For the record, there's nothing wrong with using aspirate onset instead of glottal onset. It's a singing technique people use ALL the time. I just felt his voice wasn't as well supported in these parts and it made those notes sound a bit shakey. But as we could see in the latter portion of the performance, Dan thrives in the 1000% zone. I just wanted make myself clear. This was amazing and his voice moved me deeply ❤

A 250yr old hymn, written by a British poet John Newton, a former slave ship Captain.. during a storm at sea he prayed to be saved and of course he lived.. He found God, became a Minister in the Church and alongside Walpole he worked diligently to get slavery banned. When Dan, a 34 year old Brazilian Christian sings this.. I imagine this is how Newton must have felt way back then, wanting to shout from the roof tops.. It is a hymn of Praise and Joy. Dan sings it Loud and Proud. Dan really is a beast of a singer. This guy can basically sing everything, from opera to rock and metal. He has an incredible voice range, breath control and a beautiful, powerful and unique voice. This version of this song is flawless.

Hi Charlie, this video just showed up on my feed about six months ago and I had never heard of Dan Vasc before. I first I thought yeah he's a pretty good looking dude and then very suddenly all hell broke loose and I was completely captivated and mind completely blown. I really enjoyed your reaction. I instantly became his number one fan and there's no turning back. Once you experience him, you cannot unexperience him!

It's breathy at the beginning for emotional reasons. Besides the fact that he's typically a metal singer. DAN can sing anything. 💯
Nope thats not the kind of breathiness I'm describing. I understand you love Dan and want to see everything he does through rose tinted glasses but he is not singing in a breathy style. He is dulling the beginnings of his words with an H. That does nothing to add emotion. It's poor technique that people use when their voice isn't particularly stable singing softly. It's a get out of jail free card essentially.
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel Wow.... you said it yourself, that when it kicked in, you got excited. Why are you unwilling to realize the rise in emotion and scale of intensity. That's what effected you. Music is not a perfectionist game. It's how you effect your audience and bring them in. Also, pay attention to where his voice is at its best. That requires good breathing and stance. Therefore, his breathing is hard in and out for that result. Air is forced out harder when needed to reach his metal keys.

I don't usually like much metal music but I love listening to Dan sing. His cover of Elvis Presley's American Trilogy that he did in memory of his father after he passed made me cry.
Hi Charlie, When you said hes too breathy in the second verse I thought to myself. Well you better buckle up chuck cuz hes gonna take you for a metal ride. And he did! The best version of amazing grace Ive ever heard in my 67 years on this planet. My moms favorite song I had played at her funeral. I wish I had this version of it back then she would have heard it from heaven.

This is my favorite version of Amazing Grace. I love Dan Vasc. He sings like he feels, with passion. Absolutely adore him ❤❤❤
Dan is the vocal equivalent of a Swiss army knife. He's incredibly versatile! You can never be quite sure what he will do, but you can be sure it will be amazing!
Dan doesn't believe in "born given" talent. He has worked hard his whole life to improve and strengthen his voice. That's why he makes no mistakes with his vocal technique. He knows exactly what technique to use so he doesn't strain his voice. He has several years of classical training and he also worked as a voice coach for several years. His covers are always carefully arranged and well thought out because he's The perfectionist!

Dan does not merely carry a tune, or merely put words and notes together. Every note is purposeful in delivery. If you listen to the words, the emotion of each line he performs matching the words intent. He takes you on a journey from first knowing of grace to fully realizing, walking in and being filled with the power of being covered by that grace and fully knowing the reward of eternity in heaven. This is perfect. The song has waited hundreds of years to have the emotion and power displayed properly.

Something you totally missed in your reaction....this rendition is an exceptional demonstration of his voice range....5 octaves (wow!)...also his breath control is way above what I've seen in the elites....it was like his voice coach said...take a simple song, increase the octave with each verse with each verse sang in a different style from acapella, classic, contemporary, opera to metal. One of the most impressive singers I have ever witnessed (in my opinion)

I have to add.... this song (I read in a text....) was done in homage to his father, who died just a few months earlier and his father was also the one who gave him that harmonica when Dan was EIGHT YEARS OLD!
I don't know where you got that story from, but Dan's father died back in 2017, and he did American Trilogy 5 days after as a tribute.
Amazing Grace was released for easter i 2023.
But you're right about the harmonica being a gift to him from his father, though there are different versions of when he got it, he has several, and Dan stated in one interview, that he doesn't remember when he got the one he plays in Amazing Grace, (which is a chromatic), but think he was around 12.

Dan definitely is a beast unleashed. Love everything about the guy (skills, personality, looks, etc). If you want to backtrack to his Christmas stuff, try Dan's versions of Adeste Fidelis (Latin "O Come All Ye Faithful"), Angels We Have Heard on High (in 4 languages), and O Holy Night. Nothing tame about any of them. He also did a one man choir version of Handel's Messiah, which is fantastic.
Amazing Grace introduced me to him & O Holy Night sealed my fate... once I picked my jaw up off the floor. I've been discovering more treasures ever since.
There are so many other songs for you to discover as you journey through Vasc Nation.
