First heard this in 1990 as a 1st semester freshman in college. One of those songs for me where I close my eyes and I am 18 again in my dorm room with my whole adult life in front of me.

If my scant understanding of ordinal time is correct (carry the 4, consider the relative humidity at the Tropic of Capricorn on January 23, 1875) that would make you rather elder. It is ok because I hear tell that there are some other geezers who are older than even that. (Maybe even me?)

Was chatting with Robyn on Twitter during this Covid19 lockdown. He, like me, his a lover of British longhair cats, and he invited me to his next L.A. show if I bring my kitten along. Too cool, Robyn.

Saw the REM tour with Robyn and the Egyptians opening here in Kansas City in 1989. Cut to last night, again in Kansas City, watching a Hitchcock solo show with about 300 others at a local club. Robyn ended the hour and 50-minute show (two sets) with this song. Hitchcock's surreal songs are still intriguing and seem ahead of their time, and Robyn's between-song banter is hilarious. Loved Hitchcock's music since the mid-80s and still can't wait to hear what he's gonna do next. His latest, 2017's self-titled album, is for me, one of his best works...

    Lyrics~
    Is this love?
    Is this love?
    Is this love?
    Lost Madonna of the Wasps
    I wonder where we crossed
I wonder why she lost me
    Lost Madonna of the Wasps
    She's dying in the frost
I wonder what she cost me
    Is this love?
    Gone Madonna of the swans
    She waves a magic wand
And then she settles on me
    Wise Madonna of the flies
    I look into her eyes
    And then she recognize me
    Is this love?
    Is this love?
    Lost Madonna of the Wasps
    I wonder where we crossed
I wonder where she lost me
    Lost Madonna of the Wasps

Introduction (which isn't on the Queen Elvis version, but is on the Kershaw Sessions one):
      Her service is perfect pain
      The agony of injection-o
I wait in her room again
      All ready for an inspection-o
The sun on the castle falls
      Nasturtiums on the enamel-o
      Unsteadily there she crawls
      She's riding you like a camel-o

Mark Kitterman and it was actually the FIRST rock opera. Townsend had been working on Tommy, and heard Davies had finished Arthur. So, like a douche, ( he had more pull due to more popularity) he got their label to stall the release of Arthur so he could have the first Rick opera in Tommy. Egos....

I went to a Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 concert a few years ago. The Venus 3 were Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, and Bill Rieflin. Mike Mills was in the audience and went up on stage a joined them for a few songs. That's the closest I'll ever get to an REM concert (everyone from the last iteration but Michael Stipe). And it was a small venue, great show.

    • @takecareofyourshoess
      @takecareofyourshoess Год назад

Why do the lyrics have to have any meaning at all?? Why can't they just be words?? Why can't you just listen to the SOUND of the words, how they fit in with the music aurally, and enjoy them on that level?? I imagine you have a VERY difficult time listening to music that isn't sung in English.
