The ability to abstract and generalize is extremely valuable! Those individuals that are able to correctly associate things from various disciplines are better at "predicting" the near future and can thus be more successful from a financial perspective!

A refreshing approach. Ranging a variety of paths always enriches one's perspective, experience and ability to adapt to a fast changing world. Among the many examples and stories I find the one of droping the tools and run is a good one to refllect on.

I really enjoyed reading Range by David Epstein after it was recommended to me.
The example that resonated with me was from the story of Johanes Kepler and about 'unleashing analogies'.

@4:45 "though oftentimes better than master of one" is, at earliest documentation, a 20th century addition, whereas “Jack of all trades” is from 14th century and “master of none” originated in 17th century.

The Specialist knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing.
The Generalist knows less and less about more and more until he knows nothing about everything.

Wow so accurate lol. As a generalist, I'm always jealous of my specialist friends and they are often jealous of me because I can't beat anyone of them at what they do and they can't beat me at anything else.

I'm sure you could find many anecdotes that imply the opposite. Seems a little premature to talk about this interesting hypothesis as if it's fact as they do at the end.

The example I will give is Einstein, who was highly (unconventionally) functional in specific areas BUT mostly incompetent at nearlt every area of his life. Extreme genius is seldom cultivated without a cost.
