I minored in dance and so glad I did. I’m a hip hop dancer to the core, self taught and by God’s grace, talented. But I got technical training in ballet, tap, jazz and modern in college which has propelled me as a teacher. Hip hop is still my forte, my passion, and what I teach best, but I’m versatile as a teacher because of my college training. I don’t use my major and did rack up way too much debt 😂, but I’m glad I have that training.
What college did you go to ?
@@Desireeanise Northern Kentucky University, a few miles from Cincinnati
Thank you I will go to College for Dance so that it can take me far and beyond as Artist and Dancer
Great advice! I love that you’re doing these and sharing and sharing so much love and support in so many ways to so many others! Keep them coming friend❤️✨
As a 15 year old sophomore in high school from National City, who loves dance and wholeheartedly would choose it over anything else, this really brought relief and confirmation to how I feel about dance! I love seeing your content and I felt the energy of your words from my phone and one of these days, I know I'll be able to meet you and I know it'll a moment I'll hold in mind.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m currently a senior in high school and my biggest dream is to become a professional dancer/choreographer! I know that everyone’s dance career can be different but I’m struggling on figuring out how to start mine. I don’t think I’m going to college because my goals don’t necessarily require college but I’m confused on how to start my dance career after high school. If anyone has any suggestions it would be very appreciated ☺️💜
Kimberly V move to where you can dance, get a shhhit ton of experience!! In dance! Go allllll in on your passion if you’re just a senior in high school. When everyone else is doing impressive things or stabilizing their lives, getting cars, renting their own apartment- go somewhere u can live and get dance experience. no matter how “silly” it looks, go for it 🙏🙏🙏 please please please! If u dont wanna goto college because it wont help with that raw dance experience. Live minimally with roommates and yea jus go for it. I’m 25 and wish I did that out of high school
Kimberly Bramble Holcomb Thank you so much, will definitely keep this in mind!!
Kimberly, the sooner you can immerse yourself in the dance industry/culture the quicker everything will start to happen. When I moved to LA at 18 i immediately starting taking multiple classes everyday at all the big pro studios from all the teachers, not just some, but all, cuz i needed to train in all the different styles of hip hop. It paid off pretty quickly as people grew to know me fast cuz they saw me everyday, training hard, learning, changing, growing. after getting an agent i started auditioning and then started booking gigs. the sooner you can get into the scene and build relationships, train frequently, and "pay your dues" the sooner things come.
In place of my senior year of high school, i graduated early by attending summer school for my remainig two credits the summer after junior year and so ggraduating early i attened one year of a commercial ent. program in my city and then right before i woulve finished that one yr program i moved to LA, so technically i didnt finish or even get a degree or anything. I've been a professional dancer and teacher/choreographer now for over 20yrs......i've never had a "real" job, ive only ever been a pro dancer, teacher, choreographer and now also a producer, so if i can do it, you can do it too!!!
Shy Dance Productions This is very helpful, Thank you ! I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me :) I will keep it in mind

Thank you
Ur great
Graduated high school in the beginning of the year and I'm at the point where I'm deciding if I should go to college and pursue dance at the same time. My parents, as well as other adults have been trying to convince me to attend college because its what's best they say. but what you stated is very much true, I totally agree but they wouldn't understand I think the only thing holding me back is not being financially stable like how do I keep attending classes without money or how do I move out? Should I work and dance? A part time won't help me travel right? Idk, what should I do? Attend college just to relief the urge of not feeling safe or continue to go out more session, lab, train, battle with be with others like me (dancers) :)
I’m attending college this fall for my BFA but whole heartedly agree with everything you said. It is by no means necessary but I want my degree to help me in the other sides of finding employment and dancing, and learning more business skill that will help me market myself and my choreography
How do you think a low income person should approach this career path of being a Industry dance and getting sign by a agency or getting casted by what personal time dance class
Hey Antoine,i want to know if you provide scholarships for dancers worldwide to come train with you.For example i live in Botswana,Africa and is there a way that as dancers far from you can get training from you?
Um this advice really help me thank you!!
and for me dancing is everything to me but the a problem is in my school there's no dance school, well we have in our country but its far away from where i live, and now i just got into senior high school and i have to choose my strand and i dont know how can i still stick in dancing, and my career is to become a professional dancer please someone give me some advice
Hey! I’m actually new to this channel and I’m trying to figure out the same thing. I highly recommend watching more of this guys videos and one tip I can give u is to NEVER give up 👍🏻
In the US they have college for dance?? Omg
full 2 years of this video.
Can you attend a community college then a bigger college or a university to be successful in dance
Hey Henry, in my experience you can do either and be successful. Success is different in everyones eyes so set goals for your own success and follow the path to those.
If you are wanting to be a university dance professor then i highly suggest getting a good degree in some are of the arts/dance b/c to apply to be a professor at college's and universities you will need a degree showing you have a dance education. However if you are going to be a performer and dont neccessarily want to be a professor/teacher on this high of a level then a dance degree isnt needed. If you wanna be highly educatedin dance then yes college is always a great idea to be well educated on all things arts.
I'm your fan I love you so much ❤️
Grace Smith ❤️❤️❤️ love u right back
@@AntoineTroupe u replied me thank you So much ❤️
i wanted to ask that how much dance experience do we need to get an audition.
It depends on what you are auditioning, if it´s for college I think it depends of the forte of the college like it´s more about ballet it will be very good if you have a strong training but if it´s more based on comercial dance or other styles can vary. If you want, I have found some infos and links of some page that talk about this topic, just answer and I send it!
@@laurapalac2443 ya sure pls send
What if your family don't went you to be a dance

"Typically, for people who also want to teach within college"
What? Why would we want to go to college and teach there if WE are the students trying to learn how to properly choose a dancing career, how does that make any sense
Many dance professionals go on to teach.
@@jtika1978 Tbh now that I watch it back, I guess I misunderstood him for dance teachers
