Two SC6000M and listen to it with my Yamaha HS8 & HS8S Speakers, but when I listen to my mixes on usually Soundcloud it really is incredible and beams me up to another Level, with my Yamaha RX A860. 2017 they had Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.2, & 4K 60 Hz. I never hat issues. I will buy in 3-4 Years my new AV Receiver like the A6A and I will have a 7.1 or 9.1 Dolby Atmos Speaker System from B&W. So Long Mens, Ciao and Bye
I haven't tried Denon yet, but I've had a few Yamaha and am using a Marantz for my PC's 5.1 setup. They both (Yamaha and Marantz) seem great, and the only big push I would have either way would be features of a specific AVR rather than one brand over another.
Don’t get a Denon had two both with bad HDMI boards. Don’t go with Marantz either I am having same issue with my new one. Go with a different brand entirely.
I actually have a lot to say on this matter, have not tried Marantz tho. My 2 newer receivers are a Yamaha RX-V385 and a Denon AVR-X2500H, both have issues. The Yamaha is easier to use, better OS menu, better remote. It's DAC and DSP's are mediocre, but I don't think most people would notice, and to be fair it is like the base model of their whole range so maybe more expensive ones will be better? It will strain pushing lower than 8Ohm speakers. Not too much amplifier power but it's certainly good enough for my small rooms. Has no cooling fans, but it is well laid out inside, you can put a blower underneath to blow air up through the bottom and out the top. Yamaha stuff always seams to be a certain level of quality no mater what tier of their range you chose, like always, even stuff I've tried out of thrift stores from the 90's and 00's. Then there's the Denon... That new Denon is bad. The opposite of good. Way overpriced. incompetently laid out internally. It had stupid crap blocking the heatsink for the MAIN LEFT AND RIGHT AMP SEGMENT. Which contributes to how badly it overheats. It gets really hot for 6 ohm speakers. It gets really hot no mater what you do or the speakers you drive with it. The remote control is really poor, does not support learning functions on to the keys which it really should for the price range. The remote does not have fast forward, rewind or stop. Has no cooling fans. Does sound just ok when it's not overheating. My older Denon AVR-683 is much better, in every way. Has better sounding amps, does not have crap blocking the heat sink, is built way better, inspirers actual confidence, was only 10 space bucks at a goodwill. (Remote cost 20 spacebucks later on lol.) The older Denon is much better, I have very little confidence in their new stuff. Like, seriously, my old school Denon is my most trusted thing I own that powers speakers.
@@marcgoldstein2957 .wav files through It's own usb slot. I don't think CD's from optical in performs differently, but that would be interesting to A/B. The DSP is what's really bad, even from just only adding a sub crossover. When you put it into Direct mode, it's a lot better. But it's Trash compared to my Denon AVR-683 from the mid 2000's. I can't even use the New Yamaha because it lets me down so hard. Every speaker I put on the New Yamaha sounds worse than I know they really are. I'll hoping I can just give it away to someone I bump into later in life, who's looking at getting into the home audio game.
@@raidendigital1003 which model do you own and is it possible you have a defective unit? I have own nothing but Yamaha receivers and none of this reflects my experience with them.
@@marcgoldstein2957 RX-V385. It doesn't sound THAT bad. But it's just not great. It's engineered good and doesn't overheat at least. I'd be happy to put in the inf. money cheat and try increasingly more expensive ones in the Yamaha range. RX-V385 was the most base surround sound model they sold.
I have the Marantz SR5015 and for movies it's just not that great to me. It's good but I'm not in love with it. Gonna swap it for the onkyo tx-rz50 coming out. I heard that is a beast and only 100 bucks more for an extra 20 watt per channel! I'm thinking this will be the best bang for the buck plus, is THX Certified and they have high standards. Your thoughts on what I'm gonna do for a 5.2.2 setup using B&W floor and center speakers along with bookshelf for the rears.
Hi, love your videos and always find them very informative and easy to follow. I'm a newbie to the home theater community. I shopped around a piece together a 9.2.4 setup using all Klipsch speakers. I have a Denon X4200W and a Outlaw 7100 power amp to run the 9.2.4 but the Denon along with the Outlaw can only power 11 speakers at one given time. What would you recommend I could do to be able to get all 13 speakers to be active at one given time?
I have had Marantz from the 7701 up to the 7705. I had been looking at the Anthem AVM 70 OR 90 largely b/c I have to turn the TV on when I listen to music only just to see the volume. I was looking at changing simply because of the display. But I can save the $ b/c of your comment about opening the front door. I only sit about 22' away, but my eyes aren't what they use to be. So thanks!
I currently own a Yamaha Aventage 1060... still in mint condition. Thinking about upgrading but don't know what I should upgrade to. Any suggestions? I run a 7.2 setup.
Yamaha’s new avantage series look good, I'm going for the a8a, was also looking at the nad t778 and the anthem 740 but both of those have fans not heatsinks, and some have had problems and a few other bugs have been reported so looking for a bit of reliability. Check the forums out on avforums and avsforums.
I would not go with Yamaha purely because it offers much worse value for money. To get 9 channels you need to spend over 2.3k insane you can get excellent x3700h for less then half. Yamaha is no where near being twice better. Secondly Denon are smaller and fit in any media cabinet - Yamaha does not - it’s extremely deep. For the price of Yamaha you can have Denon as preamp and separate amp pretty much giving you pro level setup that you would need to spend few times over to match otherwise. Regarding Marantz - it’s got bigger distortion than Denon and costs more… unless you really like how it sounds avoid.
Thank You! I was choosing between 3700, 6015 and a2a (a4a is way too expensive in my country). I'm leaning towards 3700, since, I just don't like Yamaha, I'm used to Audissey and, yeah, it's dimensions are weird. And small screen on Marantz... it just annoys me
Right now I'm considering between Marantz SR5015 and Yamaha RX-A2A. I will be pairing with a pair of Polk Audio R200 bookshelf speakers and SVS sub. Initially thinking of just getting the marantz, set-up a 2.1 for both music and movies. Not considering surround speaks as I do not want to run extra speaker cables, until I found Yamaha. I heard that the Yamaha is able to have wireless surround using their MusicCast 20. Can someone give some advice which should I choose? For music I prefer the sound to be warmer and I do watch movies with it.
I own both marantz and denon avr for movie side denon is good. But marantz is good for both movie and music, I have marantz sr6014 and q acoustics 3000i cinema packages. And I enjoy it. But I never experienced a pre pro.
You liking the Marantz sound with the Q 3000i? Isn't marantz known for a softer sound profile. Was recommended to go with a more dynamic receiver like Onkyo instead for my 3050i and 3090ci Q's.
Why do they all have handshake issues with HDMI. My brand new Marantz cuts out when it is searching for the correct audio format. Is there any way to solve this?
I need your advice again, I have the Denon AVR-X3700H, Am looking to get a External amplifier, My top 2 choices are the Rotel 1585, Or The Emotiva XPA-DR3 Reference Three-Channel Power Amplifier, I know the Rotel 1585 has 5ch at 200 watts per ch at 8omh, And the Emotiva is a 3ch at 450watts per ch at 8omh, Any recommendations?
@@pyrocrew17 lol So I should upgrade my receiver? I did not feel a need to since I will only be using the Reciever to run my Rear surrounds, Front and Rear Height speakers, I was going to purchase the External amplifier to run my Front LR towers, Center and front Surround Speakers

Hi Kpaceguy. I’m actually really fighting between getting the Denon 8500 and the Anthem 1140.I I’m presently running a marantz 7010 receiver. I have a deep room and want to run 6 heights. I know the anthem will process 15 channels but only has 11 amplified channels. I definitely want to move towards separates in the future so I’m not sure which path to take. Sonically which would you favour. I enjoy the user friendliness of Audessey and am not sure I want to take on anthems room correction software even though I’ve heard it’s superior. Plus with all the reported bugs with anthem it seems like a bit of a red flag. I need your help kpaceguy.
If you want to go separated, which I suggest, go Marantz. It's everything you're used to plus it'll pair great with any amplifier. No need to spend big money on the denon if you aren't going use internal amplification or big money on anthem and not use all its capabilities
@@Kpaceguy thanks you so much for your reply. Here’s the thing though. As much as I’ve enjoyed my marantz 7010. I’m looking for something different. More detail and better separation. A step up in sonic quality. Plus I’m only interested in a 13 capable unit. I want to run 6 heights, plus aside from the 8805 marantz processor which I’m not interested in. No other company offers a 13 channel receiver but denon. The marantz 8015 only has 11 channels. Is the anthem that difficult to use. I know you’ve also preferred the anthem over both denon and marantz. Am I right?
@@Kpaceguy that’s true. Plus the 1140 does process 15 channels as well. I would be stuck with 13 with the denon. As u can see I’m really torn between the two. I really value your opinion. I love your channel.

I have a Demon s510bt, and I love it. I bought it after my Onkyo's HDMI input port failed, and it did last for 7 years or so, so I was happy with it. Although the Onkyo was more powerful, the Denon seems more efficient, does not run hot, and perfectly powers my Polk Audio Monitor series 5.1 setup. I plan on upgrading my towers from the Monitor 50s to 70s, and I will buy an amp to power those.
My preference has been Yamaha, never got any issues with it. I had denon failing just after 6 month, not very good quality control. Yamaha sounds amazing for movies and web/ app control makes it so easy to use . For music, a dedicated amp is the way to go. I just think AVR are made to handle so many speakers quality of sound for music is the least priority. You need to use dedicated amp for music. I waiting to receive the new Onkyo R350 with Dirac Live, the new line up of Yamaha is a disappointment and pricing is not competitive.
Anthem is the best out of those 3 brands. Ever since I bought the mrx 540, aint no way im going back to yamaha, denon/marantz avrs. Next time i upgrade. I'll stay with anthem or go with a higher end brand like nad or audio control
Auditioned the Denon 6500 just before the pandemic, even though it was very good for movies, I thought the 2-channel was 😲 then I thought I could always put it through a 2-channel power amp but at the end of the day whatever you put into a digital sounding amplifier, your still going to end up with a digital sound! Waiting on the YAMAHA RXA6A but I'm not holding my breath. I think I'm going to have to up the game and go with a receiver which has an analogue amplifier therefore if the Yamaha sounds as digital as I suspect it's going to sound then my last choice will be the ARCAM AVR20.
I have the Klipsch Reference Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 Home Theater System ( R-12SW Subwoofer), which make and model do you Recommend for music, gaming, and videos?, Love Your Videos !! Very helpful !!
Great video! Bottom line for anyone i think is what is pleasing to your ears when you got to the store and listen. The bells and whistles on a receiver makes no nevermind to most people. My receiver can do this and that! ya but it sounds like shit! Know what i mean? TC
Your background as far as reviewing receivers. Are you a home theater enthusiast, audio engineer? Electrical engineer? Recording or sound reinforcement engineer?
If you don't try to rely on any room correction, then I think Yamaha wins hands down. Superior and reliable build quality, really easy to fine tune the sound to your taste with their parametric equalizer, and the really convincing heights. I really don't know how they do it. even when my height speakers aren't playing much, I still hear sound coming above me!
I’ve owned all three brands. I still have my Yamaha RX-Z9, Marantz SR8012, and I don’t remember the Denon AVR I used to run. IMO, you can’t even make a video comparing the companies unless you are comparing competing products from the three companies. In other words, you need to compare the most equal competing products the companies offer, in order to try to determine a generalization of the products. What about build quality and where the product is made? Do people care if the receiver is made in Japan or not? Denon and Marantz offers their high end AVRs made in Japan still, not sure about Yamaha. To me, it’s too open of a discussion to put a company as 1, 2, 3. Pick the top of the line AVR from each company and then you can get your 1, 2, 3 comparison.
AVR purchasers MUST BE value-oriented purchasers. So, the manufacturers pile the goods up in these packages. When you get caught up with thinking that they have audible differences, you lose me. I do not know what you hear. Your take on the YPAO is now a tradition even though the changes obviate the complaints.
I only use ypao for initialization of the speakers. I turn the volume in the receiver to 0.0db, put my spl meter at the listening spot and use the test tone to get each speaker to 75db. I do the subs at 85db. This will calibrate to reference. Makes a world of difference and you get to unfuck what Yamaha does with the levels it "thinks" they should be.
Just bought a Yamaha rx-a4a at nearly 37 pounds it’s hefty. For its amazing surround sound and dialogue weight it’s my favorite choice.

The Marantz sounded really good but I can't stand that porthole design. I like to see info on the main screen plus my Yammy also had an extra 40 watts per channel.
I got my marantz av 8805 pre/pro , with 2 marantz mm 8877 power amps this is the best decision I have Ever made I’m really happy with my setup
It also depends on what speakers you pair them up with.
Thank you very much for your assessment of the sound of these three AVR brands, which is what I’ve been looking for, not of their features. Any updates on the sound of the newer models in March of 2024?
I've only heard yamaha so far
I’ve heard Yamaha are built like a tank. Well my tank quit after 3 years. Then I went with a denon and it needed 2 service calls within its warranty period. I didn’t trust it and sold it and bought the marantz. People complain about it running warm, Yes it does but it’s been flawless after 3 years and still goin strong 💪
1 Yamaha
2 Marantz
3 Denon
I have Marantz sr 6012. Dtsx and Dolby atmos. Great amp
Marantz all day long!
Bought an 8015 last year sorry I didn't get the 8805A.
Maybe next year I'll upgrade 😁
Love your videos 👍
I appreciate it
I don't think you mentioned you can turn Denon into Preamplifier. Which is a big advantage.
I think pre amp mode only on 4700 and up?
@@hometheaterjoe9489 3700 up
Preamp mode is not good enough, sound quality does get better when use external amp especially in stereo listening, but it's not quite there. I had Marantz SR6015 which also have preamp mode, but it's uncompareble with AV7706 regarding sound quality. And Audussey needs lot of tweaking after calibration just to ged bass back.
I agree.
Ive had Marantz and Yamaha.
I currently have a Denon 4700, and i love the movies on it, but im gonna have to go back to Marantz.
My 15 years old yamaha is working fine despite voltage fluctuating. Also denon are well built. Next buy will be a Marantz 7000n.
I appreciate it thank you
Yamaha all the way. Now drop Anthem into the mix and see what happens.
Sadly Rotel isnt doing Separates anymore for now. I was hoping they gunna do a refresh
I have had Marantz since the the nineties this time I am going Yamaha. Their power supply is just superb.
NAD can mix it with the 3 Marantz, Yamaha & Denon.
I would put Yamaha first marantz second and Denon third in my opinion.
Why?

This I own and truly raised the bar .I am Mr. Neural x.
The Yamaha A8A will be my next reciever I think. I really love the Yamaha sound, and the ability to tune the sound to my liking. I'm not a fan of Audyssey actually, I think it fucks up more than it fixes 🙊
That said, I always tweak the sound after roomcorrection (have not met an software that is so good, that my ears like it as is). Roomcorrection tends to boost too much low bass, skimp on the midbass, and too much treble 🙊
How's the A8A? Did you ever get it?
I have bought the Marantz Ruby CD player, it is still in the box! But once that is paid off... I most likely will buy the Marantz Ruby amplifier. Then last , I might go for KEF speakers. That will be my stereo. I'm 64 years old, so that will be my retirement 'toy'! :) I really like how you speak for your videos!!!!
Thank you!
Need to consider the price and power consumption, Yamaha is the lowest.
And since series RX-A2080 and RX-A3080 Yamaha DAC is up to DSD256 (11.2MHz).
Marantz and Denon are only up to DSD128 (5.6MHz).
That's why the Yamaha sounds better. It's all about the DAC.
Yamaha uses Saber Pro DACs which are far from mediocre. How you feed a signal to the DAC matters.

Hi Kpaceguy. I’m actually really fighting between getting the Denon 8500 and the Anthem 1140.I I’m presently running a marantz 7010 receiver. I have a deep room and want to run 6 heights.

Denon x500 avr (since 2014) you should really test it . better than mostly newer models in terms of stereo.
Yamaha, Marantz, Denon
My preference has been Yamaha, never got any issues with it. I had denon failing just after 6 month, not very good quality control. Yamaha sounds amazing for movies and web/ app control makes it so easy to use . For music, a dedicated amp is the way to go. I just think AVR are made to handle so many speakers quality of sound for music is the least priority. You need to use dedicated amp for music.

Unfortunately that's money I'm not willing to spend on one video
So, don’t ask the question.
Marantz no1

I only use ypao for initialization of the speakers. I turn the volume in the receiver to 0.0db, put my spl meter at the listening spot and use the test tone to get each speaker to 75db. I do the subs at 85db. This will calibrate to reference. Makes a world of difference and you get to unfuck what Yamaha does with the levels it "thinks" they should be.
