I bought a Duster, new, in 2016 and I was prepared to 'forgive it' a lot considering the low price. Well...no need; it's been, and still is, really good. Two and a half years and 70, 000 km later nothing squeaks, nothing rattles, nothing's fallen off. The only thing that's failed is one headlight bulb; replaced at a cost of just €6.00 and replaced myself in less than 2 minutes. It's comfortable, the cruise control works, the (Renault) satnav is accurate and pop it into 6th and it's a very relaxed cruuser. Deals with potholes well too. I've had quite a few cars in my time, some so called 'prestige' brands, some so called 'reliable' brands - that haven't been - and as an overall package none is as good as this. Yes, tge interiir trim has a fair bit of hard pladtic but as I ssy...none of it rattles or squeaks, none of it's broken. It's incredibly kind on tyres too. An awful ot of tread left, frontband rear, on the Continental rubber fitted. Very economical too with the Renault 1.5 engine. I love this thing...an honest car, a Renault/Nissan in disguise.

So I was loaned a Duster from a local dealer and drove it all day. Bonded with it quickly and found it to be very comfortable, well screwed together inside and very good at soaking up bumps and ruts. Around town and B roads engine (1.6 115) was just fine but struggled on long ascents even with cruise control on it just didn't have the torque to keep at speed. However car was much quieter than I expected and it drove respectably well, in fact I'd say it was refined and despite what another review said the stereo is excellent. On good inspection I noticed some shortcuts so good to mention them: Carpets more like felt, Front wings so thin and flexible could be pulled out of shape by hand. Metal inside rear arches also thin, paint inside door shuts not to same standard as exterior and close up inside wings (with door wide open) a few little lumps and bumps. Also drive shafts already orange with rust. Seen this on all Dacia dusters. BUT and a big but I actually really enjoyed my time with the new Duster, I even hit 90 MPH to see how it felt and it was just fine. The handling is perfectly good, it gripped well, didn't succumb to serious understeer (or body roll) and felt well balanced and nimble (thanks to the thin metal!). I swung it around familiar country roads and not once caused ASR to kick in. The brakes were strong, steering light (not awful either) and the turning circle was great. I returned back to the dealer really impressed. This is certainly way more car than what it needs to be for the price. I might buy one just for weekend camping trips!
Thank you very much for sharing the feeling on twisty roads, which was a problem according with the other review. Maybe then only highway speed for long distance trips will be too much for the car, or you think it will handle? I travel a 1000 km trip 3-4 times per year.

Great review, which focuses on who the car is for and what it is worth to them, not people who will axe it on its badge alone. If you can look past the badge, this is (for a small/mid-size SUV) a very well designed car, it looks fresh and well balanced. It's a real shame that it isn't available with the TCe125 yet (it is on some other countries) , I think that engine completes the car as a very worthy alternative to its competitors.
Very fair. I tried one and liked it, in fact I bought a logan Mcv stepway for the extra carrying capacity. The French are buying these in preference to the kadjar.
The duster is hands down the best budget suv on the planet. Ive driven the new one and also the 2017 model. Drove 4x2 models on mountains, narrows passes, hills pretty much everywhere, it always felt like a 4x4 although it was a 4x2 model. Can imagine the 4x4 model. Top stuff... i even driven it in off roads in Italy spain... amazed and amazed my fellow passengers. Top car well done dacia.
Whilst I wouldn’t buy one myself (not yet) it is astonishingly good value. It may not be that powerful but it is on par with many vehicles from a decade ago. My father-in-law has had 2 Sanderos with the 900 cc, 90 bhp engine and they are pretty decent and almost ludicrously cheap.
I have a 1.5 Turbo diesel duster. I do not agree about the comment in the review relating to engine punch. I find 115 BHP to be ample. Acceleration is good . Drove it many times through 2 feet plus snow with no problems at all. Very good value for money.I am happy with it.
Thanks for a great review, Ginny. I've seen a couple of these new models in the metal and they really look very good inside and out. I don't really understand the current crossover/SUV obsession, but it makes a lot of sense with the Duster, because there's simply so much space for the money. The barefaced cheek of other manufacturers charging almost double for a car of the same size makes Dacia a very attractive proposition indeed. These cars deserve to be a lot more popular than they are, but there are a lot of badge snobs in Britain.
Couldn’t be more right about badge snobs in Britain, but because you can get such good lease deals on nice cars people get those instead to show off😂 there seems to be a culture in the UK that you use your car to show off your ‘status’ if you like (or at least try to big it up😆)
Matt Watson's 'Carwow' review was overly critical. To say he spent years on here giving honest, rounded reviews, left me a little surprised. I'm glad to see 'Carbuyer' have stuck to what they're good at.
Nice to watch a review that's full of commonsense and lacks snobbery. I've never owned one as I'm a secondhand car buyer but I can see these cars would be an excellent choice for those with modest incomes or who just wanted a practical car at a sensible price.
Took delivery of my duster comfort a few days ago and I can't praise the car enough. The review carwow did nearly put me off, so glad I ignored it. If anyone buys one and notices a blue oil light come on when the engine first starts up don't panic like I did, it's just showing u the engine is cold and will clear when up to normal running temperature.
I'm not a badge snob when it comes to cars. Motorbikes, yeah, i have them for fun but I'm not after thrills with a car, they all have the same top speed in a traffic jam. It just needs to be practical and reliable which every owner seems to say with this. Will seriously consider it.
Great and ideal for a beginner/new driver. No point buying astronomically expensive cars nowadays they loose ridiculous value the moment they leave the dealer and are on the road. My first car was a fiat panda sergio tacchinini. I loved that car, it was so reliable aaahh good times. 😊
One of the VW sporty Golf models has rap around front side lights. If the LEDs fail or it gets a bit damaged the whole unit has to be replaced at a cost of over £700.!? What price a fancy badge? Some of the very expensive cars have so much computer crap in them that if a small inexpensive chip fails it cost thousands in strip down/re-build costs!
It all comes down to what people want in a car, what your budget is, a single person, or married w/children. All the bells and whistles or basic model. I wanted a Jeep Compass Latitude, it fit my budget, the winters are rough here in Chicago and I need 4 wheel drive. It has AC and heat. Do I care what people think....nope. It gets me where I need to be and that’s all that matters. It’s pretty sad if people judge others on what they drive. I love the British perspective on cars and what they prefer in automobiles/suvs. Have a great day everyone!🌷🌺😎🌹
Her review of the Jeep is rather negative, almost to the point that it's obvious she doesn't like the brand. You'd probably see more 'dusters' on the road here in the UK than you would 'Jeeps' to be honest. I have a renegade and absolutely love it and would never change it for one of these Dacia's. We all like something different, it's what makes the world go around.
I’m a fan of this 2018 Dacia duster I especially like the design of it look very good bought one last year predige model top of the line and I just adore if it has 40000 miles on it since I last bought it and had one thing wrong with it the air conditioning donst work but had it fixed by the dealer on warranty absolute gem to drive the cars tyres definitely give it the look with the desert orange paint just a shame donst have a 7 seater option other then that I just love it.
True, more realistic review. Worthwhile spending a bit more for top model with a/c. Diesel Engine has been proven to be powerful and reliable. Had a dci for 15 years myself and I miss it. A friend of mine got a diesel Duster and spends all the time running about on mainland Europe, and he does not complain.
My parents have just brought this model and are waiting for the financials to check out. I have yet to see it but form what I have read and seen it looks great and I can not wait to try it, we also have a new engine as well.
Not only the price, it is very widely used here in Bulgaria, because it is big and cheap, much cheaper than similar cars (similar by size). I know a lot of people driving it and it is excellent. The only problem is the safety... they will never fix it. When it is cheap, it is for a reason. (not always).
I had to choose between this and an SX4 S-Cross. I went for Suzuki, is slighltly more expensive but felt better in pretty much all aspects; however, the Duster is a great value for money !
Lineage2Ertheia Yes it is.. Russians knows better how to properly test this Dacia against Lada Niva and other old school off-road M642 models if you want i'll post a link in here how well Duster can do with stock tires in the off-road wildness or on top of the snovy mountain trails were only wild goats adventures.. ;0)
Is there any chance Renault could import the Dacia range into Australia in the near future. The duster certainly seems to have more space in the boot than the range of jacked up hatchback SUV 's such as the mazda cx3 etc.
It means that Romania is producing cheap models using existing tech from the company mother. 4x4 from Nissan Pathfinder, Renault engines and low quality materials to keep the price low.
In some markets (such as Russia and India) the car is actually sold under the Renault brand, with a slightly different front end and some changes in the cabin, too.
It is nice SUV for that money if you buy entry level model. But if you get more expensive trim levels you go up in price and then you can by something better. For example trim level in this video cost same as new Ford Focus.
It is what it is, a very affordable vehicle, basic but does what it says on the tin. I would buy one, I am not a badge snob. Disclosure, I have had a few Range Rovers, but not any more. Thanks for an honest review.
£250k on cars! Well, I did a rough sum and, having only owned 3 (used) cars since 1982 and serviced them myself my inflation corrected spend on cars including depreciation, fuel, insurance, tax and maintenance has been rather less than half that (and I still have a few years use left in my current car). Clearly I need to work harder at spending the rest while I still can 8-)=
"LED headlights"? I see 3 normal bulbs. The only LED part of it is the daytime running light, which is not really important. It would be much better if they left those daytime running lights away and used LED's for the low beams instead.
I have this model and is a nice car until we talking about that punch. Is a slow car which for a family car I should say is not to bad. The only bad point is when you need a extra power for an overtaking or going up on the hill, there you can see how slow is this car. Otherwise, I recommend this car. For that extra power, you can buy a chip to increase the power of the car with a few hp, is not too expensive and is easy to be fit. Maybe in the future car builders will understand the car needs power not just for speed but also to pull away from a traffic light/roundabout or even when you make an overtake.
Michael Pitcher is called RaceChip and if is right it can boost your hp with an extra 30% there. So far I have not buy this chip so I can't tell you if is true or not.
Unfortunately not. There was but they stopped it because the auto transmissions didn't pass the emission tests. Their press release hints that they hope to resolve that issue and then reintroduce auto transmission some day. When they did have auto transmission, (Renault EDC (efficient dual clutch), they only had it on the two wheel drive versions. If they release a dual clutch auto diesel with 4x4, I'll be very tempted to get one of these.

The Dacia Duster is the Glock 19 of SUV: excellent quality/price balance. Would you agree with this statement?
I have a 1.5 Turbo diesel duster. I do not agree about the comment in the review relating to engine punch. I find 115 BHP to be ample. Acceleration is good . Drove it many times through 2 feet plus snow with no problems at all. Very good value for money.I am happy with it.

If this generation comes in India it will be a biggest selling car for sure....
Couldn’t be more right about badge snobs in Britain, but because you can get such good lease deals on nice cars people get those instead to show off😂 there seems to be a culture in the UK that you use your car to show off your ‘status’ if you like (or at least try to big it up😆)
@@reececollison5101 it's not only In Britain, it's everywhere. Portugal is no exception.

You can tell Ginny loved this one 🤣😂
i think she is a little biased ;)
Matt should compare the servicing and repair costs as well...
Yes I was so impressed also! The blue lamp is on many modern cars perfectly normal! Enjoy! :-)
Guys, thank you for sharing. What about twisty roads, can it compete with a mini MVP in terms of being as agile? (60-80 Mph fast twists). Thanks.
Nice review, greetings from Romania
I love the Duster, there's just something about it.
Great review Miss..The Duster will be my next car,4*4..No bling, just pure joy to drive..
Thor Fornes drive one first. Has 0 feeling disconnected from the road. It's a shitshow.
It's a very nice car, and i offers you so much more than just a cheap car!
Nice body shape, And the cars good aswell
it has taillights like a Jeep Renegade armrests like a Range Rover and a row of switches like an Audi...
I'm not a badge snob when it comes to cars. Motorbikes, yeah, i have them for fun but I'm not after thrills with a car, they all have the same top speed in a traffic jam. It just needs to be practical and reliable which every owner seems to say with this. Will seriously consider it.
I didn’t watch this review for any enthusiasm for the car, more for enthusiasm for the presenter/reviewer!
Ginny Buckley, serious comp for Rebecca Johnson!!!
Great and ideal for a beginner/new driver. No point buying astronomically expensive cars nowadays they loose ridiculous value the moment they leave the dealer and are on the road. My first car was a fiat panda sergio tacchinini. I loved that car, it was so reliable aaahh good times. 😊
Rochdale's finest Ginny Buckley delivers another straightforward review. I like my Duster and echo her comments - its great value.
I’m ordering mine with special colour options “Whitebord Duster”.
Haha - also called 'UN Peacekeeper White' :-)
Drop Dead Gorgeous Ginny 🙏🏻💕
Is the 1.6l petrol worth concidering?
I'm buying one next year.
You get a lot of car for your money.
I'm not into wasting money on prestige brand cars .
I should add...apart from apologising for the typo's...the manual aircon has been great in the recent hot spell too.
Does Ginny come with the car 😛
Depends if it’s the rattly diesel that vibrates through the cabin
Certainly hope not!
Virgin 😂,nothing wrong with apreciating an attractive lady.
She's the "Duster"
Great review. My Duster Prestige on the way !
We all like something different, it's what makes the world go around.
dude Nissan Terrano is basically Duster
GJ F Duster has for sure much more comfortable suspension than renegatem...and it is important on bumpy back roads in the UK
Seriously considering trading mm C3Aircross for one of these, they have certainly upped the look of the thing.
Acceleration is 11,9mp/100km-ish. It doesn't sound that bad, or is it a pain after all?
I’m a fan of this 2018 Dacia duster I especially like the design of it look very good bought one last year predige model top of the line and I just adore if it has 40000 miles on it since I last bought it and had one thing wrong with it the air conditioning donst work but had it fixed by the dealer on warranty absolute gem to drive the cars tyres definitely give it the look with the desert orange paint just a shame donst have a 7 seater option other then that I just love it.
Love your reviews Ginny!!!
Nice review as always, but MC Hammer wants his pants back :>)
blairrob That’s a good one!!🤣🤣🤣
Would you choose this over the Subaru XV? Thank you.
Jeep renegades want there rear lights back.
joking aside good review
X does not = +
@@gbbggb12 pfft still pretty much the same style.
Great Video Review as always. I would recommend the Dacia Duster for those buying on a budget
I can't wait for mine coming in October.
1:25 Rumor is that the largest of the beloved Carbuyer suitcases is where they keep Batchlor in the downtime between his reviews!
A pretty balanced review in my opinion
Not a car for me but a good review done by a seasoned reviewer........good work Ginny
nice exterior trim!, oh and the car is nice as well.
what do you think about the 130 and 150 hp engines?
This is much better review than that what carwow did, you got the points here!
Dacia Duster is one sweet ride. I am an American and you guys have some of the coolest cars out there. 👍😁
I love my 2016 AWD Dacia Duster, Lovely car, comfortable, reliable and cheap to run, I'm considering getting the new model, not sure yet.
What a cool interpreter! Great rewiev! Thanks.
Dacia at the moment is the most reliable brand considering the price .
Not only the price, it is very widely used here in Bulgaria, because it is big and cheap, much cheaper than similar cars (similar by size). I know a lot of people driving it and it is excellent. The only problem is the safety... they will never fix it. When it is cheap, it is for a reason. (not always).
Back support is available in the seats?
I had to choose between this and an SX4 S-Cross. I went for Suzuki, is slighltly more expensive but felt better in pretty much all aspects; however, the Duster is a great value for money !
it's cheap but it's very good
john alli actually it's not.
Is it from Renault??
Yeah.
Oliver K. Then Dacia means ?
It means that Romania is producing cheap models using existing tech from the company mother. 4x4 from Nissan Pathfinder, Renault engines and low quality materials to keep the price low.
Dimitar DASKALOV. Tq so much
In some markets (such as Russia and India) the car is actually sold under the Renault brand, with a slightly different front end and some changes in the cabin, too.
Duster commercial on a Duster video, Go Duster!
05:20... It's Renault captur as captoúr not capture. Nice review btw. 😊
A very good review.
I think the car is perfect for rough areas like unpaved roads, mountain tracks, Britain.
It is nice SUV for that money if you buy entry level model. But if you get more expensive trim levels you go up in price and then you can by something better. For example trim level in this video cost same as new Ford Focus.
Can duster be available in india please reply soon
I’d go for the access model. Be fun to have a back to the basics car
GREAT REVIEW
would you do an review of an 2018 Sandero Stepway Prestige 0.9 TCe 90 ?
Your voice is special!
does duster come with a cigarette socket?
Nicely presented,thks.
Clearly I need to work harder at spending the rest while I still can 8-)=
i have a 142 duster...1.5 deisel....will be going to new model..soon.
Is power steering hydraulic or electric? Gear shift is shorter in newer version?
Electric steering, one finger light but weights up just enough. Gear throw is shorter and quite precise. :-)
Anthony J thank you
what led headlights?
What chip?
Michael Pitcher is called RaceChip and if is right it can boost your hp with an extra 30% there. So far I have not buy this chip so I can't tell you if is true or not.
There is no automatic transmission available??
Unfortunately not. There was but they stopped it because the auto transmissions didn't pass the emission tests. Their press release hints that they hope to resolve that issue and then reintroduce auto transmission some day. When they did have auto transmission, (Renault EDC (efficient dual clutch), they only had it on the two wheel drive versions. If they release a dual clutch auto diesel with 4x4, I'll be very tempted to get one of these.
