When I used to train in a commercial gym I had a few clients that had MS that took creatine and thought it really helped them just with general function on a daily basis both mentally and physically. They were active and doing strength routines several days a week but they swore by it. This was back in the early 2000's when creatine was really a hot supplement.
Derek is right about it being difficult to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight every day without using protein powders and without overconsuming calories. You have to either eat a carnivore diet of multiple pounds of meat every day, or else be constantly eating meals that emphasize protein above fat and carbs, like eating lean ground turkey with fat-free yogurt/cheese/dairy. I've tried counting macros and eating 1:1, and it's a relentless chore to figure out how to do it every day. If you eat one meal that is higher in carbs or fats, then it's almost impossible to catch back up by the end of the day without just overconsuming calories.
It's not difficult with high protein dairy like cottage cheese. Also who said that meals should emphasize protein above fat and carbs? Aim to hit protein and calories intake and don't worry too much about carb fat ratio. Not every meal has to have more protein over other macros

Now I know why I felt the worst cramp towards the left of my belly button yesterday after taking a heaping teaspoon of Creatine mixed with beef and whey proteins all at once. The cramp was so strong I could barely walk but it wore off pretty quickly too. You gotta remember to drink a decent amount of water after taking Creatine throughout the day too.
Mix it in juice and drink it throughout the day. There's no reason to take it all at once and it should be taken with something that's will trigger your insulin response because it helps absorb and break down creatine
As a vegan who was trying to work out pretty seriously, creatine changed the game. It was very subtle about it too. It absolutely destroyed my stomach the first couple of times. Like a nuclear bomb. Four or five days into it, I realize I'm not struggling to hit failure anymore. It's like previously there was something internally preventing me from pushing as hard as I can. Creatine reversed that very quickly. It's amazing stuff.
Since Joe Rogan started talking about creatine on his podcast.. the price of Creatine in South Africa has jumped from R70-R80 to R300.00 .. which is absolutely ridiculous

But i did not like how bloated I got and I did not like how it slowed me down. Made me stronger but hurt my overall athleticism bc it hurt my agility. I have heard other people say they had the same problem. Maybe that was just bc it was monohydrate. But now I will only get pre workout that has no creatine in it.

Lately I have been hearing about potential issues with gummie supplements. One doctor said gummie multivitamins are mostly a sugar pill. There are so little nutrients it's a waste of time.
Multivitamins is shit in general. You have to consume vitamins and minerals in their natural compound form. "Multivitamins are like inner pieces of a clock that are put in a package but aren't assembled," is the best metaphor I've heard about multivitamins.
@norkci8090 Hey you may be right. I don't know. But I like the way my pee looks in the toilet when I take GNC mega Mens multivitamins. It practically glows in the dark. Hahahaaa...
That isn’t true. The major let down for multivitamins is the fact that your body can only absorb so much of the water soluble nutrients at one time, and you’ll just pee the rest of it out. Also, a lot of minerals compete for absorption and it is suboptimal to try to supplement for them all at the same time. They’re still great to take. Your claim that you have to consume vitamins and minerals in their “natural compound form,” whatever that is, is just flat out wrong. Different ones will have different rates of bioavailability, but if your multivitamin contains five or so mg of Zinc citrate for instance, your body will absolutely absorb it
I am 52 and have used creatine regularly over 25 years, over the last 2 years I stagger 1-2 grams in every coffee/tea/hot beverage throughout the day to ease the stress on the gut, but I carry a lot of muscle for a guy my age 👍✌️
Let me tell you what HMB in combination is about. I’ve been taking it alongside creatine for 30 years. From what I’ve always been told is the bodybuilder’s will take it when they are cutting as it aids in the prevention of muscle loss. I am in my late40’s and I recently lost 77lbs over the coarse of 14 months and the last 46lbs of that I lost over the span of 10 weeks. My first in-body scan at 247lbs said my lean body mass was at 165lbs(yes a fat bastard) my last in-body scan said I was at 170 lbs with a lean body mass of 164 lbs. I lost no muscle while almost dropping 1/3 of my body weight. That is what HMB combined with creatine does Joe.
I'm a pescaterian. Getting protein without (land) animal meat is easy. Sea food, dairy, and high protein veg such as beans. Then, I also take high protein whey shakes with BCAAs. Creatine intake is about 5g per day, but after listening to this, I may up it to 20g just to see what happens! The only side effect I get with creatine is the need to urinate increases suddenley.
Stay hydrated is my opinion, drink 32-64fl oz water extra on creatine days so long as you don’t have CHF or other conditions where you can become overloaded
High levels of creatinine is often an indicator (in ordinary non-gym types) of poor kidney function. Naturally if you're taking creatine, then you will end up with more of the waste product which is creatinine. There are certain widely-available tests that you can do that bypass this phenomenon - I forget which ones, sorry - that take that out of the equation. As in, it will be a true test of your kidney function without the possibility of artificially-elevated levels of creatinine interfering with the results. So you can always get your true kidney function tested. As the other reply said though, drinking more water is a way of significantly mitigating any negative effects of creatine supplementation.
In my experience i was peeing alot when taking creatine because of all the extra water that i had to drink. So technically my kidneys were working more

@@andrewledbetter4112 It is pretty much the same thing. But the hcl is more bioavailable so you need a bit less for the same effect. So for example a common dose of 5g for the monohydrate is about 3g of the hcl. But because it is has better uptake it does not give us issues who have a more sensitive gut.

Really not that hard. It gets easier when you figure out how to properly eat. Good luck
It's not difficult with high protein dairy like cottage cheese. Also who said that meals should emphasize protein above fat and carbs? Aim to hit protein and calories intake and don't worry too much about carb fat ratio. Not every meal has to have more protein over other macros

As a vegan who was trying to work out pretty seriously, creatine changed the game. It was very subtle about it too. It absolutely destroyed my stomach the first couple of times. Like a nuclear bomb.
Different ones will have different rates of bioavailability, but if your multivitamin contains five or so mg of Zinc citrate for instance, your body will absolutely absorb it
Joe don't wanna give up them gummies 🤣

Any concerns about creatinine and possible kidney issues that may arise from taking too much??

Creatine destroys your liver and kidneys
I don't know if it's true, but I've heard it also causes hair loss.

@@colethomson7267 oh damn I didn't know that
@@colethomson7267 Too many roids?
I might take higher amounts, I haven’t taken it for a few months now and noticed nothing on a standard dose
Its also showing to help dementia people a lot
I wish they would’ve talked about hair loss on creatine! I know Derek has opinions on it
That's why I stopped. I took creatine for years. My hair shredded the entire time on it.
omg, is this a thing?
hair loss keeps me away from creatine..
I’ve stayed away from it for that reason alone: idk if Its even true that it causes hair loss, but I don’t wanna chance it
Does he have a dip in? Why does he sound like that?
Either that or he has an underbite.
Or selegeline
Don’t need to get super fancy with gummies. I take powder from an Amazon seller. It works though, absolutely slept in supplement. Just make sure you drink enough water when taking. You can dehydrate quicker.
Venison and eggs are also good. Ground venison or in cuts. Unless you hunt, you need friends who do. And are generous.
The water weight looks horrendous
What do you mean?
One thing that’s also never talked about is how hard creatine is on your kidneys…if you are a recovering alcoholic or have fatty liver issues or even have non-alcoholic problems with kidney function, creatine ingestion can quite literally kill you, or at least take decades/years off of a life that would otherwise be extended.
My doctor has recommended that I not take it due to possibly damaging my kidneys. While many people seem to think the higher levels of creatinine in the blood creates this false positive, I'm still concerned of kidney damage enough that it doesn't seem to be worth the risk.
Anyone else get insomnia from creatine and lighter sleep? Creatine feels like an antidepressant to me but it destroys my sleep.
Creatine can raise your blood pressure which could affect your sleep, but insomnia is something else entirely though
yes, when I first start taking it I can't take it in the evening otherwise I can't sleep but that's just the first few days also gives me racing thoughts like I'm on a stimulant
Do you drink enough water? Dehydration can make it harder to sleep
