This is a powerful comment. On first listen, it's tempting to think that demand isn't as high here as it is with the BAC's, the BD's, etc. But taking a closer look, I think a real strong argument could probably be made that this material is MORE demanding than what other groups are doing because of the constant dynamic changes, the frequent tempo changes, the constant changes in touch, and the uniqueness of the actual rhythms.
This is drumming that makes people stop and ask what really is demanding in music.

@@ryancox5097 i think if they can get both their front and battery playing up to full potential it absolutely could happen, but it is going to be cutthroat and the execution will have to be flawless, bc it's those little spreads in grace notes & spaces that will really be the difference. i'd love to see crown win but man BD, Boston, SCV and Bloo are already incredibly strong. it's gonna be challenging

@@ryancox5097 absolutely! totally agree with much of this. demand-wise, i feel like this year's CC book makes a better argument for including them in at least the top 3 lines, along with BAC and SCV/BD/BLOO? Last year's, while for sure difficult, was maybe less "choppy" than this years, and thus gives them something to point to, to refute claims they can't play beefy notes? i don't know, but they seem a bit more fearless this year, in that regard this year--and/or maybe prioritizing cleanliness more? there are just ten million litte, itty bitty ways to tic with a book like this, that BREATHES, both last year and this one. at the same time, i do think that BAC gets short shrift sometimes re: the difficulty of more nuanced approaches to drum corps writing--deep dynamic/tempo flux/touch and hand pressure/speed demands and the like? because they absolutely can and do all of those things, lol...i think sometimes they get labeled as simply this dense notes machine--which they are! it's so sick, lol. but they're not ONLY that. anyway now i think crown is or could be in same dope strata.
