It was such a fun set. I really liked that both Acola and Zackray were laughing and smiling and having fun while being hyper competitive in the set. Seems like both players are enjoying playing which is great
The difference in risk vs reward for these characters is insane. They both clearly outplay the other on many occasions, but Steve just gives Acola so much more in those situations
@TreyMM-qz4wgover 60% off every up tilt while Zack is lucky if his second his after a up tilt like nair doesn't just fling Steve out and get him punished. Edge guarding with Steve is safe and if done right pit cannot get past blocks etc. You really think Steve's not more rewarding than pit?
Man, if there's a case study for the ban of steve, its the change in gameplay after losing the a game in this set. After that PS2 game we never see it to that extent again, but the fact that you CAN pilot that character in that way, is frustrating to watch in high level play. Congrats to both players for an amazing set though, Acola and Zackray big props - extremely skilled players and fun to watch!
ill never understand the communitys obsession with hating players for their character picks. both zackray and acola are incredible players, and while acola is absolutely using a stronger character than zackray, that doesnt undermine his successes at all.
@@xanander4693 exactly this. if you look at brawl and smash 4, like 80% of top tournament results would be from meta knight/bayo. right now in ultimate, weve got like 2 steve mains in the top 50, being acola and onin. if steve starts showing up a lot more in tournament and player results in the future, then i think there would be reason to ban him. but rn, i think hes fine
First I'll say amazing set, they both played out their minds. Shout out to Acola for winning this one and Zackray for putting on a hell of a show. Now that that's out of the way - kinda getting sick of seeing these bullshit Steve exclusive interactions that really end up swaying the momentum and probably influencing the outcome of the game. Like I know if I was Zackray, I'd be tilted by some of the shit going on and just get in a bad headspace and end up throwing it mentally. There were plenty "strange bullshit" interactions throughout the set, mostly related to Steve and his hurtbox / hitbox shifting of some of the stuff he gets away with. But at around ~15:00 - ~15:30 in the set it's blatant, Steve somehow doesn't die to a great drag down follow up with up smash from Zackray, Steve was over 100, got dragged down and hit with the up smash from Pit. At first I thought he fell out? But that doesn't appear to be the case as it looks like he still got caught with the last hit of up smash, but there was like no knockback when it should've killed. Is there even a weak spot on that up smash hurtbox from Pit? That's the only thing I can think of as a possible explanation for what may have happened. Either way - that's utter bullshit and crazy things like that happen with Steve all the time, at least in the tournament vids I've been watching. Just seems really unfair and broken, either need to ban or something needs to be done to make him honest.
heres my take on the situation. steve is for sure the best character in the game, and, like kazuya, completely changes the game when you play vs him. however, looking at tournament and player results shows that his presence isnt nearly as polarizing as the threats of previous smash games (brawl mk, smash 4 bayo). maybe as time goes on, and steve players get better and better with the character, he will start threatening to take over the game. but as it stands currently, i dont think its nearly enough of a problem to warrant putting in all the effort it would take to form a unified ban on him edit: id like to add that theres still plenty of counterplay to steve right now (might change in the future as the character gets optimized). zackray almost beat acola in this set, with pit of all characters. if he won game 1 (which was already last hit) and the rest of the set played out as is, he wouldve won the set.
@@sheevpalpatine2321 yeah, zakray landed a drag-down nair into up tilt, and tried confirming it into an up air to kill, but the up tilt just sent barely too far for the confirm to work. there were plenty of bs steve interactions (like the shieldbreak 30s earlier lmao), but that wasnt one of them

I swear. Pit pro players have no side b attached to their controllers. You can brute force so many options to gain the upper hand as long as you don't overuse the move
This, Zackray could have used it in a few scenarios to take a stock, especially when Acola was on air while he was still on ground. Its understandable since you will get punished hard if you miss it, but sometimes if you aren’t confident, going for an aerial sideb is ok, since it forces a Guess game.
