    Cobb-Vanth the Talon pilot here! This was an awesome thing to witness! I heard there were pirates at smo-18 so I came in to check, didn't know the AVS was notified :D Sadly I got the invis bug after Avenger 22's kill on me XD (found out when a pirate mantis landed on me when I returned to the site and we both exploded), no fun/honor getting kills invis. I got so inspired by the AVS' response to Smo-18 distress call that I camped that area to essentially give cargo hauler's a chance. Earlier this morning there was an M2 loading up gold in smo-18, I then waited there with my Talon, as soon as the m2 lifted an eclipse came on radar, I intercepted the missile and chased out the eclipse after damaging its wing. The thrill of helping someone else and actually suceeding was so awesome. Will def practice more and camp pirated space. o7

By sheer dumb luck we went there next and upon realising the mantis was spooling up with a C2 on the pad we kicked into gear. Warned the C2 and lept on the Mantis as the priority. But the way you talk about the game and combat is so informative and easy to follow, i love it. Also the vision you have for the game is one i completely agree with I want pirates to be a big part of the game and i want a lot of this game to be, the way i think you look at it, realistic. So you have to really think of all the outcomes and strategies for different game loops and such. All that to say i hope you never stop making videos like these.

  • @RavagedSociety
    @RavagedSociety Год назад +1

    I have to agree, as a trader myself, when getting camped by pirates, don't be afraid to announce your location and ask for help in global chat! (along with enemy count and ship types) You'd be surprised how many "good guys" will come and deal with the pirates. Of course, there's always the chance those "good guys" are actually pirates themselves but that's the risk you take in trading.
    I'm absolutely terrible at ship combat in SC so I mostly stick to hauling. That being said, I get thrilled going to MT in my C2, without escorts, and basically creating spur of the moment content for PVPers. I think it's actually pretty cool to watch a fight going on from the ground. Sure, there's always a chance of losing my haul, but frankly, I'd say I only encounter pirates perhaps 1 out of 10 times I land at an outpost. So I make enough money hauling to cover any losses I might incur. Knock on wood, that has yet to happen honestly, but I also don't fly completely reckless.
    Oh, and I know it's just a bit of a nit-pick but coming from a C2 trader, SMO-10 does not sell gold as stated in the vid. Its attraction is that it does however have a nearly endless supply of Beryl, which can be bought quickly and sold for a profit of about 350k per C2 load. No long waits on server ticks like you do for gold at the other locations.

    Glad you busted Cutlet, he and his gang camps at SMO-18 all day. All your advice is true yet as a 1 or 2 man hauler ship it is practically impossible to defend yourself, if you're jumped asking for help will not always lead to people supporting you, and people will ask for payment which will often be more than surrendering your freight to the gangsters. SC still lacks the proper rock/paper/scissors balance and mechanics to leave more than one option when pirated. Right now, a single hauler is hands down toast, and even with a wingman it often isn't enough to stand up to a group of 4 or more pie-rats.

    Went into a fight with a blockade operation like that at SMO-18, alone, because the guys were being cocky in the chat. First thing is they shut down Coms array, so you can put it back on to annoy them. Then they gather inside the armistice, but they may have ballistas and tanks just outside. Anyway, went with a full ballistic C2 and cleared their ground vehicles, almost killed a Talon until I ran out of ammo. Their hauler eventually left, but I came back with a fighter to harrass the leftover of their team (Corsair and Scorpius) and was joined by two random dudes. I was fun to see their org operation go fubar because they couldn't resist trash talking. PvP is awesome.

      A relic of some other space games, where they were able to do cargo without paying for escorts. Star Citizen is not going to support solo cargo. Not large solo cargo. You might get away with some small ships, but not large ships. Cargo runners are going to have to stop looking at it as a negative, and just look at it as a normal business expense. Sure, right now many will do it for free, but in the future, they won't. You will also want to find escorts to build a relationship with, as any new escorts may actually be pirates, or working with pirates, the cheap cargo pilot's to their doom. In other words, if you find good escorts, pay them well, so they prioritize you. Stop with the notion that you have to turn a huge profit on every run. You will need to worry about just turning a profit at all.
      Cargo runners will need to remember that if there's no profit in protecting, then many players will seek the profit in piracy.

      That's basically why they're going to the master modes combat change; player incompetence and laziness. 'The game's combat sucks because it's all jousting!!1!' if you think trading doesn't give enough money for a single person.. split that payout by 5 or 10 people pirating and then add a time multiplier on the whole operation by like 100x. Thats how much longer it takes for pirates to deal with your goods than it takes for a trader to click two buttons to fill their ship and then two buttons to sell everything. Everyone bitches and moans about pirates but the pirates invest more manpower time and effort into pirating people than traders ever have to and pirates do it for almost no profit. Pirating is so unprofitable that they are better off doing literally anything else for money.

    • @EwanMarshall
      @EwanMarshall Год назад

      @@fr4me.01 pirates don't have to buy the goods in the first place, so all the goods they get is profit. The sell price for pirates is about 75% of what the trader paid, the trader might sell for 125% of what they paid. So if the trader bought 1 million aUEC, 750,000aUEC pirates can make while the trader is making 250,000 on that haul. A C2 is about 4.1 million to fill with gold, though this is unlikely due to other issues in the economy systems, like gold supply at location is shared across all servers so trader is already fighting it, 90% of the time, one can';t buy even if it says in stock because by the time your button presses are registered another player bought on another server.

      Currently pirates have no loss to incur, while cargo and industrial ships have no way to insure their freight. To engage a pirate without having criminal charges pressed you need to wait for them to engage their target and reach a damage threshold. Escorts attempting to protect their client face fines, criminal charges, and incarceration if they intercept a hostile combat ship before it reaches their client. Serial mass murders operate freely in the skies of planets ran by megacorps disrupting trade, without a security response. Pirate gets tired of having a crimestat? They go clear it, and go right back to getting a free first shot.

They seem intent on this being the 'last' rework of the FM too...
      From what I've seen MM is dependent on armour being added to the game to really work properly, and that is 2+ years out at least. (i.e. Armoured ships will have a far easier time escaping with the SCM>NAV mode changes in MM)

    Hey AV1. Really enjoy ur vids, keep it up. :D
    So i dont even play star citizen myself. (planning on buying it though). But im seeing so many similarities to another open world space game i play myself. In both games, there is piracy like no tomorrow. I myself, partake in piracy as my main source of income in that game. Just like you said in this video, great risk=great reward. And also, just like in Star citizen, the game also has a big group of people who blame the developers for making piracy possible. (even though pvp was the main focus at the start of development) These players are often new players that have no clue how to pvp, and are thus very easily dealt with by pirates who are (mostly) skilled. These players are known as anti pirates, they swear to kill every pirate one day, but then proceed to become a pirate themselves once they have a basic understanding of pvp and realise how profitable it is. Also tactics regarding piracy in Star Citizen are very similar. With disruption of warp being often the first thing done to prevent the victim from warping. When outnumbered or outskilled asking for allies to help. Same with the comms during major engagments. In the clips you've showed me in your videos, i can often hear keywords like, focus on ..., shield down on ..., ... killed. These mean basically the same thing as the callouts FC's (Fleet captains) give when commanding a fleet. We often use the words, Focus ..., hulled ..., ...'s dead. We also use words like, Disrupt ... (preventing someone from warping), Chase ... (when someone is running through warping meaning disruption either failed or wasnt possible). You may notice how those commands have basically only one word most of the time. This is becouse of the fast-paced nature of it, when in combat with more then 3 people on either team, People can die within in matter of seconds when the fleet is coördinated well and focuses all on the same person all at once. Good command will win you battles.

    I was a turret gunner in both my ships, and other people's ships, in a few fights against you recently. I enjoy PvP, and have been PvPing since PvP was available in online games...literally. Yes, I'm old enough to have seen PONG on a black and white TV, in stores, with a sign that said, "coming soon."
    In these fights, however, it was not fun. Why? Because lately, I have had a bug where I don't get that little chevron pipper to show me where enemy ships are. This was the case with you and others. I have to look for your tracers, and then hit T, hoping to get the target lock on you. So more often then not, you were already shooting at us, by the time I even got a target lock. My pilots were screaming, "shoot...shoot...shoot him!" I'm replying, "I don't see him." So, the result was, I get a brief salvo on you as you go by, jousting out of range. And often, I had to go through this process again, because now somebody else was targeting us...sometimes 2 or 3 other people, so I couldn't just keep lock on one person, who is now 8Km away, while other enemies are within 1K.
    I can't even tell you how frustrating this is. And it only seems to happen in combat...mostly. It may have something to do with how many ships are in close proximity...I don't know. But I do know that this saps the enjoyment from the game.
    Another thing that has me not enjoying this is that others have informed me that one of my struggles in the turrets has to do with the fact that turrets aren't doing the same damage that pilot guns do. I don't know if this is true, but it seems like it. I was running turret in one of my ships, a Hurricane, or my Scorpius...can't remember which, but both were set up similar, with my turret having 4 size 3 distortion repeaters...DR MODEL-XJ3. I've seen light fighters turn bigger ships off faster, with 2 size 2 distortion repeaters. I was getting pretty frustrated with this build. Normally you and my pilot jousted and I didn't get to land sustained hits, but for some reason, this one time, you stayed close, and I was hitting you a lot.
    We were in bad shape also, so my pilot called for a brush off, which didn't work in time, but just as you blew us up, the other pilots just engaging you said your shields were already down, and then they called "splash" on you a second later, which indicates that I was able to turn off your shields, but not your ship. So, I can only believe that there may be some truth to the turrets doing lesser damage than when the pilot is shooting those guns. I mean, again, I have seen a light fighter with 2 size 2 distortion repeaters, turn off a fully upgraded Redeemer with the same amount of hits I had on you with 4 size 3.
    The other issue, for me, was when we manner an upgraded hammerhead, and I witnessed 3 and 4 turrets hitting your ships, as you flew past. This again leads me to suspect truth to what I was told about turrets being a bit nerfed. That's 12 to 16 guns hitting you at the same time, and your friends too, as they went past. And not one of you popped. We had a discussion about this, and simply came to the conclusion that hopefully Master Modes will solve this, removing the ability of a light fighter to boom and zoom the Hammerhead with impunity. Even if all the Hammerhead does, is make light, medium and heavy fighters fear getting in range of a Hammerhead, that will be an upgrade to the current situation. This would make it a viable escort for the larger ships, as it is intended.
    Don't interpret this as my thinking you don't have skill. You are obviously very skilled, and I could see that. But, as we know, Star Citizen often leaves us frustrated with bugs, glitches, and things not working like they should.

      This wasn't prearranged for the record. The cargo pilot noticed the pirates, contacted A1 who pinged the squad and the crew you see is the available crew. Response time was probably 5 minutes? Cargo just stayed in the safe zone until we got there, and we didn't ask for compensation and won't. Hop into VC at AVS if you find yourself needing help :-)

    What if avs is the ones pirating me? And what is the risk to pirates? Like I have said before. The majority of players do not want to pvp. And you get so many losers who brag about how they just pirated someone. And you find out it was a Cutter they destroyed. While lifting off with a package from a delivery mission... SC was better for me and many others before they allowed pirates and griefers to do whatever they want without risk. There is no risk for griefers and those who call themselves pirates. I stopped doing cargo runs because I like to play solo. I just do bunkers. It is the least griefed way to make money. If I am bored. I get in my C2 and look for people camping a site. I land. Act like I am getting cargo. Then take off. If they catch me. I got nothing for them lol. SC is not what I bought into . If I could get a refund I would. Anyrate. I appreciate the video.

    Do you think it would be beneficial to have a 15 minute waiting period before you can get another ship to prevent a potential for a never-ending spawn-loop? Say... if you get destroyed by an actual player (this wouldn't count if you were destroyed by an NPC) in a fight, you re-spawn in a medical bay... there's a mandatory evaluation or cooling down period before being cleared for piloting a space-craft? I think it would be lore friendly and a realistic expectation (in controlled space only, btw). However, to be devil's advocate, would it run the risk of limiting players who wanted the never-ending loop?
