  • A brief history of Portugal and the discovery of the world. Portugal was one of the main players in the European Age of Discovery and Exploration. At the beginning of the 16th century, Portugal was the most prosperous nation in the world, thanks to its exploits in navigation, exploration and conquest. It was the first European power to start building a colonial empire and dominated two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. #history #portugalhistory

Let’s be honest we discovered the world first, the unknown. The others followed our routes! We did all of this to spread Christianity all over the world to save all the lost souls, that was the main purpose then we found interest in trade along the way!
Who will put their lives at risk to the unknown if not for an higher purpose like faith and religion?
So there you go...lusitanian navigators were some brave stubborn type of human beings...Real men with HUGE balls...they had a vision and courage to do it and they got the job done the rest is history! 💪🏻🇵🇹

True in with Afonso of Albuquerque, Administration the portuguese had in that time not just ship tecnology most advanced but also in architecture of Fortresses, and guns the best were portuguese, First imported from Nuremberg, and from Bohemia, in Lisbon upgraded with own developers that mixed both advantages from each places in Germany, When arrival at India in Goa portuguese recognized Indians from Goa as great gunsmiths aswell and send many to Lisbon and the king gave them privileges and prizes for them to join portuguese gunsmiths and both create new tecnology hybrid, same tecnology continuously was upgraded, untill arrival at the shores of the Japanese Ottomo clan shores where portuguese created deep cooperation and latter Oda Nobunaga and Mr. Hideyoshi used portuguese guns to unify Japan putting an end to civil war and Japan began industrializing portuguese guns leading to having more guns Japan alone than all Europe combined.

As most people nowdays dont know portuguese didnt fought against Subsaarian kingdoms to get slaves to trade, but bought from kings in Africa slaves, marfim, pelts etc... in exchange for European clothes, wine, spices from India in return and of course guns, portuguese in that era were the best europeans holding gunpowder weaponry, so the African kings acknoledged the portuguese as an advanced civilization and compared to christianism the chronicles speaks for example for more than a century of Friendly trade and diplomatic relations between the king of Portugal and the King of Congo, and how the trade rules were made by Congo and Portuguese respected that, latter centuries when portuguese and Brasilian wanted to end the acquisition of slaves for industry the kingdom of Congo were deeply against the end of slave trade because was the life blood of his kingdom in XVII and XVIII century aswell.

When the Portuguese arrived in Africa to trade first time, one of the trading goods from the African tribes, was Slaves, African tribes and Kingdoms had slaves to sell. Roman, Greeks, Egypt had slaves… But until the Portuguese arrive was not possible to cross the continents with goods (salves included). So this ideia who started to have slaves is quite distant from the perspective. The Portuguese were the first to move slaves between continents by sea.

Portugal single handed ended the Islamic golden age by cutting their trade lifeline. When they expected troubles in the Mediterranian, the Portuguese suddenly attacked them from the rear in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea and kicked them out of the Indian Ocean. Without the income from the spice trade the Islamic powers of the Levante simply went broke and the Ottoman Empire became the Sick Man of the Bosporus. This was the ultimate revange for the Muslim invasion of Iberia centuries before. The Muslim world never recovered for 400 years, until someone found petroleum in the Arabian desert.
As a side effect, they also put the Italian maritime powers out of business, since their trade model was based on buying spices from the Ottomans and never thinking about skipping that middle man and going to the source directly. This made Italy an economic backwater for centuries.

Farther South in Eastern Canada - America eventually there was another colony starting up called Roanoke which from what I've gathered points to it being a joint venture by the English & the Portuguese until it was destroyed by either the French, Spanish, Italians or Dutch .. but for sure not destroyed by the Natives like some would like us to believe, making it another colony amongst many world wide by the great Portuguese Empire which happens to be the first Global Empire & the longest lasting Global Empire over 600 years.. & first Nation to launch > the Age of Discovery < .,.,.. Just because Hollywood ignores this remarkable little country's great & unmatched still today achievements & its hero's doesn't mean it didn't happen, it just means the Vatican & Italian corrupted arm reaches very far away from Rome. Vatican till today has never forgiven Portugal for helping the Templars from certain death by the hands of French king & Vatican Pope & not to mention Portugal taking the center of the known universe at the time away from Venice making Oporto ( Porto ) then Lisboa ( Lisbon ) the new Centers of our known universe didn't help either :) .
