- Hello Guys and Gals Today I am going to go over the Base Items Paladin Only Shields, to Cover the differences between them, what each of them are good for and why you would choose one over another.

These shields are ridiculous. You can build spirit before everyone else, and the combo of all res on these shields and holy shield makes pallys incredibly durable.
Just to try it out, I have my Offline Level-26 Hammerdin holding a Spirit Crystal Sword and a Spirit Paladin shield … pretty ridiculous 😅
My smite pally loves it. No lie.
I have a paladin at lvl 31 right now using akaran rondache spirit runeword. Love it so far.
Found a 3 socketed grey Zakarum base in Ancient Tunnels today with +39 all resist. I put ancients pledge in it and it has
276 Defense 42% block chance
+50 Enhanced Defense
Cold Resist +82
Lightning Resist +87
Fire Resist +87
Poison Resist +87
10% Damage Taken To Mana
very nice, should do you for quite a while until you upgrade to something even better later down the road
@@GGMentor actually I unsocketed Ancients Pledge and made a Sanctuary. Alot of nice perks on it and 104 all resists and I put it on my level 77 Hammerdin. This is why D2 will always be better than D3 for me. Runewords and crafting give you opportunities to make things you cant find on random drops.

wish all other classes would have unique runewords for their class specific items as well.

I stopped grinding for a while, thanks classes. But I never play seasons so...
But they move seasonal runes to nonseasonal when its over anyway, right?
Also love that D2 nightmare runes that used to be seasonal now aren't.
My normal difficulty Crown Shield - didn't exactly roll anything nifty for me res wise unfortunately but... those nice 4 sockets... :D That used to be seasonal only rune word...
Of course you need a 3 socket for Spirit... and... I made one of those too... but I'd have preferred to use another Crown and got stuck with an inferior non pally shield instead I believe.

Yeah phoenix makes a great paladin shield
i like vortex shield for ubers as smiter....just for the defence.....most damage comes from crushing blow and life tap usually makes up for lower block
Still a noob when it comes to Paladins, although they are fun so far: i have one FoH/Charge guy in non ladder, and a wannabe Vengeanc/Holy Shock Pally in Ladder. Specifically the Latter (pun intended) one is hard to level further in Hell. I was thining about giving him an Exile, and have the runes for it in non ladder, so will make one soon. But what happens if i do make the RW in a non Paladin shield? I thought i could perhaps use it on a non Paladin as well..
Since it has good MF, increased resist and Defiance Aura, it could be useful for other classes too, like Treachery etc. Does it not work in a Monarch? Just asking before i waste my runes 🤣 I know i also need a better weapon asap, but figured the Exile will help a lot with defense and increase my Holy Shock
Awesome video, but quick question. The block chance wouldn't matter with holy shield up right? It gets capped at 75% anyway?
So with holy shield you need less dex to hit 75% which means you can put more into vitality or strength
Those rolls for these shields are rough. Trying to get that near perfect base for exile.
yes a very difficult one to get.
I use a Zak shield for my smiter for the most consistent damage. Block% is maxed out from phase blade Dex and holy shield.
I liked when he did the average of 46+46
Something that's worth mentioning about Smite damage and pally shields - while it's true they all have about the same average damage, they have different ranges. The Zakarum Shield in my opinion is the best shield for a smiter because it has a very consistent damage range whereas most of the other choices have a wider range which makes their damage more unpredictable.

Where good place to find it
Eh, it's not that big of a deal on average. Charged strike javazon deals 1-12000 damage with maxed synergies but the inconsistencies do not stop it from being one of the best skills in the game. You're hitting so many times so quickly that averages matter more than max/min.
Why do people recommend a Vortex Exile for an Uber Smiter instead of the Sacred Targe?
In the old days of e bugging you could get ridiculously high defense using the vortex Shield.
Doesn't work anymore so the only reason now is probably appearance

best place cow for density of mobs and low mf! than again all rng got 45 all res sacred rondache from eldrich :)
Best way to get a dream base is to look for elite shields that are broken, cracked ect. Use the repair recipe that will reroll the resistances.

Then it will lower the Ilvl making it only capable of 3 sockets.
If it rerolls with 45 all res take it to larzuk and it will only be capable of 3 sockets max after the repair recipe lowers the Ilvl.

Ethereal, Sacred Rondache or Sacred Targe.
Vortex has nice defense but it has crappy block chance.

found a heraldic with 9% ed (poitless for a normal shield i know) , and 45 all res. Would this have any value in the trading comunity ? Im running with a 41 targe for myself , and i dont see the point of changing my shield for just 4 all res. Id rather sell them if they sell for anything

I found an Eth Royal shield 45 all res, is it worth to make an Exile with it?
Yes and No, it will have nice high defense and decent block chance but the smite damage will be bad.
If you don't plan to smite it won't matter. If you do plan to smite you may want to find an elite tier base.
Best I've found in my life is a +43 all res sacred rondache, still feels incredibly broken having it

What is the E-Bug?
Is an eth modifier a big deal for Exile? Found Non Eth 4soc 45 all res Kurast Shield and thinking if its worth such expensive runeword.
That is a very nice shield and yes you could make the exile in it.
But Because exile has a repairs durability modifier people will always prefer it in an eth base for more defense.
If you don't mind losing out on the extra defense which can be a lot after holy shield it's a fine base.

Nice I have an eth Kurast shield with decent resistance, I think I’ll use it for exile once I find the runes again. I made a CTA instead. Or HotO.
Today i found a Sup Zakarum Shield 3os +17% damage 22 Attack rating and 15 enhanced defense. Wonder if it is worth anything.
I had one drop while playing a sorc in hell, 43 res on a white base. I was like well im rolling pally.
Hi. Is non eth Vortex Shield 4os with max AR 45 and increased maximum durability 14 worth anything? Or should i keep it?
If it's 45 All Resistances, it would make a good spirit. You can socket it at larzuk

Im on single player have infinite high runes still cant find an elite shield base for a decent exile tho I wanna solo p8 ubers right now im doing p3 with a 9 dmg before holy shield exile....still wrecking it but to reach my goal I need to up that. Where is good place to find sacred rondache
Armor racks are a good place to find shield bases.
Magic find hurts finding white bases, they turn blue.
Best base farming is done with 0% magic find

what mods can you get on pally weapons ?
Enhanced damage, attack rating, durability increase, and specific plus to skills up to 3 with a max level of level +3.
Like blesses hammer, or concentration

What is the highest %max dmg tjey can have? I found kurast shield with 15%enhanced defence and 58% enhamced dmg and 68 attack rating. You tell me it is worth nothing ?

I came here to see how they look in game on character and in char select. why do this video with a mule and not a character that can equip the shields? :/
Unfortunately the appearance doesn't matter much as you will be using holy shield 100% of the time which overrides the appearance.
I think Royal/Vortex look the best though by far
