The whistling in Toyota Kenya Prados is now explained. Thanks. You did a very good explanation on the Fortuner cannibalism towards Prado when you compared it to other pick-up based 4×4s. Good understanding.
Excellent work, Erick. I've lived with a yr 2013 1KD Fortuner since yr 2018. It was used in S.A and i would choose it over the Prado any day. Let me tell you Erick, the (reasonable) speeds i do with the Fortuner at certain corners, the Prado couldn't even dream of taking. Also add on the fact that the Fortuner is lighter than the Prado and smaller hence handles and maneuvers better. Well done!
Important correction: Those diff locks are very misunderstood and would be worth extra attention. In essence of the 2 cars you have here the Fortuner is more off-road ready because: 1. Putting it in H4 is equivalent to locking the centre diff in the Prado 2. It additionally has a rear diff lock. Point 1 is where the confusion occurs and I would bet most drivers haven’t got a clue when their car is ready or not ready for slippery surfaces.
Am very happy now Erick, Good review hand in hand with a good camera man...I love this channel now even more... The two vehicles are my dream cars n now I am informed better of which to go for,,now looking forward for the trim levels episode.
Between full time 4WD and selectable 4WD, I would pick the selectable. It's the exercise of control that is enchanting to drive. Koso Koso mingi at full time 4WD and automatic is for A--->B drivers. Probably my preferences are wild, minority and fanaticized but the things I would value most in order of priority are : 1. Manual 6-speed transmission 2. Selectable 4WD 3. 1GD-FTV 2.8L 4. Rear diff-lock 5. Center diff-lock 6. DAC 7. ESC 8. Skid plate
another thing i like about the 1gd ftv compared to the 1KD is that the 1gd is more silent and smoother especially when idling in traffic the 1KD can be quite irritating to the ears but the 1gd is quite silent and with the damping on the Prado and with closed windows its almost similar to a petrol.
Very good comparison @auto konnekt i always wondered what is the main difference between the two since they run on almost the same platform. Between the Fortuner and the Isuzu Mux what would be the best pick?
How people pass up an X5, X4, X6 and the Q7 that's at the same price with the Prado and fortuner is interesting. You get more power, more fuel efficiency, more comfort, better safety, adjustable ride height, Premium everything including the finishing
You have a solid point but you are forgetting one key aspect reliability. You don't want to get stuck with a luxurious BMW or Audi in a remote town hoping to find spares, happened to me recently had to buy *used engine mounts for an Audi.
Reliability is key hapa. German cars offer what you're saying and much more but the cost of ownership is insane. You need some deep pockets to live with them. Sure you can argue that anyone buying a car within this price range can afford the huge bills but with time those bills begin to add up and you'll feel the pinch. And let's be honest, these German cars are delicate AF. I'm a BMW fan but somethings you just have to accept if you want peace of mind. And also, Japanese cars tend to outlive the competition. It's been proven. Ukitaka kitu super fancy and you have ridiculous money in your bank that you don't feel dents, buy German. But ukitaka gari haina stress and it can give you an acceptable degree of luxury and comfort, buy Toyota.
You have not driven a fortuner and it shows. On Kenyan roads, horsepower gives you temporal thrill but Torque (especially from the 1GD-FTV) gives you unending ultimate DRIVING PLEASURE, no pun intended. These two are also forgiving when you partake in this pleasure unlike the highlighted competition which you have to always have at the back of your mind the fixes (downtime, hussle, cost) for sins of indulging in the thrill.
Hello Wokabi. Awesome work. Could you bring us the ford everest 3.2l 4-wheel 6 auto. I find both of these cars all too common now on our kenyan roads. The ford everest not so much
Erick, im quite concerned about the difference between 1KD and 1GD you talked about at the beginning of the video. I see 1gd will give about 175hp and 450nm of torque. Earlier 1kd likes of 2008 prado j120 uk spec LC4 with 5speed auto or earlier models of 2010 prado j150 also with 5 speed auto gave the same power output as these 1GD prado/fortuner. Would there be much difference in consumption say from the two prados (1kd and 1gd with same power figures 2008 vs 2017). Also considering the weight of the two where prado j120 was lighter compared to the 2017 prado j150, would that also mean that the acceleration and consumption would almost match? I ask these questions cause i love the shape of the j120 but i love the shifting prowess of the j150. The j120 uk spec with 175hp 450nm and 5speed auto similar to feels sluggish though in real world you would easily overtake or follow a j150 uphill....how true is this statement wokabi. Also, i understand that all the j120s came with a 2-speed transfer case for the full time 4wd system. Is this also the same for the j150? I've also driven the two offroad and the j120 feels better in low speed climbs. Pls tell us more.
I will go for Toyota Fortuner because Prado is so heavy although it has 140litres full tank Capacity while Fortuner has 80litres full tank capacity. Still Fortuner is lighter.
The difference in the used car market might be 1m. But in the new car show room the difference is more like 4-8M as a fortuner will set you back 10M while a prado will set you back 14M for the GX and 18 to up to 20M for the top of the range j150 VX.L and close to 30m for the j250
1KD comes along with 4 speed Auto or 5 speed Manual gearbox while 1GD comes with 6 speed Auto. Better 1 GD engine which is also having timing chain than 1KD with Timing belt which is not durable.
the j150 prado is a oversized probox overhyped by not so competent politicians, the fortuner is the best vehicle both in terms of cost practicality and longivity usage
I remember i did a trip back in 2020 with a fortuner Nai to Nyahururu to and fro seated on the 3rd row seats lemme tell you maina it was burial, Ilikuwa ni mazishi. Good comparison of the two cars. Personally ill go for the Fortuner as a budget Prado rather than a petrol Prado. Hio nayo hapana
I will be glued to this channel to the day I will own my car.mnipee likes za manifestation
Take a time to appreciate the level of research Erick did.
He is the goat in kenyan car reviews
ERIC is a Beast in terms of these reviews, its in his blood, btw do a review to differentiate between TX, TX-L, VX, VX-L, TZ-G and the KAKADU
Hii alifanya kitambo kwa Carnvasation
You have arranged them exactly from the least to the highest specs

1GD before 2020 produced 177-184hp and 450Nm. After 2020, 204hp and 500Nm. Just a correction, great work Wokabi 🙌
Correct sir. Asante sana
You are a good man. Your number please
Chief, I have subscribed, your unparalleled knowledge on this matters deserves this.

@@TheJoker-qn6vw 😜😜 didn't see that coming. Why not, even better off road experience. These 2 also come in manual options
Awesome review.. Kindly Wokabi bring us a review between Toyota Hilux and Isuzu Dmax

Local tear drop VXL! For me💯
I drive the J150 but I still admire the fortuner actually, I'm in love with it... Sounds like am cheating 😢😂
The green in the tea plantation is greening day by day💚
Anyway, your content is top notch Wokabi💯
I go with Fortuner🔥🔥🔥
This man knows his stuff 😉
Fortuner is a beast on its own kwanza 2017 2018 models look really beautiful

I will go for Prado because of looks
I have been having love with Fortuner
Very good comparison @auto konnekt i always wondered what is the main difference between the two since they run on almost the same platform. Between the Fortuner and the Isuzu Mux what would be the best pick?
Personally id go for the fortuna if doing overland...then remove the third row seats....or better still a double cab
As a guy who spins a hilux d-cab, I'd choose a fortuner allday anyday.
Good review! Pls consider bringing us Hilux and Dmax, also do 0 to 100 😅
Well explained, keep up the good job
Good job, I'll just go for Fortuner....🎉
Now we want Mbugua
S.I Unit😅
21:30 There is also the basic trim DX
Wokabi the power master now watching from somalia Garissa

Way less reliability

Hello Wokabi. Awesome work. Could you bring us the ford everest 3.2l 4-wheel 6 auto. I find both of these cars all too common now on our kenyan roads. The ford everest not so much
Fortuner as always,....💯💯
Fortuner the best in climbing hills very powerful engine
Erick with a ck , siutufanyie Nissan Altima na Nissan skyline😌😌😌😌
I think the higher trim levels of the fortuner from Thailand have air rear suspension
I would take the Fortuner over the J150.The J 150 is popular with politicians. The Fortuner has an upper hand in my opinion
For pickup truck suv 😂
@erickwokabi kindly do a review of the Alphard and Velfire
You should also bring up the 3L diesel Porsche Cayenne in the mix
Team Fortuner give a alike coz in Kenya we hipe Toyota Prado saanaa 6:10
Prado remains the best.Infact I have a 7 seater,very spacious.
Toyota prado is overated. Kwanza I always try to force myself to like it😂😂
The cream idea interior in the prado slaps, am bored with my dark one😂
Hi Erick, tuletee review ya the new Toyota urban cruiser
Bring the Nissan Terra Mr. Erick. Good work.
Is it true that TX and TXL don't have difflock. If true the fortuner is therefore more capable off load than them unlike vx and vxl.
Foutner all the way I don’t love how untable the prado is kwanza offroading Kenito wa qatar 🇶🇦 in 💪
Comparing notes, with carversation on the same subject.. getting additional info on both sides 😊

I will always take j150

Nice review, keep it up
Mr Wokabi is the nissan pathfinder not built on Navara chassis and is that not an SUV?
Hiyo baridi buana. One can almost see and touch it
the j150 prado is a oversized probox overhyped by not so competent politicians, the fortuner is the best vehicle both in terms of cost practicality and longivity usage
You call it a probox coz you can't afford it😂😂
hahaa, never will prado n probox be on the same league
@@clique_bizz999 msee akienda kubuy nguo na hafiki bei utaskia analia eti ooh hiyo ni oversized mkuu 😅 we know this people!

Fortuner is a part-time 4wD, but prado is full-time. 4wD.fortuner has no center locking diff and fortuner lacks KDSS
Txl is better than tzg system for tzg fails height control
VXL looks nice
Really bro? And the way I want to buy the TZG.
