The Audi RS3 is BACK, and it’s taking on a Tesla Model 3 Performance in this all-new petrol vs electric drag race!
Now they may have very different components under their bonnets, but given the Audi is so new, will it be able to hold its own against the Tesla? It’s time to check out the stats…
Starting with the Audi RS3, you’ll find a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5 cylinder engine upfront, which has the ability to put down 400hp & 500Nm of torque. It tips the scales at 1,570kg, and a new one will set you back around £50,000.
Then we have the Tesla. It’s the Performance edition, so it’s powered by two electric motors which combined to put down 490hp. It’s also up on torque, given it can produce 660Nm. It’ll cost you £10,000 more than the RS3, though, and it’s also 300kg heavier!

Hey Matt, I found a trick in my 2016 S4 to bypass the rev limiter.
When you put the car in neutral (it may need to be rolling ever so slightly) you can rev it all the way to redline!
Idk if it works in newer models, but might be worth playing with next time to get that juicy sound clip.

@@antonrupert1377 tuned or stock? I know stolc 2019 rs5 it had no rev limiter but 2020 rs5 does. It's so weird. For zf8 the clutch is always engaged that's why audi doesn't want you to rev past the safety point as the transmission gets hot.
@@Thatblue.s4 ZF8 doesn't have a clutch, its a torque converter. The soft rev limiter can't be because of transmission heat

insane how much the prices are different in the Netherlands, here the RS3 is 50% more expensive than the Tesla, crazy difference!

Hey Matt, just a heads up that any sound when filmed in the Audi at standstill has a very strong feedback hum, prob worth checking your equipment. Great video tho.

@@Firebolt1729 Yep. And the power to weight ratio is nearly identical because of the heavier model 3 performance.
With that in mind, the RS3 isn't all that impressive in the end.
Same thing with the Plaid. Just look at the cars it's compared to, and the weight of those cars. Sure it's powerful, but it goes like a fu*kin rocket even with 2.2 tons of weight.
Rs3 can probably tie the tesla with a stage 2 tune. Those things make crazy power.
@@superweeb6969 Exactly, if not beat the Tesla with both ECU and TCU tune. And before the fanbois come in saying well the Tesla can get a software update and add more power then not necessarily and you're not guaranteed to get that. That's like buying a new mobile and expecting a software update to unlock more performance, unlike a remap.
Literally the choice I was making a few months back: Tesla Model 3 Performance or Audi RS3 Vorsprung. Will be taking delivery of the RS3 early next year 🎉

Really a clean sweep for the M3P, then you think about the maintenance for both. I was actually on a waiting list for 1.5 years for the Audi and never got any closer to actually getting one. Decided to get the tesla instead. I dont think I regret it.

The b/s58 aka "the next 2jz" < bmw fanboy words not mine is the 2nd worst performance engine for sale here today🤣 the funniest part is the bmw brigade actually compared the s58 directly to older Beemer 6pots claiming it was the equivalent from when BMW went from 12v to 24v on even the base model 6pots 🤣 Laughable, they still had barrel liner (nikasil) issues, bottom end issues (the last great BMW 6pot to have a strong bottom end was E30 323. The E30 323 lump in the 323s could decimate e30 325s and subsequently any E36 short of the M3 just on the fact they were a rev happy shorter stroke with lighter flywheel version. BMW now are not the same company now. The newer engines are a joke the b/s58 bottom end is already proved as unreliable as the S85 v10 bottom end. Plus its got the usual open cast issues it leaks coolant into barrels and all that nonsense as early as 30k miles on a stage1. I agree Audi 5pot is a shadow of its former self as far as reliability but BMW are probably worse now, even the ZF "gearbags" they've been fitting recently are worse than that 6speed manual in the golf7 with the clutch bypass valve junk in it that lunches the thing even with a good driver. None of the German manufacturers are even close to being a reliable brand in 2021.

I'm surprised you only managed an 11.7 in the M3P - I used to get that time when my car was just a Dual Motor 3 with Acceleration Boost (before I converted it to a Performance). What was the battery charge %? You should always reveal that in these races. I've personally been to the drag strip dozens of times and have never done worse than an 11.5 and consistently run 11.4, along with several other buddies who also have an M3P. Dragtimes time slips and Dragy leaderboards also confirms these are the more average times for the 1/4 mile.
Drag strip with a sticky surface vs a landing strip makes a big difference
@@Oockeshoek Actually it doesn't and there's plenty of Tesla content on YT proving this. Tesla's control slip with torque vectoring incredibly well. I've done tons of 1/4 mile runs on the toll road late at night and consistently get 11.4's.

You don't have to activate the launch mode, its optional. But without, it would drive as slow as the Audi and that would be sad

Please use the Tesla Boombox feature for the “sound check”! These cars do make noise lol. The Tesla Model 3 Performance (especially with upgraded sways) is the only electric car that convinced me over ICE. Also, EV DRAG RACES ARE USELESS WITHOUT STATING SOC.
