I’ve said it many times before, Mark, this is your calling. Simplifying golf swings and grips in such a way that it’s understood by all and repeatable by most. What’s also fantastic about how you do this is that you always include the all important “why” in the equation. Cheers.
I love that you’ve talked about this. When I redo my grips I’m always trying to be specific since someone told me a few years ago that I had large hands for using a small grip. As I played around with it I found it really helped me to tailor the grip to what I feel comfortable with. I’m still playing with my preferences in that regard and if I had a few extra clubs I’d probably make training aids like this too. I love the flat putter grip on the club to understand face to path relationship. I feel like that club could’ve had me understand it much earlier!
The main reason I truly appreciate and enjoy your videos, Mark. Is it because, you explain the reasons why we need to try things. I have been seeing a coach throughout this season. My coach has gotten me to use forward lean with my irons. It has truly improved my ball striking. Keep up the great work, Mark. Cheers!
Have to say mark I’m really impressed with your videos over the past year or so great out of the box thinking, Rick shields was my favourite content creator but I m finding your videos much more informative and interesting of late, keep up the great work
I’m always impressed by your ability to go over core fundamentals in such concise way. My old wedge is going to get a putter grip with the flat side matching the club face for practice, thank you sir.
Mark, having watched your video on your grips a few weeks ago, i changed mine to midsize +4 with 2 layers of tape (im a ML glove) its a revelation for me. As a pull hooker for 20+ years, the stability it has given me in controlling the face is amazing. To add to that ive made my irons 1°flat and i address the ball with a raised wrist, straight lead arm (dechambles ish). This has moved my path from 4° in to out to almost neutral. Instead of my shape being a big draw, i can now move the ball both ways with little curvature in the air. Low point control is much improved too.
Great video Mark! I would like to add 2 things - the open-face wedge setup is what I call the 2-Grooves Open setup - it really is a life changer for learning to find the bounce of the wedge - it's my goto shot now. The 2nd thing I would add is to not be afraid to practice the ideas in this video using a 10-finger grip - the importance being that many people don't have as good a 'feel' with their left hand & giving the right hand more feel/feedback I've found can be very helpful.
Great ideas Mark. Question though, when you work on getting forward shaft lean do you also get much higher hands at impact (that is what happens on my end)?
It's kind of hilarious that this video came out today. I ordered a training grip a while back and finally got it today. I installed it on an extra 8 iron I have with a similar shaft and feel to the irons I game. I installed it off center so the clubface is pretty closed based on some other videos you have done in the past. I find a crooked normal grip is to easy to manipulate where the training grip isn't. I went out and hit some balls today and it's cool the results. 25 or so balls with the new training club then my gaming irons seem easy to hit. I mix in 4 or 5 with the training club from time to time. I am learning to de-loft and get hands ahead because I must. My right wrist is fused completely so leaning the shaft is near impossible but the training club makes me get my body out of the way quick to make a clean strike and not go left. Cheers
I have a tendency to have an excessively closed FTP (regardless of how strong or weak I make my grip) and I suspect it is from a lack of club face awareness (I'm an all-or-nothing kinda guy) and/or not getting my hands sufficiently ahead of the club head for the amount of face rotation I'm applying. So, I'm definitely going to try the putter grip. Great concept. Thanks Mark.
Hi Mark such a great👌though provoking Video, I have Align grip’s on all my Irons, except my 56deg Wedge, (because I open & close this club) for shot’s around the Green😃,after watching this might put an Align grip on my ChipR as I always play neutral shot’s with it on short or full shots, (it’s great for full shots) It’s perfect for the cold 🥶 windy day’s of winter, Thanks Dickey 9hcp 75year Senior Golfer
Thanks for all ur great content... Thinking more about the 'putter grip' If possible has any of the grip companies ever thought about using a more oval shaped grip or something lite a tennis/Badminton racquet to help people working out were face is?
I'm not sure if you're referring to people having this as a standard grip on their clubs as opposed to a training aid, but if you are then this would be against the rules
Good tips Mark! Does the closed club face drill mean you are practising leaving the club face open to neutralise the shot? Would the opposite drill with an open club face help practice the feeling of both closing the face and getting hands forward?
Have a set of Old Wilson Arnold Palmer irons with the original leather grips that are shaved flat where your palm Fits, Arnold was on the same idea back then, simple but genius.
I use the Nicklaus putting style - right palm push - very tempted to rotate my putter grip 90deg clockwise. Can't see anything in the Rules that says I shouldn't - what does the team think?
The very best grip of all time is the new Golf Pride CPX Midsize. Im not kidding, its a game changer. Has built in ailgnment, you dont need a glove, you get more feedback and its tacky as hell in wet conditions.
Yes it is illegal … In my opinion the most stupid rule there is… in every sports where you need to control the clubface you have grips where you can feel the face
I think it should’ve been pointed out more, it is not complying with the rules to use oter than round or ribbed grips on your playig clubs. Excellent idea though for practice.
Could you play with a putter grip on an iron? Is it legal? I do understand that this is a training thing; it was just a thought, why aren’t iron grips made that way
Mark I've had many lessons and they were all a complete waste of money... no explanation of weight shift... no explanation of how lag is produced... you are on another level compared to 99% of teachers, all they want is students to turn up every month to collect their money...
@@MarkCrossfield Just teasing. You now get chipping. I’m sure you know you didn’t previously. Bounce! You’re making some excellent vids these days. Regards.
Why would you want to slide in the first place. Start out with a hip bump in your stance and just rotate. I like the Cleveland Launcher XL's. People are blinded by the Callaway's and the Taylormade's and that's a shame.
If you go back around 8-10 years ago, you’ll see a video of Mark completely writing off these thicker grips. I had a good feeling then he was wrong and I was right. Wished I moved to them earlier.
This video isn't about thicker grips, besides grip size has always been personal, it's something better players have always done, hackers are just catching up as to how important it is.

Great video. Always remember Pete Cowen advocating the putter grip on an iron for people starting the game
I’m always impressed by your ability to go over core fundamentals in such concise way. My old wedge is going to get a putter grip with the flat side matching the club face for practice, thank you sir.
Your content is so clear and thought provoking. You have produced some great stuff over the last year or so - thank you.
I tried this idea because I played ice hockey. I made a grip the same shape as my stick and it really helps.

Mark, that's brilliant. I am thinking driver. feeling where the club face is with my hands.
Get the grip square and the face is square. I must try it.

Great ideas here Mark. That's why they call you the Golf Guru!
World class instruction Mark!
These are great ideas for all levels of golfers.
Great ideas Mark. Question though, when you work on getting forward shaft lean do you also get much higher hands at impact (that is what happens on my end)?
Flat grip on an iron.. you crafty bugger Mark! Nice! Likey and definitely going to see how I can organise..
I know you're using this more of a training aid but is the putter grip illegal to use on a nonputter club
Top stuff mark. One of your best recently. Simple take home skills. Keep them coming.

Really interesting video , love the interaction with Ben to demonstrate the point 😊
Amazing! Shut face - keep it right really works for me! Thanks so much!!!

Great idea for beginners 👍
Here endith the lesson. The GOAT has spoken.
Genius stuff!
Love this video. Love your channel. Can't wait to mess with this over the winter.

That is exceptional advice. Quite ingenious.

Mark, do you think the outer grip would work well for driver practice too?
Have a set of Old Wilson Arnold Palmer irons with the original leather grips that are shaved flat where your palm Fits, Arnold was on the same idea back then, simple but genius.
Great video mark
Mark, what grip did you use for the 3rd example? The putter grip I mean.
I use the Nicklaus putting style - right palm push - very tempted to rotate my putter grip 90deg clockwise. Can't see anything in the Rules that says I shouldn't - what does the team think?
Excellent video!
Excellent practice ideas. Just wondering do you think the align grips would be worth getting next time I get a re grip?
Defo
How does this relate to the driver or is this only for irons/wedges?
The very best grip of all time is the new Golf Pride CPX Midsize. Im not kidding, its a game changer. Has built in ailgnment, you dont need a glove, you get more feedback and its tacky as hell in wet conditions.
hi Mark is it illegal to have putter grips on your clubs in a competition if you like the feeling where the club face is thanks
Yes it is illegal … In my opinion the most stupid rule there is… in every sports where you need to control the clubface you have grips where you can feel the face

Hey Mark, ever thought of inventing some training aid ? End the slice…
Looks to be a crooked grip job, cause the align-line curves on at least the 8-iron.
Could you play with a putter grip on an iron? Is it legal? I do understand that this is a training thing; it was just a thought, why aren’t iron grips made that way
No. Can't have flat sides on anything else other than the putter.
unless you are playing in tournaments, i guess there is nothing to stop you leaving these grips on full time?
Yeah, just bounce games but not for hcap.
Fat flace is a metaphor for my golf 😂
Is the flat face legal?
No as I understand it. Happy to be corrected.
Too bad as I like experimenting with new grip concepts including those monster Bryson grips.
Mark I've had many lessons and they were all a complete waste of money... no explanation of weight shift... no explanation of how lag is produced... you are on another level compared to 99% of teachers, all they want is students to turn up every month to collect their money...
Golf Pride Pro Only Cord Putter Grips

Be sold out everywhere shortly 😂
Who you calling Fat Face. Love the idea of the putter grip.
You teach chipping?
My journey with chipping helps with compassion and understanding of learning. You post comments do you😂

so grip the club open then.

Did you change your right hand grip? It looks very weak. Your left looks string
His grip looks too tight. His pinkies are red
Bra, though I love the Muppet Tour, I appreciate this vid where you're straight teaching fundamentals with a twist.
