I remember having the first Game Boy like it was yesterday (in the mid to late 90s I think). Now I am playing the Switch. I can’t even believe how far we have gone tech-wise.
last November me and my 8th grade class were at a super boring play and all of my class mates were getting yelled at by the teacher for using there phones. he could see the backlight from the second floor. but he never caught me using my non backlit gameboy. the room had just enough light for me to see so that non backlit feature came in handy XD
I remember playing mine in the backseat on a family trip in the dark. I had the Light Boy accessory. That was enough then. Memories, man. I still play and have some of those games and they kick ass even now.
At the time, this was revolutionary. Before, you could only have 8-Bit graphics at home with the NES, and for Game & Watch, each system only had one game. The Game Boy fixed both of these issues.
You just had to be there to see just how epic Game Boy was when it was released. Before that the only player in town when it came to handheld gaming was Tiger and their hordes of crappy LCD games. With GB we finally had real video games that we could take with us anywhere. Even if the color palette was limited to black & greenish-yellow, it was still utterly mindblowing.
lmao yeah, good luck seeing that in a dark theatre. You'd have to wait until the light scenes like we had to wait until going over street lights back in the day
I carry mine everywhere. I have it in a water-resistant Ziplock bag, together with Super Breakout/BattleZone and Galaxian/Galaga cartridges, it is nice being able to carry an early 1980’s Arcade wherever I go, it’s my best friend in a way, it’s always on my person, always.
I still have my Game Boy Color I am currently playing Mia Hamm Soccer Shootout (Southpeak Interactive) I also have Tetris and Barbie Game Girl (Hi Tech Expressions)
The contrast dial adjust the brightness of the screen from light green to dark forest green. And also the game doesn't always have to be Tetris. It can be any game. I have Super Mario Land.
I had one around the launch. now I'm watching this on my smart phone that i can run every game boy game on and probably most older console games and I have a Nintendo switch like everyone else here 1990 me would have been completely amazed
Taking interchangeable home console quality games out of the home is now as seemless as possible. With the Switch, all that Andrew had to do was just connect the Joycons to to tablet console, take it out of the dock and viola! Now if you only carried at least a slingbag, then yes, you can take anywhere where the Game Boy goes.
doing this now but on my miyoo mini! the kids these days are lucky. rechargeable batteries, bright back lit screens, downloadable games, able to play multiple consoles, customizable buttons.
I was thinking of making a deltarune au where all the characters were replaced by people’s self inserts. Spamton would be replaced by my character, a monochrome Vaporeon with a tuxedo on his front legs and body, as well as some glasses with blue and green lenses. I was looking for some lyrics to sample for his “Now’s your chance to be a”, and then it hit me: what if the lyrics were from a gameboy commercial? Now I’m here, and can safely say that these lyrics are perfect.
If my Dad ever just pulled the plug while in the middle of my game...he would so be going out into the cornfields that night to playtag with He Who Walks Behind The Rows.💀
The cartridges look so weird in the demo units the kids have. Also the cartridge labels featured aren't the North American ones at all. This was definitely filmed before all of that was ironed out.
This isn’t an exaggeration. Old tube TVs literally exploded tires they were so heavy. Sometimes you had to call the fire department to help you move a new tube tv into your house because you didn’t have a big enough family to
I remember watching these stupid commercials. But at the time they were so cool, epsically during alf and other cool shows. Shit remeber the encyclopedia Britannica dude with the cool shoes...

Me on a date with my girlfriend:So what do you like to do to have fun?. "Girlfriend playing the gameboy". Me:Hello? Hey?. Girlfriend:Shhh I'm trying to beat a level in mickeys dangerous chase.
The 80's commercial music is so goddamn epic, it's drowning out the 80's voice-over guy.
Yeah but the music is so damn loud you can t hear the voice-over guy
@@Dcraft220 That’s what he just said

Same. I spend hundreds of hours on my original Gameboy. Which I should still have around here somewhere.
0:53 "You can take it to a boring picture show" Yeah along with a big ass flashlight to piss everyone else off in the theater
Seriously! There is no way he could possibly see the green screen in that dark room...

You still have your old GameBoy when you were a kid?
Sound guy must’ve had a personal grudge against the narrator.
Hahaha
😂
This is one of the most 80's videos i have ever watched with the synthwave track in the background. Thanks for sharing
You meant foreground. The narration is in the background lol

Yeah, music too loud
Yes you can 🙄 i heard it just fine 🤷♂️

Not really the lynx was 16 bit and had a color screen
@@Gillian_Seed but the GameBoy’s battery power lasted longer than the Lynx
The Microvision did this before
The music was trying to explain the gameboy, in its frustration it played louder.
_Play it LOUD!_
I love how the music gets so high and drowns out the guy talking
🎵You can take it to a boring picture show!🎵 Made me LOL back in the day, and still does today.
30 years of Game Boy (1989 - 2019) 🎂
35 now and it's still going strong!

Not without any light you can't...
Lmao true, unless you have the Light Boy accessory
Now you’re playing with incredibly loud music!
Cool! I've never seen this video before!
The first time I saw it was on July 21, 2019, before the blackout at my house.
These were shown at department stores. I remember seeing this at Hills.
They were so proud of the music they just had to play it over the announcer
Those were the good old days of Nintendo and I remember it well. These days you don’t see much of the original gameboy by Nintendo.
The Game Boy: A miracle device that planted the seeds to its successor: Nintendo Switch.

I used to own an SNES, but I don't know what we did it.(It was old anyway.)
