This was such a well produced and remarkably thorough review. Bravo. This must have a been quite an undertaking.
Thank you so much for the support, yeah it was an intense one hahaha
Love your work by the way. You guys are awesome!!
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my password. I love any tips you can offer me

@Brodie Gus I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Brodie Gus It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
You’re setting the curve for reviews.
Thanks Anon. Happy you like it
9:36 Cable quality does not affect latency! Signals travel through the cable at 60-85% light-speed, the difference in speeds the signal travels for a crappy cable and a high quality cable are negligible. I did the math, and for a 1 meter cable, the difference in speed between 0.6C and 0.85C is 1.64 nanoseconds, that's 0.000001635 ms. Immeasurable for this purpose. Also, both HDMI and SDI are simple serials streams, they don't retransmit lost packets like Ethernet, which is the only way a bad cable could actually affect the latency.
Yeah but there are many situations where running that much cable is not possible and you need wireless
You thoroughness is greatly appreciated.
Excellent Review. Thank you for your hard work.
Much appreciated!
I appreciate the amount of work you put into your reviews, awesome!
A thorough analysis in an amazing way to explain the minute details! Thanks man. U’re the best👍
I appreciate that!
The amount of work and dedication that you put in every video is insane !
You deserve waaaaaaay more subscribers.
Thank you for this awesome content.
Thank you so much 😀let's spread the word and hopefully the channel will grow :)
This channel is pure gold!
This is the most informative, educational and polished review of anything I've ever watched.
So many other videos have higher counts but none of them come close to the information and accuracy here. Glad I found this. Thank you for making this video. Stay safe.
Glad it was helpful! Welcome aboard :)
Hands down one of most well made reviews I have ever watched.
Thank you so much for the kind words! And thanks for watching
Good evening sheriff, at every episode I am impressed by the technical and scientific level as soon as you release us. I'll end up telling me you're more a physicist than DOP 😀! Good job for this crazy work and the precision of explanations about latency! Your work is a source of inspiration for all of us! Thanks
THANK YOU so much Laurent for your really kind words of support. Very happy you liked it
Such a well produced and explained review!
One of the most accurate & best GEAR channels out there. 10/10
Really appreciate your support
Very good review. Thanks for amazing tutorials.

Excellent work and great review. Keep posting with such elegant and pro content.
Thanks a ton!
Remarkable review, keep those videos coming this is fantastic and so will Editor. Your efforts go noticed
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching
Excellent review - Thanks
Wow, fantastic review!
Thanks. Happy you liked it
Keep in mind that the only cables that have an impact on latency are HDMI cables with active converters - like those that convert the data stream to fibre for a longer distance, then back to HDMI. Ordinary cables exhibit NO latency. Any processing that needs buffers, creates latency. Don;t forget that plenty of cameras and monitors are quite happy with SDI being split with a passive T-BNC. It messes up the impedance, but my monitors are very happy with the mismatch and there is no added latency as no electronics!
Very good review, thanks!
Very well detailed review of both products, keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻
I just bought three of these devices. Can't wait to receive them!
They're pretty good. Very happy using them so far
This review was next level. Thanks so much for the info!
Thanks Jordan, happy you liked it, thanks for watching
Best review I've ever watched! keep up the great work.
Wow, thanks!
Thanks. Just purchased
Great review. 👍🏾👍🏾
Excellent demonstration. Clear examples of very misunderstood causes and the measuring of latency. It would be great to see this demonstration using Vaxis or Teradek "0 latency" transmitters with production camera's like Arri and Red.
thanks for one more of your great told and teached videos about camera gear! really enjoy to watch a video with a lot of pros and cons and what to keep in mind when considering to buy a new tool. also your style of talking is nice to listen to. great channel! and I stumbled about your channel a lot of times in the last weeks. subscribed. have a good one and thanks for your work
Thank you so much for such kind words and compliments. Your feedback is for sure a great motivation for me to keep on doing what I’m doing. Welcome aboard
I knew you since your last video Apple Log vs HEVC
As I was searching for wireless video transmission, I suddenly got your video as next suggestion for one of those appeared within the first results!!
Your video from three years ago was the most useful one as well as enjoyable!
I’m wondering why RUclips didn’t list it within the first results ?!
Thanks a lot man. You are providing a real decent content for filmmakers. It’s actually more way better than some famous channels that depending on propaganda !
Thank you so much for the kind words, really appreciate that you like my content. And yes I agree there’s a lot of hype out there. RUclips surely needs some extra honesty. Thanks again for watching
@@THEDPJOURNEY Thanks again. I’m also wondering how you have been all these years and I didn’t come across any of your amazing content. From years ago and you are providing a totally different and game changing reviews experience. I believe you may consider marketing for your self as your content is really worthy.
@AnasAqabawy thanks again for your comment. I guess the algorithm never promoted me since I don’t post a lot because of my job as a full time DP
But again, thanks to awesome people such as yourself, I will have a voice louder than algorithms
In depth review 👍
Hope you enjoyed it!
Very educational, thank you!
Well crafted technical review. saw the strength and weak for 2 model generation.
Very good review. Thx.
Very welcome
Thank you. Goog information on how to understand latency
Really nice review... Keep up I want to see more of this awesome work 👌
More to come! Thanks for watching
I love my 400S but you are so right, the upgrade in signal strength from 400s to 400s pro isn't that big and overall its not that much different other then the horizontal design. But honestly this could have been a huge upgrade if they included loop through on this device to really make it a step up from the 400s. Which is funny because in my setups I personally prefer the vertical setup vs the horizontal. Also not a huge fan of the new C1 but hopefully they include loop through in their next unit! Love your videos, I learned a lot from this one. Thank you.
Excellent video. So helpful, thank you!
My absolute pleasure
As always, an excellent, well produced, widely informative video. Bravo!.
Thanks for watching 👍 glad you liked it
@@THEDPJOURNEY Certainly!. When I need a detailed, well made review The DP Journey channel, is a must!.
Bravo for the latency test my friend.. I saw so many test and every one didn't take into consideration that straight out of the camera you already have latency witch is an fair to sum it up on the rx tx system
Thanks for the support. Yeah I felt that all those tests on RUclips are very inaccurate for so many reasons. Glad that helps
Brilliant review. I picked this up recently second hand in basically new condition so I found this very informative. I had no idea it had wifi LOL, I just bought it for the HDMI but I think the wifi is great. I'll be using the output to record in small freelance live-streaming context so it's good to know about those quality settings.
Very good explanation
Cheers, thanks for watching
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
always informative
Thanks buddy. Happy to see you here
This is by far the best review for this device and I am sure for any other transmitters. Better than potato and undone.
Really appreciate your kind words. Glad you liked it
Great info
I love your videos! ..and editing style. it's unique
Thank you so much!!
Amazing video.
Cheers thanks
Great content. Thank you

Best review... and I have looked at a looooooot. Thx
Another great review! I already have the previous 400S model, but watched your review as I knew it would be informative. Your reviews are always informative, and have excellent motion graphics. Great work!
Thank you so much Dave for your support
Let´s go! thx for the great product review
Cheers thanks
Great!! Thanks !

Great comprehensive review. Thank you! Question/thought. I'm currently using a $14 5V powered, OREI HDMI splitter to send my camera signal to both an Atomos recorder, and a large TV in video village. I power the splitter via a 5V USB out from the V-mount on my rig. The splitter introduces very low latency, and the signal gets to both the Atomos and the TV at the same time. So my question is, if I swapped out the TV for a MARS 400S Pro system, would the 1st AC have low enough latency to pull focus effectively?
Awesome video
Thanks 🙏
Best review
Wow just when you think there’s nothing else to learn in the filming industry. This is without a doubt my favorite video! Now I know how to pick a wireless video device thanks to you great job great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
A couple of weeks ago we live streamed a concert on RUclips using three wireless devices from holly land on two camera’s.
While setting up we tested the transmitters on set, walking as far as 20 meters from the recoveries and everything was working just fine. 5 minutes in to the show two transmitors started glitching and the video output was not useful!
Fortunately we had more cameras set up so this only was a minor issue as we could keep the live stream with 4 more cameras but this was very unfortunate that it happened after running all test.
We concluded that in a fully crowded venue with people standing this device might cut off.
One transmitor that was on stage keept working the whole show as it was above crowd.
Loved the video! Keep it coming ;)
Thank you sir
Thank you for sharing this! I wonder about holyland transmitter... since it's not easy to test and find in my country! Love how neat you edit the video with the animation! Keep it up DP Journey! Love from Bali!
Thanks for watching, and for the kind words. I love Bali! I wish I visit it one day.
@@THEDPJOURNEY do let me know if you visit Bali! I'll bring you around!

Absolutely brilliant... Liked and subscribed!!! Oh.. and I purchased one
Dude Nice review, Cant believe i watched the whole video, close to 20 minutes, but it was worthy
Really happy to hear that! Thank you so much for your support. 👍👍🙏
AMAZING PRESENTATION A+++++++ Please make videos teaching us how to produce like this you're incredible
Thank you so much for the kind words, I already have a link in the description that explains how I animate my videos
Thanks again
muito boa análise.
16:19 - Or use a signal hop by using a second or third RX/TX system.
Best Review i have ever came across....
I have bought 4 of Mars 400s hiw ever if i use 1 or 2 at the same time is fine, when i switch on the 3rd 1 all of them loose signal. I tried to scan clean channels but still only or 2 can work at the same time.... can u maybe know what causes that?
Just picked one of these up for my rig. However, I didn't consider using it for a video village or client setup. I just wanted to pull focus. The Lack of loop through may become an issue though.
Very cool review, subbed on all my channels.
Two little things tho:
Speaking about common mistakes, it seems that you were testing latency in 60fps mode, altho some Sony cameras seem to be able to output 60fps hdmi in 24fps mode, most shooting scenarios will leave you with a 1080p24/30 feed over hdmi. From what I've seen, this adds a considerable amount of latency to those hollyland transmitters and it would be worth comparing.
The other one is the video quality in different modes, any codec no matter how crappy it is will end up looking pretty decent in a matter of seconds on a perfectly still shot without that many details, it's be good to benchmark it with a scene with movement or a tree and its leaves in the wind for example.
You shouldn't test image quality comparisons with static images where nothing is changing. Of course you won't get enough differentiation between frames for video compression to become an issue.
Nice video 👍
the best review ever! You rocks man :) l
Great work! Can an extra receiver be added for another camera?
Location tests are also tricky because the test day will have different variables than the actual shoot day.
Yup… that’s why unless it’s in a studio or a location where setup is fixed, you’d be able to get a better result
Hi there! buy the Mars 400s pro kit with a second receiver and although it connects the signal it does not send video. did it happen to someone? any solution? Thank you very much for the video!
Very timely, I was just using my Ninja V with the old Hollyland 400S. For some reason using the SDI out from the Ninja V seems pretty low quality when received to my wireless monitor.
Thanks for the video, any chance you did a comparison on how the time in latency differs when you are on the different scene modes? also which scene mode were you on when you did the latency test in this video?
This is an insanely quality video, thank you for making it. :) +1 sub.
Much appreciated! Welcome aboard
Great info man. Thanks for sharing. I tried your method in testing the s1H latency. It was mentioned if you turn audio off over hdmi it lessens the latency. And it does by around 4 ms. Which isn’t huge but maybe it works with other cameras as well and something to consider for people. Also, any plans to get your hands on a Komodo and test it out? Looking to get a new a cam in 2022 and doing some research ha. Just curious.
Mistake: the camera's LCD is not zero latency. It still must transform the camera's sensor output (via the camera's processor) into a video signal to send to the LCD. Thus, your "camera latency" probably does not exist. Think about it this way: the rolling shutter on the A7S III takes 9ms to scan the sensor at 25fps. That leaves 71ms before being output to the camera's LCD. The image needs to be processed (debayered and apply any adjustments). This is difficult to measure, but we can be sure that it is very fast. Next in the chain is the transform, likely to an HDMI signal, which is then sent by the LCD and displayed, probably similar to the SmallHD external display , around 40 ms. Thus the camera latency is overstated
great video but i have got question even before the nerd alert part,
7:26 talking about the latency why do I need to connect my camera to a monitor first then to the TX? Am i not supposed to connect my camera to the TX first, and then from RX to any monitor?
Yeah that I said in that part, no?
What's the ratio of this transmitter to reciever or its just 1:1 do we have option for 1 transmitter to like 4 cameras
1 TX to 4 devices
hi. i want to know that if we shoot 4k viddeo then still show me preview in 1080p or not preview any 4k or 1080p
Preview transmission is always 1080
At 10:31, I wonder if you introduced a little bit of apparent latency, lets call it, by filming at 1/50, the iphones have a refresh rate of 60hz, so maybe try again at 1/60? Plus, I see the atomos is at 23.98, is the camera filming at 25? Just some thoughts...
awesome
Cheers
It seems that using a smarphone might give a much lower latency but also color reproduction. Usually the screens in modern flagship smartphones are really good, with very high resolution and great gamut.
Excellent video! Any thoughts on the dji raveneye?
It's good actually... I mean it's good for what it needs to do, hooked on the gimbal. Havent really considered it in a more pro setup
Very informative video. I have a question though, does it switch signal from hdmi to sdi? I mean, can you connect an HDMI camera on the transmitter and receive an SDI signal on the receiver?
Yes of course
Hi thank You for video - i have qestion: has receiver also option to transmit preview Signal on wifi? Because i saw that it also has wifi password on list option
Your reviews are awesome!! One question though, is it possible to output SDI and HDMI at the same time?? I can't find information about that anywhere, thanks!
Yes you can. Thanks for the compliments 👍
is the battery power percentage visible on the apps monitor? can the antenna be replaced with longer range and quaruple/additional antenna? since there are no loop through, can a fallow focus be attached to the android apps without heavy affecting latency?
Question I have is can the receiver be used on its own going out from an SDI monitor and into the Hollyland receiver and have the signal sent to a iPad via the app? Also do you know can a Quad Splitter be used to connect more than one monitor?
Great material, thx! 😊
Btw, how do you get the signal to smartphone or tablet? Is there a special app fo iOS/Android?
Yes they have an app that connects via WiFi
I've used an HDMI splitter for the no loop-through issue. Camera > Splitter> Transmitter & camera monitor. This did not introduce any additional latency for me at least
Yeah that’s a solution of course.
Matt which splitter do you use and is it still working?
@@scottpaulk I can check when I’m home from work and reply back here :)
at what frame rate did you do your tests at note that measuring delay at 24fps will give you results +/- 42ms
Good video, good explanation of the latency! But, the same problem with every other RUclips review... You only test HDMI output. I cannot find one freaking video who tests the SDI latency....
I was about to order but due to no loop connections and not sure about cross connections between HDMI to SDI
Yeah it sucks in that sense
