As a Sri Lankan I want to say first person who spoke is a student from University of Kelaniya(as you can see from logo in his shirt) and clearly see how out of touch our university students these days and show the broken education system in Sri Lanka. Most of university students in Sri Lanka thinks that there are no poor homeless people in western countries. Sri Lanka bankrupted 2 years ago because lack of financial literacy in people specially students like this. They don't even know how much India has developed. Most of the university students in Sri Lanka don't know anything about geopolitics and how big influence India has in this part of the world. They mostly used their human capital to make their success. Great India was successfully able to manage many multi-cultures, multi-languages, and multi-religious on their way to success. I love their philosophy, strategies, Cinema, Food, and people most. Sri Lanka can only grow by maintaining our long-lasting relationship with India. I know our nation's education level is high but literacy level is very poor. When it comes to average political, economic, financial, and geopolitical the average literacy is far behind India.
Bollywood is currently declining in Sri Lanka. Bollywood had its peak in 90s. Today Sri Lankans who are listening to Arijit Singh are relatively very small comparing to the popularity Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik had in Sri Lanka. Of cause SRK is still the most famous actor in Sri Lanka. But in the last decade south indian movies taken over the hearts and minds of Sri Lankans. I've been to India several times. When I visited the North and South, I noticed that the South was much cleaner and reminded me a lot of Sri Lanka. People in the South were really friendly and humble. As a Sri Lankan who's not used to crowded places or heavy traffic, I found the North overwhelming. There was a lot of traffic and constant honking of horns. People didn't seem to follow traffic rules. Nobody wore seat belts. Bike riders often didn't wear helmets either. Nobody took the traffic light seriously. Maybe the road rules are not very strict there. Other than that, both North and South food is amazing. During our last visit, my family avoided street food and locals food shops based on our past experiences there, but we still got sick with diarrhea on our last day. Despite that, the food was totally worth it! ;) Also shopping in India is amazing!!
Same. I also went to Sri Lanka's capital city Colombo, and being from Delhi NCR, I got bored to death as there was literally nothing, nothing to do when compared to big cities of India. So I just spent my days on the beach. But everything was worth it!

Lol... India's poverty rate is around 11-12% while SL's is 26%. Further, in India the poverty rate is declining fast while in SL it's increasing. India also helped SL to come out of the financial crisis (literally bankruptcy). Still they think there is more poverty in India. Yes, our average population is not rich but they are no more hand to mouth. They are earning, they are saving, their children are getting educated. Also, Infrastructure, businesses are booming and India is the fastest growing major economy. Rightnow there are millions of millionaires in India beacuse the wealth is not accumulated in the hands of some 100-200 people as some of you may think. Those who have accumulated wealth are already giving jobs to lakhs of Indians and even sone foreigners. I've travelled to many places there delhi, Agra, jaipur, fatehpur sikri, allahabad(sangam period), benares, bodhgaya,kakirao, kolkota, mumbai, chennai, bangalore. My favorite place though is Kolkota. India is full of art wherever you go. Indian people are mostly very creative and hard working. They are excellent artists, poets. Calling India a poor country is not inaacurate. Our middle class is growing, but more than 30% live below the poverty line and about 60% of the popluation makes less than INR 200/day. As a Sri Lankan I think India is a great country and growing rapidly. And it will become a very powerful country in the future But one thing I don’t like is they have brought a bad image of South Asia and south Asians to the world. When the rest of the world think of South Asia they compare all the countries in the region to India and think it is similar. Reputation of India and Indians in the world is bad because of various reasons like pollution and unhygienic conditions, extreme poverty,female sexually assault, religious extremisms, scammers, terrorism etc. when the rest of the world have a bad image of the region it affects everyone living in that region even though you are living in a separate country. If India is able to improve their image in the world it will be very beneficial for the region.
As an indian I also agree with you but these conditions are worst in countries like bangladesh, pakistani, Afghanistan. I think only sri lanka is relatively cleaner than these countries. To be honest, as a Sri Lankan who lives in Australia, I have many Indian friends. We consider them as our relatives as where ever we go, we help each other and become friends very well than any other nations when living outside asia. I have been in India many times including Chennai, mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hydrabad. I know these cities are very developed and lots of poor people there as well. People say India is not clean. I thinknthe reason is too many population. It's really hard to maintain the cleaniness when too many people are there. Also there is a huge gap in education levels. So obviously thats pretty normal. But I must say Indian foods are incredible. As a vegetarian, i can servive where ever I go in the worlds, thanks to Indian foods. All in all, Indians and Sri Lankans are very much close to each other interms of thinking pattern, culture, caring. We can clearly say this as we are living in a different part of the world. As a Sri Lankan I want to say first person who spoke is a student from University of Kelaniya(as you can see from logo in his shirt) and clearly see how out of touch our university students these days and show the broken education system in Sri Lanka. Most of university students in Sri Lanka thinks that there are no poor homeless people in western countries. Sri Lanka bankrupted 2 years ago because lack of financial literacy in people specially students like this. They don't even know how much India has developed. Most of the university students in Sri Lanka don't know anything about geopolitics and how big influence India has in this part of the world. If these people(specially university students) watch news at least once a month they can see how India is investing massive amount of money in Sri Lanka

I've been to India several times. When I visited the North and South, I noticed that the South was much cleaner and reminded me a lot of Sri Lanka. People in the South were really friendly and humble. As a Sri Lankan who's not used to crowded places or heavy traffic, I found the North overwhelming. There was a lot of traffic and constant honking of horns. People didn't seem to follow traffic rules. Nobody wore seat belts. Bike riders often didn't wear helmets either. Nobody took the traffic light seriously. Maybe the road rules are not very strict there. Other than that, both North and South food is amazing. During our last visit, my family avoided street food and locals food shops based on our past experiences there, but we still got sick with diarrhea on our last day. Despite that, the food was totally worth it! ;) Also shopping in India is amazing!!

I've travelled to many places there delhi, Agra, jaipur, fatehpur sikri, allahabad(sangam period), benares, bodhgaya,kakirao, kolkota, mumbai, chennai, bangalore. My favorite place though is Kolkota. India is full of art wherever you go. Indian people are mostly very creative and hard working. They are excellent artists, poets. As a Sri Lankan I think India is a great country and growing rapidly. And it will become a very powerful country in the future But one thing I don’t like is they have brought a bad image of South Asia and south Asians to the world. When the rest of the world think of South Asia they compare all the countries in the region to India and think it is similar. Reputation of India and Indians in the world is bad because of various reasons like pollution and unhygienic conditions, extreme poverty,female sexually assault, religious extremisms, scammers, terrorism etc. when the rest of the world have a bad image of the region it affects everyone living in that region even though you are living in a separate country. If India is able to improve their image in the world it will be very beneficial for the region.

As an indian I also agree with you but these conditions are worst in countries like bangladesh, pakistani, Afghanistan. I think only sri lanka is relatively cleaner than these countries. And very few people in the world is aware of sri lanka as a country so the image od south asia prove true cuz these are the relaity.

I think that guy meant India is a rich country but the majority are poor as income distribution is very uneven. He said that in the middle. Please don't misunderstand. That is a language problem. To be honest, as a Sri Lankan who lives in Australia, I have many Indian friends. We consider them as our relatives as where ever we go, we help each other and become friends very well than any other nations when living outside asia. I have been in India many times including Chennai, mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hydrabad. I know these cities are very developed and lots of poor people there as well. People say India is not clean. I thinknthe reason is too many population. It's really hard to maintain the cleaniness when too many people are there. Also there is a huge gap in education levels. So obviously thats pretty normal. But I must say Indian foods are incredible. As a vegetarian, i can servive where ever I go in the worlds, thanks to Indian foods. All in all, Indians and Sri Lankans are very much close to each other interms of thinking pattern, culture, caring. We can clearly say this as we are living in a different part of the world. Have you heard about gini coefficient? It is the measurement of disparity between rich and poor.
