I found Max's videos today, by accident. I am a newbie....and so glad you have gone and done what he asked...for people to try it out. I am new, about to purchase my first nuc this month....and....I want to do this. Thank you for giving your time so we can have a chance to figure out how to do it right .....I have subscribed and am sure you will have over 10k subs soon.
Thank you. Up until a couple of weeks ago it would have been a challenge to put bees into a system still being developed. I was hoping to catch a swarm, but the weather here has been dismal (still below 55 on most nights) and few bees to be seen. I may still see if I can track down a 1 or 2 pound box. Of course if someone in the Pacific Northwest wants to donates some... :-)
curious, could you use a traditional brood box on the bottom and then mount the honey super bottles on top? seems like it might be easier vs making frames for the bottles. then you could use a similar mounting system that you're using for the landing area to attach the bottle to the brood box.
Hi. This is really amazing approach of beekeeping. This year a want to start with warre hive but this seems even more simple than warre. But I have one question. How is it with wintering of bees in this bottle hive? I live in Slovakia and there we have sometimes about -10 to -20 °C during winter. Is these insulation enough for such low temperatures.
This is really just a Warre observation hive. I follow Warre principles. Two layers of the closed cell foam has the equivalent R value of 8.3 cm (1 1/2") wood and the "Thunder Dome" allows you to use a ventilated top insulation box. This is based on Advoko Makes bottle beehives in St. Petersburg, Russia. (It gets cold there :-) ) 1. Watch Advoko Makes video: ruclips.net/video/9ItlOFLTUAs/видео.html 2. I don't sell them, but there is a multi-part series on how to build your own (as well as how to build out the frames for the bottles, etc. Go to the channel page ruclips.net/channel/UCYB7bVuYS_f811TA-7aKkAwfeatured and scroll down to the playlists for "Entrance & tree mount" and "Round bottle construction". Keep us update on your progress and if you need to email me, the address is on the channel page under the "About" tab.
what country are you located in? Almost everything in the videos can be found at Walmart and Home Depot in the US. The few specific tools, etc. have links in the description for Amazon.
I hate to break it to you - I make no money on these videos. NONE. Zip. Nada. In fact, it has cost me a lot of time and my own money. RUclips doesn't monetize until you have over 10,000 subscribers. Check it out for yourself. What I am doing at my own expense is what Max asked for...other people to try out his methods.
Great explanations! Thx for offering insights to bottle beekeeping.
Very well made and helpful guide
