Thanks for sharing a day in the life. As a Captain on an Oil Tanker a day in my life is a little different, a lot less uniform changes, 12kts rather than 19 but early call for restricted visibility is the same! Calm seas and a fair wind Capt.
Are there times when the captain has to do a double shift? Like if the weather turns really bad.
@@fallinginthed33p captain & chief engineer dont have any scheduled watch or work timings they are responsible for everything so they are standby for 24/7.
@@anand5762This. There was a collision between a cargo vessel and a US navy destroyer. Captain was in bed - and actually got stuck in his quarters due to the damage to the destroyer, but he was still held accountable for the accident as Captain. With great power comes great responsibilities...

My father was a captain of an Oil Tanker in the 70s-late 90s. When his fleet was sold off and he was forced into early retirement he was courted by a bunch of Cruise Lines. I remember after about the third voyage with yet another company he came back and just said "I'm not sure I can do this". He became a teacher instead which he loved up until his death. Balancing the needs of the ship and the passengers was a little too different than what he was used to for that salty sea dog. Mad respect to you and your officers for handling all of that with skill and elegance.
We have sailed with Captain Kate twice. She is a public presence on the ships. Her daily announcements and anecdotes were enjoyable. Have not met Bug yet. Maybe one day. Thanks Captain 😊
I like how interactive she is with the everyone on the ship, many times when you go on cruises you never see the captain.

I recently sailed on Beyond with her! She and Bug make the trip...beyond fabulous!!! She's a very hard act to follow!!!!! Once you sail with Capt Kate, it's hard to do it any other way. The lady is truly "badass"!!!!❤

I was never a seaman. But my previous job was to manage gas tanker vessels operations. So I know it takes a real badass to have to cope with technical issues and 1000 people on board.

So cool to see. I worked on a cruise ship for 2 years (Carnival) never once saw an American Captain let alone female. Get it girl!!
PS-I was always amazed by the pilots jumping on and off the ship. I once joked with one of my coworkers what the insurance must look like for a job like that. 😳

Captain Kate, my family was on the sister ship 3weeks ago and I was making so much fun of them for not being on your ship!!! I even posted it on TikTok. We all had a great time roasting offline. It’ll come back on me next year when we cruise with Disney. My youngest daughter got to pick bc it’s her college graduation trip. I just hold NO SWAY with anybody in my family anymore. 😂😂😂 You’re the real Badass and of course Bug ❤

I did the straights of Messina on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower, CVN69. I was up on deck, but we weren't allowed to conduct flight ops as we were too close to land on both sides. Without going into classified info, we were forced to do an emergency recovery operation in Siganella, thank you Mt. Etna.

More then one coffee a day is bad for the heart. I drink one coffee a day just because it's good for your heart. Not sure about cappuccino in either case.
Great weather for flying type fish too. I always loved watching for wildlife when I used to cruise. If they don't have any inter-cruise classes on the best ways to watch and how to identify the most spotted animals, may I suggest it? Never saw that on a day's itinerary, but I would have taken it if it was.

I came across your channel a few months ago. My husband and I are getting back into travel after a 6 year hiatus. We’re taking Celebrity Eclipse later this year (second time we’ll be sailing with Celebrity). I keep telling him I want my 2025 vacation to be on a ship you’re commanding.
PS I would LOVE to see the water treatment facilities on ship! I’m a water treatment engineer and completely geek out over that!

My first cruise contract years ago I got put on fog watch...Had no clue, they had me go out on front of ship, it was drizzling and a little foggy yes, even had a guy waiting that I was supposedly replacing...Was out for probably 30 minutes as the bridge guys and my boss were just having a blast...😆

Wow, in the U.S. Navy they would call that an Admiral's dress uniform. It is sharp. You also have a really large cabin.
