90km per week is out of this world
great video, great high elbow
The great form most likely helps :) She keeps up 100m @1:10 for 10K to finish Sub 2 hours. On a 1500 she splits sub 1:04 to finish comfortably below 16:00.
Wow !!! She’s amazing!!! Thank you Brenton for analysing her stroke . Us mortals can only dream ....
תודה
I think about these things so much more while in the water when I watch your vids, thanks.
Same Tim. As i swim I’m mentally observing my elbows and hands and everything else. These videos provide great instruction.
Thanks for your vids. Beautiful technique. Have taken a couple of tips and reminders from this and other vids and I’m a faster and more efficient swimmer for it, even though I swim with a totally open water swim group.
Thank you. The slow-motion helps a lot!!!
Goods video 👍
A few videos I’ve watched from various channels suggest to begin the pull phase when you’ve finished breathing but she seems to do it before? Still rapid though
wow!
Swimming 90k per week is mad!
Yes those swimmers are in an other planet ,
Does that mean that she spends more than two hours daily swimming? She must be hella strong
@@mikhailo.6768 90/7 = avg 12.85 km/ day. Her speed for 10 km at the Rio Olympics was 1:56:32.10. So, she's definitely spending more than two hours a day swimming. Swimming two hours is not so hard, but swimming at the speed she swims at - that's a different story.
@@marcdefaoite its really impressive, distance swimmers are indeed a different story.
Wow interesting kicking style.
I like open water swimming too. If the ocean is deep enough, I can cover 90KM in one session too, I have the sink like a brick technique
Thats called "Sharkbait technique" 😂
Can you address proper finger spread for freestyle? And odd number breathing like hers? Also interested in hearing about open turns versus flip turns for those of us with poor vision.
Trying to get my nephew to use correct elbow technique, complains of shoulder pain. This Vid should help. Any help is appreciated, Thank You Tubers.
We did a video a few weeks about shoulder pain

Hey, question, if one does have a crossover kick, should the kicking training be normal (no crossover), or are there any drills to facilitate crossover to make this kick "stronger"?
i guess I'm kind of off topic but do anyone know of a good website to watch newly released series online?
@Kelvin Caden Flixportal =)
@Fox Brayden Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) Appreciate it !
@Kelvin Caden no problem =)
She has a unique (weird) kick
I’m going for swimming in about 2 hrs. I’ll try this today. My arm is straight when I pull back and I tend to forget to position it like a handle.
Missed this one. I have never seen this cross over kick. Really strange thing to me. Kind of looks like a half kick rather than a full power kick, which is the one that links to the arm pull.
Is she perhaps hitting the water with her elbow first because she is an open water swimmer usually swimming against waves where lifting your arm out of the water and fighting waves is a technique in itself?
I think Brenton is right, whatever the reason is. Even in open water hitting the water elbow first is something inefficiënt. Het right arm has the right technique so left is a little bit out of balance.
I finally found an Olympian who swims like I do. Do you think that I can reach top level with a similar style, but in pool swimming? (50m, 100m freestyle). I'm currently 21 and swimming a 55s,100m LCM.
I've swimming with extreme high elbow catch, should I change out of it?
Great swimmer obviously and nice video 👍. Interesting to see she is barely swimming front quadrant. Totally opposite to her fellow country-man who won gold in the Rio 10k men’s race, he was almost doing a catch up drill for the whole race. I think the point is everyone needs to find a style that suits them 👍
Interesting observation, actually. I remember watching a short version of the men 10k swimming race and thought the same about the winner. I agree that on a elite level everybody needs to find a style that suits them even its a bit out of the box.
@@Thomas-qv3cr A lot of that stroke difference comes from the kick efficiency. If your kick is strong, you are going to be able to hold front quadrant more easily.
Hi there, I have a problem that whenever I turn to breathe, my kick at least doubles in speed. As a result, it exhausts me to the point where I can barely swim 25m because I can't seem to get enough oxygen and my heart rate goes through the roof.
I've been drilling my kick and finally, my legs don't sink, which I thought was the initial reason to exhaust myself to the point of hell. I've been trying to fix this with fins and it seems to help, yet, when I take the fins off, it's back to this weird pattern.
I picked up swimming during the covid and started in September, so - around 6 weeks now so I assume, I still need to build lung capacity.
Do you have any tips regarding this?
90K a week!!! 🤯
No one’s looking at the crossover kick!
킥 독특하게 차넹
Could you go into detail or do a show on the Crossover Kick? I'm just getting into Triathlon and my swim has progressed from 2:20/100 to 1:40/100. But my biggest hurdle right now is over kicking, which increases my heart rate, breathing, and causes me to pause after 25m/50m to rest for a min. Since you mentioned the Crossover kick is used for distance swimming, I believe this could really help me from over kicking.
I overcame the tired feeling from over-kicking by syncing my stroke with my kick. I practiced it with a 2 beat kick very slowly. I wasn't very efficient at first but improving every week now.
Start by pushing off the wall and doing left side stroke with a left side kick and glide with the right arm leading. Then go back to the wall to do the right side. Then when you are comfortable with that, combine 1 left then 1 right stroke with kicks synced. It's a progression. Just keep that form and control your kick. What I found is that my feet stay at the surface much easier and my HR is lower. I am working it up to a 4 beat kick now. Good luck!
@@runningbuddy946 Thanks for that tip. I'm heading to the pool today or tomorrow and I can give that a try. I'll be a happy guy when I can just swim continuously without stopping (except to turn around in a lane).
@@Alby_VA just don't use your watch. Swim for the sake of proper form and coordination while trying to get used to this style. It took a few weeks for me to learn before I was able to swim faster.
My toes occasionally brush and I feel like someone is behind me, so maybe I am crossing over? But I learned to swim on RUclips so I guess I’m alright, shooting for calories burned not time.
@@runningbuddy946 I was also overkicking. I've found a 2-beat kick very effective for Triathlon. My speed remains almost the same as 4-beat or 6-beat kick, but with less effort and lower HR!
Great video, I’ve a few interviews and videos of Sharon racing in my channel you should check out sometime. Keep up the great work.
The pool must be very hot right now 🔥🔥🔥
That pool is now a spa.
Looks like she's cha-cha dancing in the water.
Yes, great glutes!
