Becomes doll to avoid becoming a puppet.
Nailed it.
Possessing a doll to manifest physically and becoming a puppet are entirely different prospects. You wouldn't want to stick nails into a possessed doll trust me. You'd suffer dire and inescapable consequences.
I mean it's not like she is like everyone turned by Seluvis she is actually free ya know
@@thefalsebaconingpossessed dolls aren’t real
The irony... but jokes aside, she has more control over her doll self than she did her actual body due to being free from the greater will's suggestive influence.
Considering it seems that being god in a ethereal way with ways to interact with the physical world is possible. It's likley it's possible to return to a different body.
As we saw with the graven witch, it's possible. Then coupled with the whole dlc and miquella, it seems it was less about her and more to remove the fingers from any power in their world.

@KiyoKami_ basically she wants a world where humans are free to choose foe themselves and control their own fate. And no god controlling their fate. So she takes herself and her empty order as far away feom humanity as possible. From now on humans will choose for themselves, if they want peace, it's their choice, if they want war and suffering, fine, their choice.

I like the theory that the reason it had to be Godwyn was that they were betrothed and so a link between them already existed. A link that Ranni would use to have him die in soul so she could die in body.
I don't remember where I first heard this theory, but it's definitely within the realm of plausibility imho. There's more to it, but I sadly can't even recall where I first heard it. I think it may have been either Smoughtown or Tarnished Archaeologist.

@@Mr.Silence. @Mr.Silence. If you won't see this thoroughly, yes.
Erase greater will and grace for a fate of stars.
At the first sight Fate is much more fair than Grace of Gold,
Because Grace can be given and taken, on a god whim, and you can see if someone has grace or not (by their eyes). Fate is written in stars, and may be thought it is unreachable.
So the people have their destiny and influence, their will.
Well a bit of sweet truth which covers the bitter truth.
The thing is that stars aren't unreachable same as the Fate.
It can be reached via magical crystals, which is specialization of Astrologers, wizard's predecessors.
When you reach the stars you can warp them and bend the will of person connected to the star, making they your puppet.
And Carians specializes in this.
Ranni doesn't want to free people of the influence of gods to bring them free will like some messiah.
She just want to be with the power to rule everyone, she just want to take place of the golden lineage. It is influence war.
Besides in terms of actions she is very similiar to the Miquella.
The are very few characters in Elden ring that can be considered as good, and Ranni isn't one of them.
Keep in mind this is a short. While Ranni definitively made the black knives (the weapons, not the group), we don't know that she was giving them orders. She also must have known they planned to kill a demigod. Wether she commanded them or even knew who exactly they meant to kill is unclear. Personally, the black knives killing her servant Iji and seemingly trying to bust into her tower before being killed by Blaidd makes me beleive she only worked with them that once out of a temporary shared interest. There is some lore that suggests Marika herself may have been in charge of the Black Knives, though nothing concrete. Ultimately, FromSoft doesn't like giving us all the answers, so we likely will never know how much Ranni did or even knew in regards to the assassination.
Something we (or at least I) don’t know is why did Godwyn need to die in spirit
Ranni had to die to escape Two Fingers control. But if she wanted to live, then she’d need to die only halfway. But if she died only halfway then someone else would have to die the other half. Which halves? Physical and spiritual self, the “body” (Godwyn) and the “soul/spirit” (Ranni).

without ranni, thered be no elden ring to play.
And Alecto was the trigger.
Theres a theory of how Marika already planned to smash the Elden Ring before Godwyn Death, proves being the Tarnisheds stuff and her voice in the Leyndell Outskirt church that Melina talks about, if that theory is true then without Ranni and Miyazaki style of making you beat every single Demigod, you and i would probally have the chance to ride Fortisax and beating other Demigods
Summary: Ranni escaped the matrix
But how did she make the black knives do it? They are supposed to only obey Marika's order. There is a theory Marika helped her, but nothing concrete behind, so far.
No the black knife assassins work for ranni. All the women who wear the black knife armor are numen women from the eternal cities. Marika and nobody in the capital knew of the plot. Marika literally removed death from the lands between in order to keep her children and herself safe. It’s this very reason that Ranni had to actually steal a piece of death back to be able to finally kill something. Marika would have never wanted this because she tried so hard to make sure nobody could die.
Maybe something to do with Radagon? I think it's confirmed that Marika and Radagon are the same person, like they both live within Marika's body.
I thought the Black Knives answered to nobody? I know they are supposedly Numen, but I thought it was unclear who their real controller was, or at least what their goals were
@@havenswainston BKA killed Iji, what part of that is working for Ranni? They didn't work for Ranni they worked WITH ranni is more plausible.
Because the greater will banished the numens and their eternal cities underground so they despise them.
Alternative plan: let Godwin be elden lord and make sure he lives so she stays unaffected by the greater will
That wouldn't work, Ranni and Miquella are Empyreans, they're candidates to become gods like Marika and everything in game points towards Miquella succeeding Marika, Ranni would probably be killed by her shadow (Blaidd) or some zealot from the golden order for failing to become a god.
This however doesn't mean or justify that killing her brother was the right move, like from lore present in game Godwyn was a nice guy, he wasn't a power hungry dick head or a religious zealot, he literally made peace with the dragons and he is the reason as to why the golden order allows the worship of dragons.
You have to remember that Ranni isn't just doing this to avoid being controlled by the Greater Will. She is doing thos be abuse there is an Outer God she follows that she wishes to usurp the Greater Will. She hails to the god that her mother followed on her youth before marrying Radagon and uniting with the Golden Order. So killing Godwyn wasn't just killing her step brother who seemed like a good guy, but striking down one of the most ardent, strident, and strongest defenders and champions of The Greater Will and the Golden Order. If we're talking about sending a message and really disrupting the Golden Order, it almost HAD to be him.
@@KakeemDude4 almost forgot about that.

"Who is ranni the witch"
My wife
She’s a baddie, that’s who she is
Do you think she colluded with Queen Marika to set off the events of Elden Ring since they both technically wanted to escape the control of the Greater Will.
That is nonsense because Marika although depressed but still not stupid enough to kill her prized son. She broke it because of grief when she found out that her son was dead and the Greater Will could not do anything about it (because Godwyn was killed in the souls thus prevented Godwyn’s revival by the Erdtree). Ranni did this to bring down the Golden Order, had her revenge against Marika, Radagon and to pursue her own agenda (replace the Greater Will with the Dark Moon)
@@viethoangtruong54 She didn't break it out of of grief, you are ignoring the rest of her lore. She set up the tarnished returning for example to usurp the elden ring when the elden beast makes the thorns to stop us which is why we have to burn the tree and why Marika birthed Melina whose soul purpose was to do just that.
As much as I dislike Ranni’s actions with the Night of the Black Knives, what’s done is done. And there’s no going back. So I finish her storyline, freeing her even though I don’t do her ending. No one deserved to be shackled to the whims of the Outer Gods. (Aiming for Duskborn or Goldmasks’ ending this play through just to see how I feel)
Do we ever get an answer for how her and Melina are connected? I know when the game first came out, people thought they were the same person, but I've seen some people saying Melina is the daughter of Marika and Radagon
Messmer is Marika's firstborn son, and it's also implied that Melina is his younger sister, which would likely mean that Melina is Marika's firstborn daughter, which would make Ranni and Melina half-siblings.

What's the background song ? (It's not the main menu song)
"It is decided. I shalt not be a puppet to the Greater Will. How then might I free myself from such a fate? Ah, the answer is clear. A simple yet foolproof plan: I shall steal a fragment of the Rune of Death from yon menacing hound. With it, I shall end mine own life and that of mine half-brother Godwin, though he be unrelated to mine destiny. Thus, I shall be free, and he shall be... dead. A perfect plan, indeed." Ranny's plan in a nutshell
I mean that skips the part where she killed herself to be free of her empyrian body so as to personally divorce herself from the greater will, moreover her plan continues to the part of overthrowing marika so she can extend her newfound freedom from the greater will/golden order to the rest of the lands between.
You tried buddy
Metyr remembrance description says that Ranni wouldn't become a puppet of Greater will but fingers that were abandoned and did will no other than what they were instructed during Crucible and dragons age.

@@mihaimercenarul7467 neutral wouldn’t be right, because she wants freedom for humans from the manipulation of gods and outer gods
It's still a mystery why Ranni and the Black Knives chose Godwyn to die and why the BK follow Ranni when they were associates of Marika and they kill her son?
black knife assassins are baddies
Rani is Kewai/Kawai
I mean if they just craved the rest of the rune of death into godwyn wouldn't he die a true death and the death root would stop sprouting and maybe revived by the erdtree
Probably, but the Black Knife's kinda just dipped after killing Godwyn's soul, and we know the other demi-gods knew that Godwyn hadn't died a true death but they didn't know how to kill him properly.
After we become elden lord we could probably try and find where the original mark was carved into Godwyn, but considering how much his body has grown and deformed it might be difficult to find.

What I still don’t understand… why did she target Godwyn? And not Marika??
I suppose a theory I could pose is because Godwyn was the standard bearer of the golden order of which Ranni despised? Still not exactly sure why you wouldn’t just try to kill Marika directly though. But of course if that happened then the game wouldn’t go down as it does then, would it..
Demigod vs God I think
Marika might have been involved since Maliketh was screaming that Marika betrayed him
Godwyn couldn't become God because he wasn't an Empyrean, he could become the consort of whomever obtained all the runes of the elden ring
I think that Ranni didn't target Marika since she's a full on god while Godwyn is just a demi-god and no matter what happens it would allow Ranni to escape her fate by essentially commiting "self-deletion" at the same time that Godwyn or any other demi-god died. She just chose the most "safest" option but I'm not really sure about this theory either.
i believe that another reason is that to achieve a "full" death, she needed the death of a body and soul of beings similar to each other. So it had to be a demi-god or empyrian whos soul she rent, in order for her to be free of her own body. Godwin, being the "golden child" who embodied the golden order and followed the greater will's teachings the closest was the likeliest candidate, since he would have directly gone against her plans in order to preserve the golden order. She was also close enough to her siblings (radahn and rykard) that she didnt want to sacrifice one of them. miquella and malenia were too difficult for her to destroy, and mogh and morgott were still locked in the subterranean shunning grounds. godrick may have been a choice too, but was seen as more of a fanatic than a true follower, and often seen as the runt of the litter, leading to godwin being the best choice by far.
This is precisely why her ending is objectively the best.
I like the goldmask ending.
@@leinadneyugn1132meh way too open for assumptions and empty interpretations. Not to mention a very boring quest that forces you to put points into faith and the ending is just a reskin of the elden lord cutscene.

I don't get it when people worship Godwyn too much. His depiction is too perfect just like Miquella before the DLC. And he is also described as a hero of the golden order. This seems like a cool title at first but being a perfect hero for a system that commited genocide, enthic cleansing,... means he had to relate to all this somehow.
And another thing makes me feel off is his own corpse. It's the most creepy thing ever unlike any others.
W Ranni
Then why do you find Iiji dead surrounded by black knife assassins? If they’re under her control, why would she kill her own loyal war counselor?
Because Ranni fooled them by leading them to believe that she was dead and led the entire group to be hunted down and blamed for the death of Godwyn (Ranni is the mastermind, the assassins are just pawns under her command). That is why when they finally found out about her location (the two fingers tipped them), they arrived at the location to kill all of Ranni and her companions.
What does this have to do with the DLC
Was Ranni the one who ordered Iji and Blaidd to be assassinated? As you progress her quest you see the Black Knife Assassins go after them, is that by Rannis command?
No, the Black Knife assassins were targeting Ranni, but she was long gone.
@@FricknA oh interesting, yet they worked with her as assassin's to trigger this whole event? What changed?
It's honestly actually unclear, but she does tell you to "use them as you see fit" referring to her loyal friends (plus seluvis) so I'm not really sure she's such a good person
@@Sirperfluous The blackknives do their own thing. Once their deal is done they turn on ranni by most likely rejoining the two fingers as that is what Ranni kills at the end of her quest. She wishes the best for iji and blaiid but both them and her knew the risks and followed the path anyway
Did we not learn from Mogh? All lore pointed him to be a disgusting being. We learned in the dlc that he was a victim. Though him worshipping an outer god who only makes their appearance when there's unimaginable war and carnage does not make him the saint that many people make him out to be after the revelation. Why are we still assuming the same thing with Godwyn? We know nothing of who he truly was besides vague item descriptions and unreliable word of mouth. All we know is that he was Marika's favorite, a title that is questionable considering what she has done to her other children who didn't meet her expectations. He was a devout follower of the order, a religion that encouraged the discrimination, torture, and GENOCIDE of people who were not touched by the Erdtree's light. And he befriended an ancient dragon only because it didn't conflict with the values of the golden order. Wow, what a paragon of equality and virtue. Godwyn isn't as saintly as the fans like to think he is, and Ranni isn't as devious as the fans paint her out to be.
She is my cool space wife next questjon

I just thought of something. Why do we as players still get to resurecct when killed by a black knife assassin? IF theyre whole deal was the ability to kill in a land of immortals why are they not... scarier to fight?
There are already games that have enemies like this.
Let's say it lightly that most people aren't very fond of these mechanics, that's why those games are less popular than like for example Elden ring that doesn't have this mechanic.
Gameplay reasons
They were only able to kill Godwyn by physically carving half of the rune of death into him, so I can only guess that their fragment of the rune of death can't permanently kill someone unless they carve the rune onto someone, and our players bodies turns into motes of light and resurrects before any of them have the chance to carve the rune into us.
So dungeater was right all along, right?...
How could rahdahn be ranni brother if he appear in shadow
I think there are some paintings with them in Rykhard mansion
Since we already killed him, it allowed him to go to the realm of shadow since you have to abandon your body or some shit, and the only reason he has a body is because they used mohgs corpse, that's why he can use some bloodflame in his fight in the dlc

That’s the beauty of her character! When I first played, I thought she was a victim of the system and was doing what she could to free herself from it. But when I played again and did Fia’s quest first, and Ranni is so different if your character knows what she’s done; it’s like you’re dealing with a mob boss. Ranni knows what she looks like and how to manipulate people, and I have no doubts that every simp has fallen for her because they don’t know her true nature: a witch who would doom the world for her own sake.
