  • This is the story of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. It is the story of how Ronaldo and Brazil got redemption from their awful 1998 Final defeat. It is also the story of the 3 R's Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo. One of the greatest front 3s in football history. It is also the story of some of the worst officiating ever seen throughout a World Cup.
    This is the next video of a series focusing on telling the story of each FIFA World Cup. TheSportsFiles channel is all about telling great sporting narratives. Good video yet again. However I think Germany got way less credit than they deserve. Until the Final, Germany scored 14 goals while Oliver Kahn conceded only once. Their opening game was one of the biggest wins ever in a World Cup when they beat Saudi Arabia 8:0. Oliver Kahn literally carried the team almost alone to the finals.
    Then there's also the story of Turkey. They managed to finally qualify again after 46 years and reached the 3rd place while also scoring the fastest World Cup goal ever.
    What's also worth mentioning is that most major teams didn't make it far: The Dutch didn't qualify, Argentina exited after the group stage, reigning World and Euro Champs France completely embarrassed themselves.

    • @Chadner
      @Chadner Месяц назад +3

      @jandrixcubal8095 Right, the Dutch had an amazing team, but Roy Keane denied them the chance to embarrass themselves yet again in the big stage.
      Germany scored 14 but 8 against Saudi Arabia, so just 6 in the 5 next games, they had a good team but pretty lackluster performances. Ballack was their engine so without him they had no chance in the final.

    • @Chadner
      @Chadner Месяц назад +3

      But I do remember waking up that first morning (12 hour difference games from where I was) and hearing my friend say "Klose already scored 3!!" And my reaction being, who??

    • @jandrixcubal8095
      @jandrixcubal8095 Месяц назад

      @@Chadner The German team really wasn't good. They qualified only through the playoffs and 4 major players were out due to injuries. Nowotny and Wörns were the best defenders, but fell out. Scholl and Deisler were good up front but couldn't participate either. Sure, Klose was a saviour up front and Ballack was a great leader in the field, but they couldn't carry everything.

    The first WC in Asia and the last one won by a non-European side (until 2022 that is). Thanks again for a great memory refresher! It's a pity how obviously bad refereeing stole the show... it was so biased towards S.Korea, who ended up 4th - Turkey destroyed their dreams of a medal in the end.
    A bravura of a legend (O.Kahn) and his practical farewell to the 1st team (he played only one match as a starter in 2006), and a great intro to the Germany's omnipresence in the top 3, peaking in 2014. But that's still far away ;)

    Every time Brazil faced England in a World Cup they became champions.
    Every time Turkey classified to a World Cup they faced the eventual champions twice. Germany in 1954 (a group stage match and a replay to determined which country will go through to quarter finals) and Brazil in 2002 (group stage and semi finals).
