Fun history fact: The Taiho was hit by an American submariner's torpedo (1 out of the 6 it launched hit). The attack did virtually no damage to the ship. However it cracked a fuel tank designated for fighters. A few hours later she blew up.
***** No, this was during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. She was sunk by USS Albacore. You're likely thinking of how Shinano was sunk by the submarine USS Archerfish (with 4 torpedoes).
I don't think they realise the heavy casualties taken by torpedo bombers against AA fire. There's a reason later in the war Dive-Bombers became more used. Sure you have a torpedo that's going to do a lot of damage,(Bombs don't do enough presently) but in real-life you'd be lucky to survive the attack run. And here is an advantage to the Japanese Carriers, longer running torps, your planes aren't under fire as long.
It would be great to have the choice to change the loadout on your air groups before each match without (instead of) having it be a module purchase requirement. How nice to say "I'll be in attack mode this match" and not be stuck with it in the future without paying to make a change.
AeroSpaceNews.com Oh yeah! it'd also be cool if there's a similar option that can be done in WoT as well. Like the pz4h for example; you can decide whether you'd go for the standard l/43 for orthodox med gameplay, or the 105mm if there are are a lot of low tier enemies - right before the match! OAO
Matthew Moen But only after the initial purchase, right? You can't change from the default configuration unless you first purchase the other air wing package module. Or am I missing something?
That's what I thought. I'd tried to explain the without purchase thing in my OP - just seems kinda uncool to have to pay for it as it is not an upgrade - just a different mission configuration.
you forgot to mention the part about how mm screws you a lot as a carrier captain. Enemy carrier has a tier up on you and has fighters? well you're screwed. They have a tier 6 and a tier 5 against your tier 5 and a 4? you're screwed.
The old carriers were so much better than the new ones. I dont think anyone likes the change. Please revert the carriers to their original tactical and interesting gameplay.
"United States and Japan" were the first to realize the power of carrier aviation? It was actually Britain. Jackie Fisher had HMS Glorious (I might be wrong on the name) converted to a fighter carrier before any of the carriers in the game were commissioned. And the US didn't realize it until after Pearl Harbor...
GintaPPE1000 Well, the Japanese see the true potential of naval aviation when their world first light carrier Hosho commissioned (built by the British as well), in early Pacific War, Kido Butai (1st Carrier Fleet) considered the world most powerful carrier fleet with 6 large carriers and 4 light carriers with over 400 aircrafts, 1500 veterans and experiences pilots, they utilizing their fast fighter, TBs and DBs and successfully decimated entire British Eastern Fleets (somewhat half of the Royal Navy power) and some Dutch Colonies Navy as well, they're unstoppable, sad to see how Royal Navy has grown weak at end of WW1 and begining of WW2. Prime minister Winston Churchill have to announced that Japanese and their air superiorty and powerful warplanes dominated the sky of Pacific, marking the end of Royal Navy power.
(I realize this is a REALLY late response, but work with me here lol) "And the US didn't realize it until after Pearl Harbor..." That's not entirely true. While the US was still building a few Battleships, They had started putting a lot more effort into Carrier design than Battleship design. That's why the 5th Iowa class wasn't finished and the 6th Iowa class and Montana Class were never built. Hell, the only reason the Iowas were built was because the US felt they needed a response to the Yamato and Musashi, as well as a powerful platform for Anti-Air support for Carriers. That's why the Iowas ended up being the fastest Battleships ever made. To keep up with and effectively support the Carriers. on top of that, the US had plenty of carriers at the start of world war 2. On December 7th 1941, the U.S. Navy had seven aircraft carriers and one aircraft escort vessel in commission. In addition to these eight ships, the keels of five other CVs had been laid.
Dive bombers need AP bombs with the ability to due citadel hits as an option. They carried them in real life. Also its long past time to restore carrier divisions.
Since a number of interceptor/fighter aircraft were capable of carrying rockets and bombs in WWII why cant we modify the individual fighter aircraft? It would be quite nice to have some versatility with the fighter aircraft though.
The thing is: Wargaming has a really nice idea to make Profit in WoWs without Premium Ammo. The Bismark will, like the Warspite, be a Premium. The ship class however, will be added to the game as normal Ship. I guess they will name it after it's sister ship.

It was the Royal Navy been the first ones with carriers and the first ones to effectively use them at Taranto (what peal harbor was based off)... Oh thats right, WoWS seems to think even the Russian navy was more important then the Royal Navy...
Nope in my opinion since CVs are meant to deal damage and now they are not a great option as it depends on opponents tier or they made the AA in high tier God level
Please make sure your matchmaker doesnt fuck up as often (matching 2vs1 CV or 0vs1 or even 1vs1 with tier differences!!!) BEFORE enabling even more derps to play these kind of ships!?

Some ocean so your carrier isn't trapped like a rat would be nice. Nobody protects carriers, so a few bot escorts would be great too. Or make them more points so they are worth protecting. Totally predictable spawn points, no time to maneuver, nowhere to run, and no help from the team during the enemy's air attacks makes the match maker's role decisive in who wins the carrier duel. Later as your "team" is busy far away a DD or CA will eventually find you and blow you away provided you survive the initial air attack(s). But who cares if you survive? I prefer to be destroyed since the stupid victory conditions end the game just as it get interesting. I can't count the number of times I am really having a blast and then victory or defeat ends it suddenly. I'd rather get blown away so I can take another ship out and try to have as much fun with it as the major limitations of the game allow. I couldn't care less about the idiotic victory conditions. Domination? Stupid. Besides making zero sense and lacking imagination, the victory conditions and timer assure that you don't have time to maneuver any ships, carriers or otherwise. WoWS could be a good game, but from what I have seen from wargaming, they couldn't give a crap about improving their products.
