Make a Ring with a Kinetic Feature: A Silversmithing Tutorial

- This tutorial shows how to make a whimsical ring with two faceted stones dangling within a feature on the top of the ring. This is an advanced level project because of some precise soldering and shaping. For materials, I used 16 (1.29 mm) and 18 (.9652 mm) gauge sterling round wire, 12 gauge (2.032 mm) sterling square wire, and 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) fine silver bezel strip in 28 gauge (.3048 mm). The stones are 4mm pink tourmalines I believe. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and a liquid flux. Thanks! You're alright in my book bojicasin:)
Definitely cool 😎, definitely, funky, and only a little ridiculous-as you called it! Challenge and fun! Love it! 🌺 🌺 🌺
I haven't taken out in the sun, but I think it's going to be extra sparkly because the setting moves so much:). Thanks Flying Chef!
WOW! That ring is groovy...wow!! 😍
Hehe:)
I would definitely wear that amazing ring. Fun and artistic. Love it!
Thanks Stormie!

WOW Chad!!! So cool!! Thanks you for being so generous with your knowledge and expertise!! I learn something from you all the time!!
Hello Karen! That's the kind of thing I like to hear:) Thanks for the nice comment!
Yep, really wacky Chad but another good informative video! I have a suggestion for future design books. You quite often refer to the gauge of the wire or sheet you are using. I have yet to see a supplier here in the UK that specifies silver by gauge. Maybe on the inside of the cover you a could put a gauge to mm and inches conversion table. Thanks again for the great video!!
Thanks Bill! We were already talking about the gauge to millimeter conversion chart. Shouldn't be too long before there is one on the merch store. I don't think it allows us to put it on the inside, so will likely be on the back like the fractions of an inch to mm one we just created a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the suggestion and nice comment!
Cute ring, love your videos. Just curious tho - why don't you just use silver tubing for the bezel? I made a similar double-ended little setting (with 4mm stones) with a headpin perpendicular thru the middle so that it could spin all the way around (rather than soldering on a ring to create a dangle as yours does). Simpler quicker & no fiddly solder work involved.
Good idea! Mostly just didn't have any right now:)
